1.
Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 strings are high tension (i.e. stiff) monel flatwounds. Is that what you mean? What makes you think old strings cause buzz?
Because it only does it when I haven't changed the strings for a really long time. The strings were fine at first but the older they got they started to buzz whenever I tried to play. Oh are the Jazz ones stiff? [yes those are the ones I mean] might pass on them and try Thunderbirds recommendation then. Thanks for letting me know that before I wasted money though
2. Ooh this is good! For me it would have to be. Alice Cooper - Welcome to my Nightmare Hole - Live Through This Dream Theatre - Metropolis pt2: Scenes From a Memory & The Pixies - Wave of Mutilation. I'm quite partial to KISS - Revenge album too.
3. Apologies for my camera's appalling quality but, oof!
4. 1995 Ibanez EXB 404. The guy I bought it from put in some new Wilkinson pickups before sending it over, not sure what strings he used but oof! It's been sanded down bar a little bit of blue cause the guys arm got too tired, my aim is to paint it metallic purple, hopefully with a marble effect. I haven't taken any pics yet but I'll post them on here as soon as I do! Eeee I'm excited!!
5.
I am a huge Rotosound fan but am currently enjoying the D'addario EXP strings so nice and soft on the fingers I was never a huge D'addario fan as I once tried there steels and did not get on with them but these EXP coated strings are lush and they are slightly lighter tension than Rotos but all I can say is buy a decent brand of strings as I experimented with lots of cheaper brand strings and most of them were rubbish
It's usually D'addario that I use! It's usually the XL Nickel Round Wound though, they feel a bit stiff so I might switch. I'm not actually sure which of my basses has Rotosound at the minute because I'm terrible for changing strings but I think it's the black one, I need to restring the Tanglewood more cause I don't really play the black one now, too big for me. Might have a look into EXP's! Thanks!
6.
Nah, s'alright..! What's a bit of embarrassment between buddies, eh..? I'd have done the same for you like a shot..! The important bit is to make Pixie feel at home.
I do that hehe
7. Hi! Welcome to the forum!
8. Thank you Allie! Hi!
9.
I was in a band who supported Julliette and the licks when they toured the UK a few years back. Great guys and a great bass player called Paul Lill. Had an awesome JPJ type custom made Jazz. It was surreal standing at a bar chatting to Juliette Lewis about General life stuff. I kept thinking 'Brad Pitt has nailed you' for some odd reason!! ; ) I also had the motor home scene off 'from dusk till dawn' going through my head! She was really really nice and friendly though.
I met Juliette years ago at a Licks signing, she is the cutest woman ever... She's also completely bonkers but that's why I love her. Robert Downey Jr has recorded a few tracks I think. He has an awesome voice.
10. Thanks for all the lovely warm welcomes here guys!
11. Thanks hon! Love it here already!
12. Good god some of these basses are sexy! I've always wanted a white bass, specifically a white Epiphone Thunderbird, however I tried playing one of those and bloody hell, they're massive and insanely heavy when you're dinky like me. So I never got one in the end. Bought a cheap Swift bass on eBay instead, need to get the jack fixed and might actually just get the pickups changed and customise it altogether. Nice and light in comparison to the Thunderbird though.
13.
Oh dear, I'm afraid that the host for those smileys has allowed the domain to lapse. Bugger..! Here's a makeshift 'Welcome' for now; I'll hunt up a better one for the next BC recruit...

Welcome to Basschat, like you I came back to bass after a long lay off, enjoy yourself on here and have fun John
Aw you guys! Hi!
14. Drum roll for the joke please! I'm hoping to get a lot better, nice to find I hadn't forgotten the odd Pixies song [thank you Kim Deal you simple godsend!] but there's still a lot I've forgotten. I tried guitar for a while but I was struggling way too much with it so I've stuck to bass again. I used to be on TalkBass forums but I can't for the life of me remember my name, I was young so it was no doubt something terrible lol. I do like forums though, I only know 1 bassist I speak to on a sort of semi-ish basis so it'll be nice to talk to some more like minded people.
15. As this is already a post on strings, I'm just gonna be cheeky and tag onto it rather than make a whole new post. I need to restring my Tanglewood, badly [it's buzzing when I play cause the strings are so old] and was after some Rotosound jazz strings. Are they flexible or pretty stiff? I've never used them but I'm pretty sure the strings I have on now are Rotosound, just not the jazz ones. When they're not old they sound great but they're a little stiff, I'm after something with a little more bend to it if that makes sense?
16.
But you'll bite us on request, right? Welcome to the forum.
If you behave haha hello all you lovely people!
17. Why thank you. That's pretty reassuring!
18. Hi! I'm a 27 year old woman from London, trying to get back into bass playing because stupidly, I stopped. I would have been playing for around 9 years now but I've just picked it up again [grr] so I'm back to newbie status. I still have my very first bass which I bought from a seller I found in the Yellow Pages of all places, we had dial up, internet was useless. It's not a brand name bass because it was made by the woman's husband for her which is pretty cool, way too big for me if I'm honest though. I also have a Swift and a Tanglewood Warrior 3 which is my baby, & I just ordered a 1995 Ibanez EXB 404 so I'm really excited to get that one. Hope to meet some new people here and learn some new things, come say hi, I don't bite
