1. The only time I see or have any level of communication withmy band members is at gigs. I think it's why the band is still together after 11 years. Blue
 2.
That's very generous considering you guys invented it.
We may have invented it, but you guys had a higher level of appreciation for it. The English introduced me to the blues, ironic but true. Blue
 3. I specifically looked for UK based bass sites because I have always been a fan of how and what the English have done with rock and roll. Pretty simple. Blue
 4.
Snark clip on. Accurate enough, and no need to have a lead to check tuning. I have a few and they've all been 100% reliable. Gave up on rack tuners as just a bit too much faff. Also, no extra cabling needed between guitar and amp (or amp and tuner if you use tuner out etc...)
I need to pick one of those up. However, after tuning it will have to be set off to the side. I don't want to mess with the integrity of the headstock design on any of my basses. Blue
 5. Korg Pitch Black since 2008. However, for me it was useless at outdoor gigs on sunny days. And I'm noticing the tracking on the E string is getting a little "dicey" Blue
 6. I always thought Laney was an affordable budget line amp. Did they ever have a reputation as a high end performance bass amp? Blue
 7.
Not for sub-£500 this side of the pond Also, being an L2500 player myself I wouldn't get one of these if it was a traditional jazz sound I was after
Agreed, a US Jazz minimum, I'm thinking $1,200.00. What about a Squire. A MIJ Squire would be nice and shouldn't be any more than $500.00 I have a couple of Fender Ps and a Jazz, my G&L and many others. I can't tell or hear a difference in any of them except for my collection of semi hollows. My German made Hofner Club bass definitely has a sound of it's own. Blue
 8. Bar owners on the circuit we play basically never offer musical opinions, suggestions or criticism. If they do the band will never hear about it, but you won't be re-booked. They have built up live music business with a pretty closed group of bands they book in rotation. Blue
 9.
Was thinking about this just this evening on the drive home. Two of my 'friends' must have played to a million people this year...not sure I envy them.
I do. Blue
 10.
Blue. Dont be so literal, its a generalisation, but also true. Most of the pro musicians got into it originally cos they loved music, and lots of them made money at it cos they were in the right place at the right time. I envy them. If I have to spell it out........, what it means is that aiming to have a lifelong, paying career, as a musician is one of the long shots in life. Wanting to play music and simply enjoying it for its own worth it is a goal that can be attained by most with some work.
I get where your coming from. I agree to an extent. I still reccomend playing music for it's own worth and for money at the same time. Blue
 11.
A wise man once said "If you get into music to make money you will be disappointed, If you get into music to make music you will be happy"
I disagree. There are many that are happy because they're playing music and in it to make music and also make money. Most pro musicians are not in it solely to make music. They have to make money as well. Blue
 12.
I try and speak to the bass player afterwards or at half time, but don't usually ask them if they're on here. Don't know why, it just hadn't occurred to me to do so. If we don't make the effort to tell bass players that they are appreciated, no one will! PS :And I have met some very nice people too!
I don't approach other musicians at bar gigs. Blue
 13. Oh well, it was one of those nights. Unbeknownst to us a bar down the street from the bar we played was closing, it was their last night open. They were disolving their inventory and all drinks were $1.00. Needless to say we didn't have much of a crowd. We usually pack this place. Blue
 14.
Hello everyone, This question is purely to ask for your take on what fee should be expected, I'm not prying or wanting an argument to follow. Basically, I moved to the NE and play bass in a 3 piece, the band performs well, PA, backdrop in place - nothing lacks. I joined 6 months ago or thereabouts, the charge no matter where we play is £210 which to me, is not good at all. I'm mid causing a little turmoil as I'm either in charge, playing the right places or I'm leaving and getting into a band that values itself, I'd prefer the former. Opinions please! Thank you, Lee
Agreed Blue
 15.
Worst gig?=.......Pub in the middle of nowhere. No audience. Just the bar staff. And a cab driver taking the numbers up to three briefly but apparently sent to the wrong pub. This is what can go wrong. Any thing else by comparison is welcome.
The bar in the middle of nowhere with no audience is a good example So is the owner that hires a band but his clientele has no interest in live music Blue
 16.
Whenever I go to see bands I wanna see some activity. If you've got a reasonably charismatic frontman/men then bass players can get away with Ox / Wyman type stillness. If the whole band is static, and also lacking banter, it makes for a dull night out for punters. Well I'm usually bored rigid. I want to see a show. I wouldn't expect Rammstein type theatrics but at least move about. I used to only ever play in funk and dance music bands and we always put performance ahead of showing how well we could play.
Agreed, you really need a convincing star out front that is naturally good at engaging the audience. It's not easy to find that sort of talent at the bar band level. Blue
 17.
And if they are visible ?
No, but I might post some other older vids where I still look like a "tool" on stage.😁 Blue
 18.
Isn't it on youtube? If not, why not?
Apparently YouTube frowns on humping invisible bears. Blue
 19.
Hello. I'm thinking about buying a Squire Strat. Was wondering if I can play through my Aguilar head and 212 cab.I'm not talking live, just practice at home. Is there any reason why I couldn't.?
You can't go wrong with a used Fender Blues Junior. Hottest little tube guitar amp on the market. Our lead guitarist uses one on big festival stage shows and the thing kicks arse. Blue
 20.
Still, how much money do you actually need after the first £20m anyway?
Another substantial £20m.😁 My great great grand kids can't be expected to work for a living. Fair is fair.😊 Blue
 21.
good video, thanks for posting
That clip is actually pretty good. Blue
 22.
I think we would all like to see this film of Blue with his invisible friend.
That's probably not going to happen 😁 Blue
 23.
How old are you ? That really needs to be taken into account, especially if you have relatives coming along. They may never talk to you again 😊.
Very good point. What a 20 something can pull off will be difficult if not impossible for a 63 year old. You guys know I'm a huge Jagger fan, now I'm seeing that he's getting to the end if his rope in term of all his creative free form interpretive dance. He's still pretty much a Dandy. And what type of physical condition your in also matters. If a guy is sporting a huge arse there's going to be some limitations. Blue
 24.
Got a band video shoot on Sunday which has got me looking at my stage moves whilst playing. I'm reasonably good at not standing like a statue and I'm no shoe gazer. I find getting the shoulders moving is the way to go but does anyone have any good tips for moving whilst playing and is anyone particularly adept at this. If you have video evidence it may help inspire me further.
I look like a "tool" in my bands videos. While playing I thought my moves looked cool. When I saw the video, I looked like an old guy humping an invisible bear. Blue
