Artists would often record different versions of the same song, sometimes with different arrangements, sometimes with different musicians. I'm not overly familiar with Jameson's or Kaye's history, but it's quite probable that each would have been called in for different takes/versions of the same song. As time goes by, for some songs, even for the featured artist and producer, knowing exactly whose bass part ended up on the released version would be nigh on impossible to ascertain.

Both ways entirely ok. More usual though that the FOH engineer use his own DI.That way, if your amp goes down you'll still be heard out front.

I was there too. Aside from Bowie, one of the many things I remember from that day - The Icehouse bass player throwing his bass across the dressing room/caravan after their show, and thinking, "What a kn#b!"

Ok, this (and the fact no one else mentions it) has got me thinking that perhaps my plugs are not working as they should. Would the good BC folk that use ear plugs do me a favour? Put on some firm soled shoes or boots (not the soft, springy soled trainer types), put in your plugs, and take a few steps on a hard floor. Can you hear a dull, but very noticeable, thumping in your head with every step? If this is something that shouldn't happen, and I can elliminate it (new moulds perhaps), that would be a serious result

ACS 17s user here! There are many downsides to using ear plugs, and only one upside. Unfortunately, the one upside easily trumps all the downsides One thing that I haven't seen mentioned - The thumping in the head when you walk or tap your feet - drives me mad!

Ive never seen a worst bass instructional video than this.

I think the "clarifications" are enough to render the video pretty much useless. Even in her "clarifications" she says, "Always play the root - in the beginning of the bar". This is bad information, particularly for the beginner student, who will look up to her and take her word as gospel and carry that (mis)information with them for a long time. -

Er, yes! The whole video is full of "Don't do this", "Never do that", with examples of how not to do things. She then demonstrates how they should be done. The "claim" is made in the video not in this thread. Apology accepted Of course it's rubbish, and wasn't supposed to be taken seriously - heck, I've even been known to teach -

This may be HER approach to bass playing. But, to say that this is how it SHOULD be done is nonsense. I'm reminded of that idiom: Those who can, do - Those who can't, teach! -
The Allman Brothers. In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.
SteveK replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Toured with The Allman Bros back in '91 when they, and The Beach Boys, were in Europe. Never really knew much about them, other than they had "legendary" status. First met Gregg just before the first show in Berlin: He walks into our dressing-room, introduces himself and strikes up polite conversation. All the time, we couldn't help but notice that he seemed to be distracted by the various bottles of booze laid out neatly on a table. After a couple of minutes of chat he asks if he can pour himself a drink, "Sure Gregg, help yourself!" After 1/2 an hour and a couple of shots of something-or-other he said his goodbyes. We all discuss "What a nice friendly chap Gregg is" only to discover, later on, alcohol was banned from The Allmans dressing room. -
Paul Young touring 35 years of 'No Parlez'
SteveK replied to police squad's topic in General Discussion
A little unfair to say, "I never actually saw the talent or the appeal", and then post a clip from 2017 to prove your point. Paul Young's voice/throat problems have been well documented. He says himself that he can't sing how he used to. Whether his "new" singing style is acceptable, well... You're being ironic, right? -

Pat Davey is on bass duty. -
Featuring my dear friend and band-mate Jimmy Copley on drums who sadly passed away last year.

I personally, wouldn't get within 5 miles of a compressor pedal! I've recently taken issue with our monitor engineer, who, in spite of my occasional protestations, insists on adding "Just a little bit" of compression, which is mostly fed to the drummer and keys player. Dynamics in the band is very important, I need to be in total control. Using a compressor, even "Just a little bit", takes away just a little bit of control.

Africa - like you've never heard it before?

Nice to see Diego Maradona keeping himself busy on BVs! -
Maybe, but aint it just perfect though!

Loved the look of a Strat and P bass at first sight. Still think there is something wonderfully futuristic looking about them, especially the Strat.
-
If it makes you feel any better, and not knowing the actual track, it's quite possible that the person credited with playing the bass part didn't actually play what you're hearing.

In the spirit of esprit de corps I shall refrain from posting my immediate thoughts on reading your post. Must be a coincidence that the BBC game show hosted by Alexander Armstrong was on as I read it.

I can't really comment on what you've heard or not heard, other than to say, you've clearly been very successful in avoiding all forms of media for the last 55 years.

Not sure how many of those changed a band's modus operandi.

And some of those very same groups soon realised that the huge success of The Beatles was a game changer.

I've always held the view that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that some peoples opinions are worth more than others. Until this interview I would have said QJ's opinion's were worth their weight in gold... seems I would have been wrong!

That could possibly explain it.
