  1. [quote name='Les' timestamp='1500595023' post='3339041'] Interesting. To each their own but I would feel exposed in that situation. cheers Les [/quote] Out of curiosity, exposed to what? Blue
  2. [quote name='KK Jale' timestamp='1500504443' post='3338384'] She's new to me, what a knockout, great talent. [/quote] With her looks how can you lose? Blue
  3. [quote name='Les' timestamp='1500574948' post='3338853'] Could you gig without them Blue ? [/quote] It would be tough Les, no one else in the band knows how to run sound & lights or sell merch. I don't think the musicians would even know how, when or who to ask for payment. Blue
  4. [quote name='Les' timestamp='1500545337' post='3338568'] Out of curiosity Blue are they paid for this ? Les [/quote] Hi Les. Yes, but not the same rate as the on stage talent. The band like any band has strengths and weaknesses. For a primarily bar band business structure is our strength. Blue

  6. [quote name='peteb' timestamp='1500505748' post='3338386'] Yea, but you're not going to the office or clocking on at a factory! My general rule is if there is a public bar or a backstage area / guest list then it's fine to bring a partner, but not if it is a corporate, function or wedding gig, etc. I don't why she would want to sit thru a 4 hour bar gig on her own, unless of course it's the only chance she gets to see you! I suppose that it would depend on whether any of the other WAGs were going... [/quote] We're a 4 piece. I'm the only single unattached menber of the band. All the other members are married and their spouses attend every gig. However the spouses all play important roles in the band from merchandise, sound and lights, set up and tear down to marketing and payroll. Blue
  7. [quote name='Dad3353' timestamp='1500492953' post='3338272'] Go to your 'My Profile' (your pseudo, top right...). Select 'Edit my Profile' (black button a bit below...). Select 'Manage Attachments' (in the list on the left...). They are listed in date order. Navigate to oldest, select those to be deleted (tick boxes on the right...). Select 'Delete Selected' (grey button at bottom right of list...). Repeat, page by page, until all unwanted attachments are deleted. Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Imgur or Flickr is a good idea, of course; even more so if using higher resolution photos. Your quota limit would never be reached using this method, and the photos are better presented. Just sayin'; that's what I do, and never need to worry about quotas. Hope this helps; meanwhile... Have a nice day Douglas [/quote] Thanks Dad, Blue
  8. I could see taking a girlfriend to a high end big stage, big lights and sound where your doing an hour show. But not a 4 hour US Midwest bar gig. Blue

    Yikes!!!

You know, there are songs and then there are songs. Are we trying to learn "Teen Town" or "Mustang Sally"? Blue
  10. [quote name='peteb' timestamp='1500421255' post='3337701'] Classic Rock is a bit of catch all. It could include blues (or at least blues rock) or it could mean Dire Straits or the Eagles all the way to Judas Priest...! [/quote] Agreed, Interesting we play what I call 70s hard rock. So I guess that's a part of Classic Rock. Blue Off topic, How do you manage or delete yiur photos photos on BC when you've exceeded the amount of storage space?
  11. [quote name='FinnDave' timestamp='1497745861' post='3320372'] Same for us in Witney this evening, plenty of people there but all sitting out in the garden listening, we were sweating buckets playing to an almost empty pub. Still, it went well, we enjoyed outsides, got paid and rebooked, so all OK. [/quote] We finally had a decent gig after 2 shows where I felt the band didn't sound that great. Beautiful Sunday afternoon 3:00-7:00 biker gig, 3 sets at The Road House. Nice size crowd and we really connected with them. The band was really burning on all 6 cylinders. That doesn't always hapoen. In a word "fun". Blue
  12. [quote name='T-Bay' timestamp='1500272324' post='3336518'] Partly but if I stick you with a Stagg with an action as high as Mt Rushmore through the Peavey practice amp we have at work that sounds like wasps trapped in a tin you won't get the same tone. You are right that your fingers are critical to it but you need kit that will allow that to show through. [/quote] Of course you need a bass that's reasonabky playable. Blue
  13. [quote name='Geek99' timestamp='1500155451' post='3336013'] I know nothing about being a blacksmith but if I watch a video about how to make horse shoes, how would I know if the guy was a master or a charlatan or a talented amateur ? [/quote] Not the best comparison, sorry. IMO even a beginner should be able to detect a bad tutorial. Usually the good one are easy to learn from. Blue
  14. My tone comes from my fingers my style of playing, not an amp or bass. On a good night it great on a bad night, not so good. Blue
  15. If the Squire is MIJ it would be the way to go IMO. MIM, not for me. Blue

    Yikes!!!

24 songs in 7 days would be tough on me. I think it's a lot for 7 days. My retention isn't very good, never has been. Blue
  17. [quote name='T-Bay' timestamp='1500192050' post='3336080'] And that's why your system is broken. [/quote] You won't get an argument or debate on that one out of me. Broken is an understatement. Blue
  18. [quote name='T-Bay' timestamp='1500192050' post='3336080'] And that's why your system is broken. The average gets done over every day. The inequality here is terrible but nothing compared to America. But that's a whole other thread! I presume it's similar when you play and you rely on the tips? [/quote] I think those in hospitality, waiters & waitresses and the hair dressers really rely on tips. In a band tips are merely just a little extra. You could never rely on tips in a band over here. Blue
  19. [quote name='T-Bay' timestamp='1500148231' post='3335964'] Then why not charge $20? [/quote] Because then the owner would get the $20.00 and the employee would get nothing except their $2.00 an hour wage. Blue
  20. It's a good idea for bands that are getting away from pub & bar gigs and into higher pay venues. Most if not all bars over here pay cash. Blue
  21. This thread went all over the place. All I really wanted was a "thumbs up" on my new purple Nikes pictured in my thread introduction.😁 Blue
  22. Tipping, yeah it's really accepted in the States. I found out from a friend that use to cut hair where I get my hair cut, they get pissed if you don't tip at least $5.00 for a $15.00 haircut. Igrtit and I'm cool with it, I know the corporate hourly wage there is a joke. Blue
  23. [quote name='SpondonBassed' timestamp='1500133037' post='3335839'] The British SUL Handbook says that it is vulgar to mention income or related matters like owning a textile mill or an iron foundry up t'north or one's position as the resident bass player for a major recording label even [i]if[/i] one has been formally introduced to everyone by the hostess. There has always been a "thing" that Brits and Yanks see differently. Your culture is proud of its successful entrepreneurs but in ours we tend to build 'em up just to knock them down for their success and wealth later on. Do not confuse any of this with the British gentry system. That's a whole different life! Ho hum. SUL = Stiff Upper Lip. [/quote] Good point, and thanks for the education. I understand the difference. For example I know tipping is frowned upon by you guys and we applaud it. Although, last Saturday after our gig a guy came up to me personally and handed me a 20 dollar bill and told me to keep quiet about it. It felt weird, I gave the 20 to our band leader to add to the nights tips. Blue
  24. [quote name='ahpook' timestamp='1500132342' post='3335832'] C'mon....folks just mention it and you get all riled. I've never seen or heard [i]anyone[/i] who has said they play non-professionally get as wound up as you do by people who do the contrary. What's the beef ? [/quote] No beef really. I'm sticking with; " No more than those who bring up they're not in it for the money." Blue
  25. [quote name='T-Bay' timestamp='1500109180' post='3335646'] That may be support act syndrome though, I have seen some brilliant support acts where the majority of the crowd just don't even bother listening because it isn't who they came to see so the support act just don't get the atmosphere no matter what they do. It's sad when people are so blinkered. Some of my favourite bands are ones I saw as supports acts first. And if you ever wanted to come over here I am sure that between us all on BC we could get you a good few gigs. I know a few places locally who I am sure would have you play. [/quote] Good point, As you know I'm a huge Stones fan. Whenever I'm at a Stones show regardless of who's opening, I'm impatient and want them off stage as soon as possible. That goes for Buddy Guy who opens for them most times when they play Millwaukee. Blue
