2007 custom job with maple board... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warwick-Custom-Shop-Fortress-Bass/182743698677

Sometimes you have to get rid of one you don't want to - along the lines of "oh well, life happens...". So, with some regret, putting my Yamaha RBX1000 up for sale - bought from Bagsieblue only recently (http://basschat.co.u...-years-ago-sold). In superb condition and sounds awesome. It's got to be either this or my Bass Collection but with all the mods made to that I'd never get the money back. So - 1980s Yamaha RBX1000 top of the line Japanese model. A few bangs and scrapes - bit of buckle rash on the back but otherwise in absolutely great shape for its... Nut: 40mm. Bridge spacing: 19mm. My kids are younger than this bass... but the bass sounds better (and gives me less hassle). Pick up from Frome in Somerset. Shipping would be £20. I also have a Hiscox Liteflight case going spare for £50 for added protection, otherwise it'll come well packaged in a brown cardboard box. The piccies:
Would have loved this, but am I right in thinking that it looked like there was a crack between the E & A tuners?
It's on the line of the neck laminates - but certainly does look like it's slightly opened up... eek. If I'd won the auction it would be something I'd be looking at very carefully when the bass arrived. If it is splitting open, presumably glue and clamp would solve the problem adequately?

Was watching this and thought about bidding... and then totally forgot all about it. Went for a decent price. Like TheGreek I was a little hesitant about it coming from Portugal.

1st ever produced fretless fingerboard guitar
anzoid replied to edstraker123's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Somewhat optimistic on the price... Produced in 2008 which seems a bit late for a first... though I wonder what the heck Jaco was playing back in the 80s. -
MXR M81 Bass Preamp From the Jim Dunlop website: "The Bass Preamp features separate Input and Output level controls and a 3-band EQ section with sweepable midrange-from 250hz to 1khz-for extensive tonal flexibility. It's all delivered super clean with high headroom thanks to our own Constant Headroom Technology™, and you can use the PRE/POST EQ switch to set whether or not your Direct Out signal is affected by the Bass Preamp's EQ section. And of course, the Bass Preamp features a GROUND LIFT switch in case you encounter ground loop hum." In excellent condition, (only change is that it has velcro pads rather than the original rubber feet) comes in its original box and will be sent 1st class signed for. No trades. I've now get TheGreek's grey/purple fretted (but with new strings ) and it's had new pickups and a loom from KiOgon and it is my favourite bass ever - the first one I pick up and the one I look forward to playing. And, alcytes, if you want to sell your SB301, please give me a shout!!

Going at what looks ot be a reasonable price with hard case: https://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-item/1585488/yamaha-rbx-6jm-john-myung-signature-6-string-bass Only warning - the one time I bought a bass from these guys (though not this particular shop) online the packaging was absolutely awful, suprised the bass survived... and yeah, have the feeling they could even mess up a hard case.

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
anzoid replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
This is the only fretless that I've actually gelled with and I think I paid just over £100 for it. It would be stupid to sell it, kick myself in a few weeks and look to find another. I did this with a MM Stingray - first one was great, second one was mediocre - still looking for a mid 80s with quilted neck at a reasonable price. As Roger Daltrey said..."I won't get fooled again.."
Yeah, guess I'm just going to have to wait, keep my eyes open and hope. If you ever do go completely mad and decide to sell... you know where to find me -
For the Bass Collections lovers (you know who you are): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Collection-SB-460-by-SGC-NANYO-Excellent-Condition-smooth-bass-playing/222618842870 Quite tempted by this one but have no spare cash... Condition looks pretty good apart from some pitting on the tuners.

Don't know if the starting price is good or not, but I believe there's some love for these around here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-80s-Ibanez-Musician-MC924-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Made-in-JAPAN/232456177098

Now feeling torn - took the SR700 for its first outing today and was, to be honest, a little disappointed with it at gig volume... though this could be just because I didn't get the tone dialled in right on the first attempt and I'm not used to active basses as haven't played one for a while. The neck was also felt a bit sticky... or that was just me... Will try it again next week and see if I can get more time to fiddle with the sound. I use a wireless setup and from a distance it sounded reasonably good (mids were a bit forward) but standing next to my rig it just seemed a bit wooly. However, weight and general feel was lovely and digging in everything felt solid and well put together. Still GASing for the SR750 - the licensed Nordys are calling out to me... Though a couple of places they're marked as "Discontinued"?!? Is that for real? Unless I can pick up a 300e secondhand I don't think I'll be getting one anytime soon - but not seen many come up secondhand... as mentioned, don't need want to get a haircut when I'm not 100% sure it's something I'd hold onto long(ish)-term.

Bought a Gotoh style tuner from Graham - in great condition, exactly what was needed and delivered well packaged. Thank you!

Tidy looking Peavey Foundation fretless - though not clear whether it's factory fretless or a de-fret. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peavey-Foundation-Fretless-Bass-1980s-Made-in-USA-Super-Ferrite-Pickups/302420992960
Hi anzoid. I have a SR750 and they are indeed licensed Nordstrand pickups but it is a cracking piece of kit. The eq is really good on these especially with the active passive option. The only thing I would say about it is that due to the natural wood finish, the body is very easily dinged. Or mojoed if you like!
Thanks jezzaboy - think I need to save up for one these... I'm pretty careful with my stuff so hopefully I won't create an early relic if I do buy one

I'm intrigued as to why MK1 Barts have such a bad reputation - this isn't the first place I've seen people say that they're not much good. In my SR700 they seem OK - I admit I've not spent much time with the bass yet, but initial impressions through a GK MB500 into two Mark Bass 12s were good. Does anybody know anybody who has swapped out the Barts for Nordy big singles? I'm tempted to do so if [a] I manage to sell my Yamaha and the general concensus is that it's worth the effort - I'm never likely to have SR Premium type money and I'm not a huge fan of the current bunch of finishes. And yeah, like Pinball, really enjoying a decent Ibby thread. My first one was an SR300 in pewter that I foolishly moved on (it didn't sound good through an Orange 50W combo...). Would love to try an SR300e at some point.

Yam BB1100s fretless - is £425 a good price?
anzoid replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Also on eBay with a start price of £350 - so if you're interested maybe an offer would work... Searching for "Yamaha BB1100s fretless" shows that a "Buy it now" one went for under £325 at the beginning of June - the £325 is crossed out which I think indicates that a lower offer was accepted. It was collection only though which tends to knock a few quid off. My experience with fretless basses is you get less for 'em because it's a smaller market - so an offer right at the beginning of the listing (Gumtree and eBay) might be quite welcome from the seller - I know when I've sold frelesses I've always wondered whether they would sell -
Look forward to hearing a bit more about how you are finding it in comparison to the P-Bass. I've never owned a P-Bass but been recently told that if I want a particular tone I'm hankering for, that the P is the only way to go!
Currently on holiday so the bass is quite a long way away... and I've not had too much time to play it because of getting ready for said holiday, but... it's about as far from a P-bass as you can get in terms of feel - neck is very slim front to back, it's 38mm at the nut though the spacing at the bridge is 19mm - just like your average Fender. The neck on the SR700 is bubinga and jatoba (not sure in what proportions) and feels smooth but is open pore(ish) compared to the satin finish that my P-bass had. Body is very small and contoured, less slab like, but I never had a problem with the P-bass feel. With the neck pickup soloed and the treble rolled off and the bass boosted slightly you can get a definite P-bass type thump - the Bartolini MK1s are (as far as I can tell from the reading I've done) split coil pickups. But it still isn't 100% P-bass sounding, perhaps a bit too hi-def, a bit too shiny and modern. Having said that, the reason I got rid of my P-bass after multiple pickup swaps was because it didn't have the sound I want... So, I guess, if you want the P-bass sound, you're going to need a real P-bass at some point. The styles of music I play don't tend to call for a specific sound so I can get away with playingwhat I want. If I had to compare the SR700 to anything Fender, I'd say it leaned more towards scooped Jazz bass. The SR700 was a bit of a "see it at a good price, go for it" choice, but I think it may stick around for a while at least. I would, in theory, like to have an SR750 with the P/J Nordstrands (though I believe they're licensed rather than real Nordys??), but I'm also not so keen on the wooden bodies of the higher end SR range - I like a poly finish, and actually prefer solid colours though the amber SR700 is very nice "in the flesh". I should do an NBD rather than hi-jack this one... but here's a couple of photos anyway

Just got an SR700 in amber, 2014 model with the mid-switch. Saw it secondhand on Anderton's website yesterday, and it happily coincided with the sale of my Fender P-bass. Still in the "getting to know you" phase and not taken any photos as yet - but liking it very much so far.

Leduc U-Bass fretless 4 strings brand new, now sold !
anzoid replied to Hellzero's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
We used the Peugeot garage for all our car work - we had an old Peugeot 309 and they did all of its servicing, helped us get through the Controle Technique and were generally really wonderful to us - your uncle may (or may not) remember us as the English couple with a small child who spoke very little French when we first arrived in the town. They taught me a lot of useful car related language and never laughed when I tried to explain things. It is possible we have met - I did go in one time for a guitar repair - took in the Les Paul mentioned above. It had been leant up against a wall (yeah, dumb) and my wife knocked it over and the headstock snapped clean off. I took it to the shop in Etalle to see if a repair was viable because I loved that guitar, cheap as it was (I knew nothing about guitars then). The person I spoke to in the shop was very kind but said there was no hope - this was the day I learned about MDF guitars They did sell me a very nice Yamaha though at a very good price. And yes, St Mard was very quiet - our idea of a fun packed day out was to go over to Cora at Messancy for a McDonalds Our eldest son's first McDonalds experience was there when he was under a year old - we'd eat and he'd play with the paper bag. We had a number of happy meal toys from there that kept him occupied for ages. He's now 17 and still loves McDonalds The Orval I certainly miss, but not sure we ever came across pâté gaumais - somehow managed to miss that one. -
Leduc U-Bass fretless 4 strings brand new, now sold !
anzoid replied to Hellzero's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I only lived in Virton/St Mard (Rue Edmont Jacques) for about 18 months - Feb 2001 to September 2002, we lived right near to the little Protestant church by the river. I used to go up to Etalle as often as I could as there was a wonderful music shop there - bought a lovely Yamaha Pacifica guitar there after my cheapy Les Paul copy broke - headstock snapped off when it fell over and discovered it was, basically, made of MDF!! From there we moved to Bastogne where we lived until July 2013 when we came back to the UK. -

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
I also have a fretless...
I'm guessing you're not selling though? Maybe you could put a picture up, just as a tease (unless I missed it elsewhere in the thread, which is a possibility) The only thing that would put me off getting another Bass Collection would be that I don't want the current one to feel unloved... it's just about perfection. I've done the "I'll never sell this bass..." thing before, but this one might actually stick around. (You can quote that back to me in 12 months' time...) -

Thought I might as well add my Bass Collection SB100 to the thread. Purchased from TheGreek and I've mucked around with it a bit. I got a loom from KiOgon because I wanted to go passive with it, so it's now sporting a PJ set of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders. The loom is VVTT (or VTVT depending on how you look at it). There's a new Schaller 2000 bridge waiting to go on which will be good for the string spacing over the bridge pickup which is a bit off at the moment. I've kept all the original parts, just in case. This thing is an absolute monster and I love it to bits - only been out twice but enjoyed every minute of it. Everyone who has seen it has liked the colour (dusky purple... needs to be seen in the flesh, photos don't do it justice) - though playing it at a wedding a week or two ago it was a struggle to find a tie that matched... and I'm probably going to change the strings just because the red bits clash... ahem, what a tart... If someone would like to sell me either a pearl white version or a fretless... well, I wouldn't say no.
