1. We're a 70s style guitar driven blues/rock band and this guy comes up and asks me if we play any Beasty Boys. If that's not a good example that punters don't have a clue then I don't know what is. Blue
 2.
Band I play with likes to play the "original" version of songs. When things have been sampled etc people know the melody but often think we have re-arranged the tune. Examples - Labi Siffri - I Got The Anne Robinson - You Did It Max Romeo - Chase The Devil Etc etc
Getting older is really tough. I've never heard of any of those artists you listed. I'll YouTube them. Blue
 3.
As long as it looks like you're getting into it, smile occasionally, move to the groove, make eye contact and interact with other band members, that should be enough. Not everybody needs to be Flea.
At 64, that moving to the groove thing no longer works for me. Blue
 4. It will happen eventually, actually may have happened already to me. But I'm not ready or going to give into the grey hair fedora look yet. Age catches up with all of us eventually. Blue
 5.
Stage presence is a strange thing. I think you either have it or you don't and it can't be learned or taught. It's not about moves either. You can stand completely still and still be the coolest player in the world. Similarly, as shown in another thread, you can have all of the moves and still look like a clown.
I disagree, I think you can improve but you have to work at it. I've lost the bent over look and now stand up straight. Now all I have to do is work on getting rid of this bouncy step thing, smiling more and making better audience eye contact. Blue
 6.
I think the Flea and Geddy Lee basses are amazing instruments, regardless how you feel about the artists themselves.
I'm a marginal bass player. Any bass I play will only be marginal at best. Amazing basses will only sound amazing if your playing skills are amazing. Blue
 7. Watching a recent video, I noticed how I think I feel and look on stage is not reality. Reality is what I see in video. I had this bouncy sort of thing going on that doesn't look cool at all Blue
 8. Right up my alley. I think it's very cool to play in a competent well reheased Rock & Roll band. And usually there's good money in it. Good luck Blue
 9.
Well I`m over 50 and for me most of my stage presence/movement depends on the size of the stage. If it`s cramped then moving about too much isn`t an option so I pretty much stay still - but always keep eye contact with the crowd, never shoe-gaze. But recently we`ve played a few bigger stages and I`ve had remarks that "Lozz moves" almost in wonder. I have to limit what I do to what my body can take the next day though, and luckily as a non-drinker I don`t get carried away with liquid enthusiasm.
Good for you, I haven't experienced alcohol in decades. Those that follow my threads know I'm not real big on drinking on the job. Blue
 10.
I'm 40 but I don't keep still, wireless all the way. I like to have a wander, interact with the punters and have a giggle. Rock, metal bass players in local band mostly just stand at the back. I want to be different and engage with people. Hopefully they have as much fun as I do..
I think wireless gives us more freedom. After 9 years of gigging wireless I would never trust a strait lead. Blue
 11. 12. I haven't brought up this topic in a while. I've been working on my presence on stage and have been making some improvements. It's probably something most of us as bass players don't think about much. And if you don't gig much or if your a stand in the back by the drummer type it probably doesn't matter much. It's an issue for me because of my advanced age, relatively speaking and I'm an upfront on stage guy. Video has been a great help. I noticed that I wasn't standing up straight with good posture as I should. And guess what guys, the head bobbing doesn't work all of us. It doesn't for me. And BTW, you young guys in great shape can get away with just about anything. Share your thoughts, especially you over 60 guys. Blue
 13.
So Jason Momoa posted a picture to Facebook and it had Slash wearing our band t shirt we had sent to him. Maybe not a big deal to some but to me it meant the world...
It's a big deal to me. Very cool! Blue
 14.
Have a chat with the engineer and make him aware you will be altering your gain occasionally. He can keep an eye on the signal coming from your amp.
Thanks a lot for the help. We go on at 7:00 tonight, Frampton starts at 9:30. Rainy here in Milwaukee, I'll just pretend I'm playing Glastonbury. Blue
 15.
Be aware that, with the Post EQ button selected, any tweaks to your EQ while you're onstage will affect the signal sent to the desk. So if you increase the gain on your amp, the signal to the desk will also increase. So it's a good idea to avoid making any EQ adjustments to your amp, after the band starts playing, if you can. With Pre EQ selected, your DI out just acts like a standard DI box and any tweaks to your amp EQ will not effect the signal to the desk.
This is a tough one, now I'm thinking I should use pre eq option because I'm changing changing volumes from song to song. Blue
 16.
Yep it just sends the di to foh before the eq section or after it, means foh can change or tweak the sound more than working of your eq. I'm always post eq tho as I've set up the eq to work with effects aswell so I prefer that.
Ill do that too, so, keep the post EQ button on the in position? Blue
 17.
As the title says I've recently noticed a slight improvement in my ability. Which has been along time coming. I still feel that for my approx 4 years and a few months playing I'm way behind. I know I wasted 2 years on very bad technique and just trying to teach myself the basics. Then a year or so teaching my ex girlfriend the basics of playing. With success I might add and she does still play I believe. But it taken up a lot of time and so I never felt like practicing myself or pushing myself to learn harder things. Anyhow I've been putting in more time the last few months and although I'm not happy still with my ability (although passed my initial, play along to easy tunes goal long ago) at least there's improvement. Oh last time I complained I couldn't play hit me with your rhythm stick. Well now I can play a passible version at full speed, I'm still working on it, I know I will get there. So my confidence to be able to improve is also better. Still a long way to go.
You can be any kind if player you want to be. There are tools and tutorials on every aspect of bass playing you can imagine and then some on YouTube. It depends on how much you want to put into it. For some playing high level bass comes naturally and it's easy for them. It's never been easy for me. Even after 50 years of playing I still have to practice a lot to learn new things and keep my chops up, and I have a busy gigging schedule. I don't recommend new players spend a lot of time on slapping and popping technique. Start with the basics. Keep at it and don't discount the tools on YouTube especially Scott's Bass Lessons. Even his free stuff is invaluable. Blue
 18. Not sure what this button do in terms of what it sends to the house. I mean it sends my effects right? Blue
 19. The bands that played Woodstock 1969 and made it onto the feature film we're propelled into Super Stardom and subsequently arenaville or stadium land as well. Beatles and The Stones didn't need it they were already huge. Right? Blue
 20. Big gig this Sunday. I was tweaking my pedals through my head phones. The MRX Bass Distortion sounds great through the head phones. Today I tried it through my amp and get no Distortion at all? Works fine through the head phones. I'm wireless if that makes a difference. Blue
 21.
Wonder what this is worth now... sold it and another identical one around 12 years back after gigging them exclusively for a few years. They were a delight - only 550 LP Triumph basses ever made apparently. Can't help thinking they've squandered their valuable heritage!
Cool looking bass. Blue
 22.
Im looking for some advice from more experienced players, I have a gig next Saturday, first one ever, I'm slightly scared but excited too. I'm as prepared as I can be (6 weeks to learn 20 songs, I'm winging almost all of them!)
Personally, even after 50 years of playing, I've never had much luck "winging it" Blue
 23.
The last one I met told me he'd been feeling a little blue
😁
 24. I'll probably see Peter Frampton this Sunday. I hope he's still covering Blackhole Sun. Blue
 25.
ever mistaken a fan for an invisible bear?
No, invisible bears, I'm pretty sure they're on the endangered species list. You know, they're invisible so mounting one correctly can be tricky. Blue
