1.
I've got one of the the Blue sparkle ones from 2009. Was actually one of the first to come into the UK...Bloody Marvelous! I've also put the new spb-4 pickup in mine (comes standard on the white one now)
The SPB-4 is a lovely pickup. Really, really, really nice dynamically.
 2. Might pick one of these up for the organization I mix for, saves us getting the awful Bass amp from the cupboard up. Good review as always Discreet, interested in one of these now.
 3.
I much prefer the old blue one IMO I think the West Ham logo on the front of the new one looks really cheap and tacky but might be OK for a football fan? I wonder if the new logo will get punters mouthing off at the player of this bass? because we all know football talk and beer=trouble lol
That's a good point, I didn't think of that when I ordered. My family has got some history with West Ham anyway, so that's not too bad and if I took it out live it would be for that reason!
 4. Got one of these coming tomorrow! Hearing these things is making the wait even worse!
 5.
Band logo's are a bit of a thing of the past arent they? it's a long time since I was scrawling Emperor and Mayhem onto my school text books...
That would be a great thing to do, if I could actually draw Emperor's and Mayhem's logo of course... OT: Sounds like you've got someone who's keen about this band idea. That's a good sign.
 6.
Anyone got hold of one yet? Thomann have the ETA at 7/8/15 and a price of €542 ~£376 at the moment... Having a bit of GAS for one of these through a Barefaced Retro Two 10
I was just about to post something similar, very interested in this.
 7.
The worst band I've ever seen live was Bad Manners- drunk, tuneless and shambolic, but my favourite ever band name was one I saw in the US, for an 80s tribute act - " A flock of assholes".
That is a cracking band name for sure!
 8. Wasn't born in the 80's but all my musical heritage comes from there. Maiden, Priest, Testament, Angel Witch and all the other bands I discovered when I was younger came from that era. I'm not that old but I feel old just mentioning Angel Witch!
 9. Wish I was nearer to this and not in the North East. Foxton was one of the bassists that got me into taking it seriously and not just following the guitars!
 10.
Ahem....
If anything that's an improvement!
 11.
It sounds to me like you have no idea what you want and are just listing a load of basses in your budget. You aren't going to get the answer you want on a forum.
Reading through the thread, I think you're right here.
 12. So I've got a Squier VM five string bass, which is going to be one of two college basses. I've already gigged with it and it feels sturdy enough and I've decided I want to change pickups in it, to give it some extra oomph. Was looking at the Dimarzio Ultra J set. But I've read things about how they might not fit all basses. Will they fit my Squier? What pickups would you guys recommend? I'm using my bass as a jack of all trades bass. With my band it's primarally older styled metal tones, so vintage sounding is always a good bet, but I will be playing a lot of different styles. From anything from Daft Punk, to the Foo Fighters and beyond. I am also using various different amps, (It was an Orange Crush 50 yesterday, but it can be anything) however my own personal rig is a Bass Terror into a Barefaced Super Compact. Many thanks for all the help.
 13. It's at the lower end of the range, but I really like the Squier VM fivers they've put out.
 14. If you've got any vocals to do, avoid dairy and anything syrupy. Bring gaffa tape/batteries/spare leads and a spare bass (If possible) to every gig, never know when something can go down. Have fun.
 15. Was it really that bad? I've not had a chance to catch up with any Glasto stuff yet. Been hearing awful things across the board though.
 16.
Hence i am thinking of buying a MIM Fender p bass Add sd pups badassII bridge and spray on royal blue metal flakes
When I worked it out, it was almost as much as an Arry, maybe it was just the prices I found but the prices were similar however. Also good luck finding a Badass 2 these days, word is they're getting harder and harder to get now.
 17. I'm having this dilemma also, the Arry bass looks lovely, but it seems overpriced from my perspective. I'd love one though. But since there's a lot of other options out there, I just think it's a bit much. That's all.
 18.
Does that mean that the organisers are not providing a P.A ? Will every band be asked to provide their own? If so that will not work! PA's are expensive, even if you go low end and second hand it's hundreds of pounds. You need more in formation. If they are asking the band to provide a PA and let all the other bands use it I would walk away. As a young band they will be keen to play,I would have been, but the festival organisers should provide a decent PA as a minimum. If they already owned a PA I would think differently, and they will need one to play their own gigs, but buying one just to play a battle of the bands at a festival is asking rather a lot I think.
Not having the PA is setting alarm bells off in my mind. It shows the organization isn't up to scratch or they're not bothered to put any effort in. Out of curiosity, have they been given tickets and asked to sell them?
 19.
I've got a real thing for this kind of metal lately, it's just all about the energy and people being able to join in. I've been trying to form a band around these lines for ages but finding the right vocalist is a sodding nightmare... Current Listens : Egypt Central Atreyu Adelitas Way
Took us months to find our vocalist. We've been through more members than Anthrax before we'd played to anybody though!
 20. Got an email back from Alex, he's saying he things the Super Compact would be good for me, is the midget similar? Thanks guys! May have to take you up on those offers! Been wanting to get to a NE Bass Bash, will probably get down when the next one happens!
 21. Just sent Alex an email actually! See what he says when he replies. Will have a look at the Mark Bass stuff now!
 22.
I'm in a pretty loud band - rock, metal & punk and I'm using a SuperTwin with a 500W head and it's a great cab. If I had boot space I'd have gone for the BigTwin. Just seen your post about budget and the St is ~£800, BT ~£1k.
Yeah, was looking at that, but I was really wanting Portability to be a factor, especially as I'm doing a lot more bass playing and would have to endeavour the joys of public transport
 23.
OK so next question is - whats your budget ?.
Up to about 700, ideally less. The Super Midget looks cool too, very portable. You get a good returns policy, so may take a chance on it. Gonna email Barefaced first though.
 24.
Then the Retro Six10 is for you...
Might be, but the cost is expensive!
