1.
I heard a few tracks from it playing in HMV on Friday and whilst I haven't heard any rolling stones albums, I was expecting to hear something incredible but the tracks I heard didn't sound anything special.
You had to be there and you had to be a fan. Blue
 2.
I did think of buying it regardless because I don't have any of their music at all and it would be good to hear more of it and get a better grasp of what they are about. May still do that after Christmas.
They're the best blues band to come out of London.IMO Blue
 3.
I like it, bearing in mind the age of the band it's like they decided as its probably the last album they would come full circle and returned to where they started.
Yeah, it sounds like it's similar to "12 X 5". Great reviews on YouTube. Blue
 4.
Just seen the ad on the telly....anybody bought or planning to buy it? Have they had their day (again) or will they rise from the ashes like a Phoenix against all expectations?
I won't buy it, but I support it and I think it's cool they released a new blues cover album. No expectations, The Stones are on my "cant do any wrong" list. Blue
 5.
. . . Err. . . because that particular bass sounded good?
I'm not even going to be creative with my response; Bass players sound good not basses Blue
 6.
Bloody tragic, isn't it.
In a way, yes it is tragic. I think, at least in the States top 40 exposed my generation to more different types of music. The Beatles could have the number 1 spot on the charts and Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole could have chatted number 2. Blue
 7.
A lot of 'pop' music is dated because of the technology and equipment used in recording it. Early 80's pop music in particular.
I have to disagree, back in the days of analog recording you had real bands playing real instruments. That analog sound is a lot truer to what was going on in the studio than what you hear digitally. And I'm talking more 60s and 70s technology. While the music is dated in time, nothing sounds as big, clean, warm and robust as the soundtrack to the Beatles United Artists film release of "Hard Days Night". Blue
 8. Word to the wise, your bass should go from your hands to the case. No in-between stops. Blue
 9.
yeah I was diggin that Lakland also
I will never understand why some of you guys think it's a particular bass that sounds good. It's a combination of a few things like ability and a good grasp of EQ. That's 2, there are others. Blue
 10. There are plenty of 9 years olds that can play circles around me and I've been playing for over 50 years. My position, that's great, but who cares?I'm 63 still gigging and having fun. Blue
 11. A bass will never give you tone. You can EQ sound or use an effect ( gain, compression, boost). Tone comes from your fingers, that's where you develop your tone. Blue
 12.
I'll agree that recording the whole gig through a phone or other device must take a lot away from being there and otherwise enjoying it. However, I think a lot has to be said for recording a song or two as a memento. I think it's a great keepsake from a gig that you really enjoyed. I'm in the process of uploading a video at the moment from the Clutch gig at Camden last night which i think came out rather well. The were a lot more annoying things occurring in the crowd last night than someone standing there with their phone in front of them!
I hardly notice it. If someone wants to live stream a couple of songs at one of our gigs, Go ahead, we're not that important and we don't take ourselves that seriously Blue
 13.
Kinda nauseating isn't it? I'd do it for free but that's my choice, I'm not having it decided for me very much like yourself. I go to work to get paid, I'm not doing that for charity either. I just think there should be a bit more justification when someone expects a lot for very little, I may end up saying 'well if you want more people here, charge 90p a pint.' Or something.
For those into playing for free, cool, that's your right and choice. For those asking bands to play for free and profiting off those bands, not cool. Blue
 14.
Generally speaking, a good song of the 60s is still a good song today! Of course lyrics/subject matter can date a song. But, the biggest thing to date a record is production, and to some extent arrangement.
I'll go with that but I'd ad social relevancy Blue
 15.
But in all fairness, Blue, how often do you go around the room telling the audience how great they were?
More than you think. I try to go around to all of our regulars and newbies thanking them for coming out to see us. Blue
 16.
Don't think that was quite what the OP was asking. If Love Me Do was released today (with no knowledge of former glories) would it still reach no.17 in the charts? I'm not sure it would. Maybe Love Me Do feat. Rhianna and DJ Skanky Dick might though.
Ok, well yeah I doubt "Love Me Do" would chart at all. Neither would "Satisfaction". Not that it makes any difference ,but we haven't had Top 40 AM radio in decades. Blue
 17. Celebrities get old and have health issues just like the rest of us. But they tend to keep it private. I didn't know Greg Lake or Leon Russell was sick. Blue
 18. Some people are just rude. They'll approach the band and tell the guitarist how great they are and absolutely ignore the rest of the band members. Blue
 19.
There are very few songs that I would refuse, point blank, to play. And if I did, it would usually be because I thought them inappropriate for the band rather than any personal preference.
Agreed, however songs I thought would be inappropriate for my band have turned out to be huge crowd pleasers. It's why I keep my mouth shut regarding song choice. I'm getting paid to play bass and sing in a rock & roll band. I like getting paid. I'm in no position to refuse to play anything.Bands with work are far and few in-between in my neck of the woods. I try to make all songs fun to play in one way or the other. Blue
 20. I'm happy to play what the BL wants. I have no interest in suggesting new songs or material to my band. I'm not a good judge of what songs will work. Plus you really have to have a decent size and engaged crowd to get a true idea on what material works. I don't know how you know if you have a winner, but over here if the dance floor is full and the barmaids are dancing in top of the bar you have made a good choice. Blue
 21.
Bobby Vega gets a very similar sound with a pick. http://youtu.be/MPzwuiJCSbs I reckon at least 70% of the slap sound is in the ghost notes/mutes. So it should be possible to get a similar effect using finger style.
Bobby Vega, That's nifty stuff. Blue
 22. It happens and it's why I never get to close to band members. Blue
 23. I think The Beatles catalog still sells reasonable well. I'm sure there are a few other iconish bands from the 60s & 70 that still sell and have stood the test of time at certain levels. Blue
 24.
Last band we supported was a Take That tribute who where vocals only, they asked for our requirements in advance even though they didn't need to engineer a whole band, the performers themselves helped with our sound and they even lent us thier radio mics. They where a top bunch of guys, who wanted us to sound the best we could.
Cool and rare. Blue
 25.
Anyone mentioned Queen with Adam Lambert?
Is Lambert an actual member of Queen? Blue
