1.
Same, squashed signal to feed the OD.
I still don't have a functional handle on how to use my overdrive. There's always a signal drop off when I engage it. Maybe I should use my MRX M85 Bass Distortion pedal as an OD? Blue
 2.
Yes, amp failed early in first song, and the bass fell over and damaged fingerboard and string. I had and used spare amp and spare bass. I've just been listening to my recording of the gig ready to upload and it sounds fine. I did edit out the false start, as we had to stop about on minute into the first number while I changed amps.
Dave, I hope there's no hidden damage to your bass Just think if the hassle had you not been prepared with back up bass and amp. I always have a spare bass and amp head in my car at gigs. Guys, all it takes is one incident and being unprepared could be a nightmare. Blue
 3.
I have one but prefer the TC Corona with Toneprint. Tom Hamilton does no wrong in my eye.
That's what I've been using. I'm not sure how the toneprint feature works. Blue
 4.
Building a new big pedalboard, strictly for fun and experiments at home (too heavy for me to carry around, and with effects I wouldn't really use for blues and classic rock ) The board has a PT Pro footprint, and fully loaded it is stupidly heavy, but as I don't intend to carry it outside the house I can live with it. Still missing cables which I have to solder over the coming days, something I don't look forward to.
That has to be the coolest board I've ever seen. Blue
 5. I'll try placing it after my tuner. Blue
 6.
Some rather mixed feelings about tonight's gig. On the one hand, I enjoyed our playing and the audience loved us, on the other, I was using a brand new amp, delivered to my house half an hour before I left for the gig, which worked at home and for the first 30 seconds of the first number, then stopped dead. Fortunately, I had my old amp in the car, and it was the work of a minute or so to get it and swap it over. Then in the break, someone complimented me on my bass playing and said I sounded like I was channelling Duck Dunn, which is the best compliment I've ever had, followed a few minutes later by my seeing from a distance my year-old Fender US Jazz bass and stand falling gracefully onto the drum kit. One string damaged by a cymbal and a couple of small dents in the fingerboard. Fortunately, I had a spare bass in the car, and that too was the work of a minute or so to get it and swap it over. Moral is always carry a spare!
Dave, You had issues with your bass and amp at the same gig? Blue

 8.
What order do you have them in at the moment?
I'm not sure. Our sound tech just worked on the board and rearranged the chain. When he worked on it he didn't have my EBS Multi-Comp. 1.Wireless Relay Receiver 2.Tuner 3.Phaser 4.Distortion 5.Reverb 6.Bass Octave 7.Overdrive 8.Chorus 9.Delay ---------- GK 750 watt rb1001 Blue
 9. Confusing, the EBS Multi-Comp is a nice pedal. Seems like there's no easy simple answer. Seems like single coil PUs hit the pedals differently than humbuckers. Then there's the active pre-amp in my my G&L ASAT,also an issue with pedals. Maybe I should leave my board alone. Blue
 10. I'm looking for a quick easy answer. I recently had my pedal board set up or re-set. Everything works great now ( no pops, busses ect..) even my Soloman Overdrive is silent. I'm just not sure where to place my compression. Blue
 11.
Is that because there's not a lot really that can go wrong with a passive bass? My bass is active, but has the option to switch to passive if something did go wrong with the circuit.
Yes, passive is really low risk. Now, I remember once at a gig the 9 volt in my G&L ASAT bass failed. I had a spare but I managed to switch out the bad 9 volt during a break. It was a pain in the arse. BTW, I'm not sure, but in the G&L ASAT if the 9 volt fails the bass is useless in passive mode as well. Blue
 12.
It's absolutely nothing to do with being professional or otherwise. It's all to do with practicability and money. If I'm catching the train to Bristol for a solo gig, like I am in a few weeks, I'm not going to be able to take 2 of everything with me, and yes I said a solo gig, so even more important that everything works. I recently played 2 gigs in a Paris, it's just not practical or cost effective to have 2 of everything.
I play over 65 gigs annually with my band, all types of venues, from bars to large festival stages. Over the last 40 years I always bring a spare bass. I've never had to use the spare, however I will continue to bring the spare. I've seen how embarrassing it is when your at a gig, your instrument fails and you don't have a back up. Blue
 13. I always use whatever they provide. If I can avoid hauling anything, I You might have control over your amp head. You never have complete control over the house sound. Blue
 14.
Guys, Until now i have generally played with fingers, resisting the pick out of pure snobbery and a desire to learn to play the bass "properly".
What's proper? Paul McCartney and Carol Kaye play with picks. If it's good enough for them it's good enough for me. Blue
 15.
I'm coming to the conclusion that total control is the only solution. Our sound is an odd mix and we know how to mic ourselves up and get the right amount of separation, control feedback issues from an amplified acoustic violin and keep the bass from setting off the Cajon (the drummer is usually in front of me and is mic'd from behind). With very few exceptions, club sound engineers have no idea how to handle this kind of set up. I suspect they panic a bit and get defensive, but my sound is meant to be toppy. I play a Stingray on purpose. I use harmonics as part of an arrangement, not as an optional extra. All the guy needs to do is listen to what comes out of the front of my amp and make it louder for the audience. How hard is that?
You would think it be easy, however with big systems they can find a way to make your high end StingRay sound boomy, dull and muddy. Blue
 16.
You guys need to join a Jazz band. The audiences are never big enough for us to NEED a PA or soundman.
If I joined a local jazz band I'd be broke. Local jazz band = no gigs Blue
 17. Your definitely a part of the new direction of bass playing and popular music. Blue
 18.
Congrats on your gig I did summer Festival a number of years ago and split ale all over me on a hot summers day , I was then hounded by some wasps , my wife commented how I was dancing more than usual , she couldn't see the wasps I was trying to shake off . I'm sure yours will go well , your a time served player , just do your thing
Thanks mojo. Blue
 19.
TBH / IME etc - it probably won't be! Hopefully you will get a soundman who has been in bands himself and will respond to any 'reasonable' requests that you make. It will help if you appear to understand how it all works - again 'reasonable' is the keyword! Don't get too hung up on it - a good performance will win over most crowds even if the sound is a bit crap...
Good advice Pete. I have to stay positive. Blue
 20.
A Walter Trout track – that’s cool…! Don’t expect too many favours from the sound crew, but if you’re friendly and give them a couple of reasonable requests you might get lucky and get a stand-up guy who do his best for you…
Thanks Pete, Sound will be a big topic of discussion at rehearsals prior to the show. We have been burned by awful sound at Summerfest in previous years. We have to find a way to getting better sound from these union guys. Our sound guy will be there but I'm not sure his input is welcome,😞 Blue
 21.
I saw Walter Trout a couple of days ago, his support bad was his sons's band, and the FoH sound was not good, bass drum overpowering everything and the bass was just a mushy rumble. It didn't bode well for the great man's set, but even though he used the same bassist (and same bass, amp, etc. as his own man had fallen ill, or possibly had been locked in a cupboard!) and the sound was much clearer. I was close to the desk and when I looked round, there was a different guy mixing. I spoke with the second guy and he attributed it to the difference in stage sound, but I think he was being a little too modest, he was obviously far better at his job than the guy who had mixed the first band.
It's all union guys running sound, it seems like they don't like talking to outsiders. Our sound guy will be there, but in prior years he can't seem to make any headway regarding the mix. I just hope they don't stick us with dry vocal signals. BTW, I saw the set list. We're actually covering a Walter Trout tune. Blue
 22.
Congrats, Blue. Just like in a club, pick out some smiling faces in the crowd and play to them. Remember, they WANT you to be good, they're on your side.
I will do just that. Interesting, I know there are some local bands that probably think we don't deserve the spot and would come in hopes of seeing us fail.😣 Blue
 23.
It's just another gig. Do what you do and make sure your monitors are right. Have a great time.
Sound for support acts has always been a concern of mine. Maybe it's me or maybe headliners are far superior than support bands. Just seems like headliner sound is impeccable. Support acts not so much. Blue
 24. I think I might take my more mature younger brother with me in case I do have an anxiety attack. Blue
