1. I'm still interested I just don't have the funds at the moment, although I think I was going to talk to you about getting something padded to help my shoulder injury out. I'll be dropping you a line as soon as I have funds
 2. I didn't take this pic but it's the one I have [in my DP] but a clearer pic. Tanglewood Warrior 3... Such a beast!
 3. I'm the same with Fenders to be honest. Seen some gorgeous Fenders and had people I know adore them but whenever I've played one I've just been meh with it. So I'm agreeing with everyone here on the 'just don't get one' point. They look pretty but if you know you won't play it then it's pointless really.
 4.
I picked up a cheap Yamaha RBX 270F for around £90 as my entry point and then once bitten by the bug, went to an MIM Jazz, then a Vintage V1004SPFL before ending up with the current more exotic offerings. I had the Yammy for quite a few years and I remember it being nice and light and pretty decent quality too. You see them around every so often.
Might have a look out for the Vintage as well then, I've always liked Vintage because they're so light.
If you do, you may have to change the nut. I had an HB fretless, and the nut was for a fretted bass and way too high. Probably a cost-cutting thing... 107 you say?
I think it said 107 anyway. Thanks for the tip off though, I'm sure I can get it sorted out unless I find a Vintage as recommended above!
 5. This is a beast of a collection! Ooft!
 6.
Just do it, no quiver is complete without one.
I think I'm gonna! Been looking at the Harley Benton one. At 107 quid I can hardly say no can I?
 7. After playing one recently I want a fretless so bad.
 8. Just came across this woman on youtube, quite like her! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4PvlIOgYgs * side note just to add though, the only thing I don't like about these vids [and those of another woman I found] although you can tell they are playing, the track they are playing along to is louder than their bass so you can hear more of that than them. Otherwise, pretty cool player considering she's only 19 [possibly 16/17 in this vid, not sure]
 9.
This particular design is unpadded, because the width of the strap and the contour distributes the weight evenly over the player's body. As, such, the design isn't suited to padding. I can design a padded strap for you if you like. Email me [email protected] Karl
I'll drop you a line when I get back home That would be awesome
 10. I damaged my shoulders quite a while back & I hate using straps generally because I haven't found one padded enough to support my shoulders if that makes sense? If I have an unpadded nylon strap on my guitar it puts way too much pressure on my shoulders, aggravating an old injury so personally I'd be looking for padding and a lot of it. Some kind of memory foam type padding that would mould to the shoulder would be cool.
 11.
A number of people including myself are interested in the fretless jazz bass, but I'm not aware that anyone here has bought one yet. (If I'm wrong, someone please direct me to the thread). The few reviews on the Thomann site are complimentary. There's a guy on youtube called Hingstier who posts a lot of Harley Benton fretless bass clips on both acoustic and electric Harley Benton basses. He makes them sound ... like fretless basses. But his electric bass is the older version 'modern' HB fretless bass, and they've revamped their range recently. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RXUyLkYKWg
Yeah I watched this and I must admit I do like the sound. I'm gonna behave because I bought an Ibanez not too long ago and have noooo room for more but for the price I might well buy one eventually!
 12. This has just gotten me wanting the HB fretless even more. I just bought a new bass, I do NOT have room for more!
 13.
I avoid music shops generally because of the attitude you get in them.
Same! Went to a place in Newcastle once, can't for the life of me remember its name, not that I care cause I ain't going back but they literally wouldn't let my friend and I test any guitars before buying because we were women. Seriously, all over the blokes, fine for them to play, me my mate and another lass that came in, nope sorry, women can't play. Needless to say they didn't get my money and never will. I've not been to Wunjo but I did go to the Wembley Guitar Center the other week and those guys were bloody lovely. Might try Wunjo some time soon!
 14. Strangely I'd literally just been looking at Harley Benton fretless basses then came back on here and spotted this thread. I'm more after the electric bass myself, anyone had any luck with those ones?
 15. That's why I liked it. It was just so much easier and smoother to navigate. I need to behave because I just bought a new bass and I already have loads but I'm very tempted by one. *ok so not loads exactly but too many for the space I'm in lol
 16. Welcome my fellow Londoner! Same here, didn't play for yeeeeears, had the urge to start again. Welcome to the boat
 17. My brother has one of these and I've never played a fretless before. Seemed intimidated by them for some reason. I decided to be cheeky and have a go on my brothers fretless Fleetwood and oh my god. I regret never playing them it was so smooth!!! I think I'm converted to fretless I love it! Ooft!
 18.
Finger player here. I lean towards finger playing mainly because I have an incredibly weak grip. So I tend to drop off picks on the middle of the song. But I'm still persevering though as I find it easier to play some songs using a pick. And mainly because I try to copy Bobby Vega style. So yeah. Just give it a try. Another technique in the bag.
Another reason I don't play with a pick. I'm actually left handed but I can't play a left handed bass for the life of me, unfortunately that means my weakest hand is the one holding the pick & I spend more time dropping it than I do using it lol
 19.
Ditto, which, imo, largely justifies the existence of the topic and its contents. Must go; I've some listening and self-education to do.
This. I may have known a few female bass players but not as many as I do now. Hurrah for thread usefulness. Side note and sadly I can only find her playing one simple riff but when looking for a bass book for beginners [prefer using books, dunno why] I came across a woman named Sharon Ray... The riff was annoying after a while cause it's the only one I could find on bloody youtube but she's pretty cool.
 20.
I merely wished to make the point that, isn't it interesting that most people obviously have very different criteria for who would be their favourite female bass player than for who would be their preferred male one ? That is all, and surely that observation is germane to the point of this thread. And just let me clarify, the opposition is not between people who play simply and those who have " insane technical ability". It is between those who play badly and those who play well. That is not at all the same thing, and it is very wrong to make that assumption. Besides which, what's wrong with bickering ? Lets face it , without it , Basschat would be pretty slim pickings. You should have been here when we had it out about whether Stingrays are better than P Basses or whether roundwound strings are better than flatwounds ( they are).
I don't think playing simply means playing badly at all, a lot of people get that mixed up. But I just wanted to know personal opinions, not who was better than who. But fair play to you, it's spiced up the thread a little [have no idea on the Stingray vs P, never played em... Only ever used roundwound too so I can't say on that either! lol]
 21.
I ONLY play finger style. Can't play with a pick for toffee
<<< This. I've never been able to play with a pick to the point I'm marvelled by people who do. Eh, no harm in doing both! Variety is the spice of life as they say
 22. Already have a post in here showing off my Ibanez but I do love it. Madly in love with it's slim neck and somewhat entertained by its smooth sound. I was expecting a rough, ready for metal sound I don't know why, comes out with a lovely smooth tone. So nice. Pics are here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/241795-my-new-baby-is-here/
 23. Generally speaking I prefer short scale myself, usually the ones I go for purely based on the fact that I'm only 5ft1 and have really tiny hands. Don't usually find long scale comfortable because of my size.
 24.
Here you go..
Oh this is sexy!
 25.
Can folk stop this petty bickering? Back on topic please
This! ^^^ Guys, I asked who your fav female bass players were, not who you think plays bass better than who. Whether you like the simplicity [simple doesn't necessarily mean bad, regardless of what some may think] of Kim, or insane technical ability of someone who plays at crazy speed is irrelevant to this post. It was a simple enough question.
