1.
The Duff McKagan is a good example of how a sig instrument should be. The bass it`s modeled on is no longer in production, and many people like Duffs sound, so to me this one makes sense.
I would argue the only person that will get Duff's sound from his signature model is Duff. Blue
  2.
The new National Living Wage is a complete con. In the UK, if you worked for 16hrs or less a week (at the old minimum wage £6.70ph) you are entitled to certain tax breaks due to your low income. Your annual income will be less than the national taxable wage. Now that the wage is higher (£7.20ph), this puts you over the non-taxable limit which means you will now need to pay tax on your income. Which makes your net income less than it was before the new Living Wage was introduced! It's a con and a shambles. You could argue that this only negatively affects those on the lowest income. But aren't they the ones that deserve our help the most? I know many people that work exactly 16hrs a week because they have care responsibilies (kids, sick, elderly etc) and now they're being pinched even harder. Anyway, back on topic; I've discussed with the band the possibility of trying to work out some original numbers. Promising!
Over here in the States, conservatives do not believe in helping anyone. They think you should just crawl in a gutter and die. Blue
  3.
I`m 72 next month & play in an old band from the 60s. Still work pretty regularly. Also do my own thing supported by various musician friends at local pub venues singing and playing guitar. My own stuff and a bunch of old Gulf Coast stuff. Nothing beats that rush.
This guy gets it. Cool story Blue
  4. If your really "in this" compromise comes into the picture. If I restricted myself to only the music like, I'd be broke and bandless. Blue
  5.
That is possibly one of the coolest basses I've ever seen.
Agreed, sweet! I had the chance to buy the exact same bass, MIJ in Lake Placid blue. I waited a day and it was gone.
  6. My MIJ Fender P reissues. The 1951 and the Sting Bass. Blue
  7.
I'm sure he means RBH. http://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_410rbh.htm
Ok, I use the rb1001 with RBX cabs which I believe are also discontinued. Great cabs though. They pack a bigger punch than the Neos. Actually, lately I've been gigging with my neo combo. Blue
  8. I have 2 MIJ Fender P basses. Does that count as Japanese build. Top notch stuff as far as I'm concerned. Blue
  9.
The RBH series cabs match. They're discontinued and they've held their value very well. Quite expensive! The best cabs I've ever used though, great tone.
Do you mean the RBX cabs? Blue
  10. Very cool, very professional, impressive. Usually I don't comment on clips because I don't have anything positive to say. This was very enjoyable. Blue
  11. Seems like many have gone through a lot of bad band experiences. What thought process or criteria do you use before you join a band. I've discussed this before. A lot of guys don't like being in bands because initial bad band experiences .They don't think much beyond, "I want to play in band" I think you have to define why you want to be in a band and maybe 2-3 deal breakers the band must have for you to consider them. Another thing is, if you don't you have any band experience being in a band can be challenging. Be careful, don't join just any band, join the band that offers the key things your looking for. A band experience should be fun and not a drag. Blue
  12.
Heres the set list Friends, the Rembrandts Cliff richard ,cant remember what it is Lionel richie, all night long Beat it Dance the night away Erasure respect I could go on but its hurting my teeth now Dont get me wrong some of it was ok in our set list ,but the crap was out weighing the good good songs:-( ps more crap songs too follow..
Those are not crap songs. Those are songs you don't like. Blue
  13.
I do, and have done for many years. See post #18, where I quite clearly state "I stopped gigging years ago & I'll never be in another band".
Good luck, bands are definitely not for everyone. Blue
  14.
I was in a band for all of 1 audition and 1 rehearsal recently. Apparently not having 40 songs learnt within 2 weeks, when there was no gig for 2 months "didn't show commitment". Ok bye then ! I left the band before that as we learnt a load of new songs for a gig, then the guitarist decided last minute to cut them from the setlist as we "weren't ready". It was a charity gig, we weren't being paid and thus it was a great opportunity to test them out (even though we were ready, he just chickened out). Recent dealings with joinmyband have left me feeling extremely anti-band, I cannot seem to find people that have realistic expectations from people. It seems to be all weekend warriors who want to gig 8 days a week.
I can't speak for the UK scene, but in the States, most opportunities advertised to the public are from wanabees and start ups that will never see their first gig. Blue
  15.
I'm more than happy to accept that a lot of it is down to the way I am. I've never been comfortable with people in general, and working as part of a team, even if doing something I really enjoy, is incredibly stressful for me. Being diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum last year at the age of 50 has finally helped to explain to me why this is. It's unfortunate, but as much as I enjoy playing music doing it with other people is a nightmare for me.
So why don't you just stay away from bands? Blue
  16. If it's in your soul, you'll continually move forward. It's good to understand what specifically it is that's driving to play bass guitar. Blue
  17. If your a gigging bass player I think playability, good action, right neck fit for you, and intonation are key. Blue
  18.
In the mid 80s we put the vocals through the 100w H/H, into a couple of 2x12" 25W Celestion speakers. The bass amp was 100w Peavey and the guitar some kind of Marshall amp. The vocals would have been pushed to the point of feedback but would easily distort at those kinds of volumes. No one complained we were too quiet or asked us to turn down. In the late 90s we were running vocals through 1500w peavy amp and mixer but maybe running at 1/3 if that. The only person who thought we weren't loud enough was the drummer - a lover of heavy metal - playing in a function band. We actually were given a residency at a club because we were able to play "at the appropriate volume for the venue". I now use a 500w head into 2x400w cabs. It rarely goes above 3, but sounds very clean and lots of people have said how nice the band sound. Bands have gotten louder, mainly due to inexpensive power, if your audience are not down the front with you; then you're too loud.
Interesting over here in the States the bar owners don't care if your to loud or too quiet. They're only concerned about whether or not they're selling enough alcohol. Blue
  19. I think PAs now are better an offer more and better control over a bands sound. I was bar gigging with the 750 watt GK rb1001 with 2 10s on top of a 15". It was great but not really necessary for bar gigs, I now run the GK 1 15" combo, XRL out to the board. Blue
  20. I think you would be fine with the Star Fire, which is closer to a true double cutaway body style or the Cassidy. I went with the Gibson ES-335 Custom Shop bass and the German made Horner Club. Blue
  21.
I am learning some new basslines at the mo. These aren't basslines i will ever likely play in a gig yet still strangely i feel fulfilled just learning and feeding the grey cells.
You never know where one of those bass lines might fit in. Blue
  22.
Very fortunate indeed, but think of all the other experiences you're missing out on. Quite a dilemma really; focus on one thing all our lives and hopefully excel at it or aim for a broad range of interests and experiences but probably not have time to excel in any of them?
I never think about things I'm missing out on. Never really occurred to me. I'm cool with where I'm at in life. I'm not sure I excel at music or playing bass. But as I said my experience is more than fulfilling. If I didn't have gigging, I be lost and depressed. Blue
  23.
I've finally begun to realise, after 37 years of playing, that if I'm looking for fulfilment I'm not going to get it from music.
Interesting, for me music and gigging is the only thing I have in life. Lucky for me its very fulfilling. Blue

Weezer, is booked for Summerfest in Milwaukee WI. I should go. Blue
  25.
Those layers sound like something done on a looper. Nice groove though. I think League's enthusiasm is genuine, he just really digs doing that stuff. He always comes across as being incredibly humble too. Often the case with true musicians, especially in jazz circles, I've found.
Very much like my original comment about these guys. Blue
