Take it home and leave it lying around. I have quite a collection of hard cases and gig bags lurking throughout the house, to fool the current mrs discreet and keep her confused. Some of 'em may have basses in and some of them may not. One or two may have basses in that she hasn't even seen...
Planning on doing this, for when I start getting stuff that's a bit higher in the range... My mum notices a new one, but I've started on P-basses in Red/White. My dad knows my bass collection inside out now so I can't use any of the newer ones for gigs however (He's got a habit of coming a long to everyone to support his top son)

Awesome find! Pics? -
Cool. Why is this your perfect P ?
It's really simple and I love the neck on it. Also, mirror pickguard. But I am gassing for a P-Bass and this is cheap enough, as something I can learn to mod with.

http://www.thomann.d...n_p_bass_ow.htm Anyone know anything about them? Can't really find much online minus a Fender video.
Well now I've got it into my head to get one of these... 100W (loud enough) 22kg (light enough - for an all-valve amp) and £275 (cheap enough). Yes I know it's ostensibly a guitar amp, but that doesn't bother me... and it'll have Thomann's 3-year warranty... http://www.thomann.d...60_infinium.htm
Woah, tempted. See how the 800 holds up tonight at rehearsal to see if that might be worth it.
Usually the Mrs telling me I can't buy another bass.
That's why you buy all of your basses in matching colours
Me too. Call me shallow, but I really can't stand sunburst finishes. No matter how good the instrument might be in all other respects, if it's sunburst I simply won't pick it up.
I'm not a fan of black myself!
Yeh - note, I mean this on new guitars, on seconds or older yes, I can sort it. If it has a bad cheese-grater action, how can I actually tell what it is like to play, it could be covering other problems? Knobs loose or out of line means noone really cared putting it together or out on the display, in which case, it could well be a dog.
Thanks for the clarification. This makes more sense now!
-
Badly setup / straight out of the box unsetup. Action like a cheesegrater, loose or uneven knobs. Thick necks.
Aside from thick necks, aren't all of those things you can sort?
Yeah Earache reissue for £16.50, and I did feel a pang of guilt knowing what a job Earache have done on them on this album... Still needed to buy it though.
Offtopic sorry, but I bought a Bolt Thrower reissue and heard that Earache weren't paying bands for the reissues. Any truth to this? Or am I hearing rumors?
You can get Rotosound Steve Harris signature flatwounds too..... btw i like your CAR 5 string P.S. i'll be changing mine to flatwounds soon
Yeah, heard about those, but the word is they go dead really quickly! Also: The CAR fiver is a cracking little bass. Gonna be my work horse for sure when we get playing suspect places!
-
So say you've just wandered into a store, played this beautiful bass but there's something about it that really puts you off it... What is that one thing?
-
I've just discovered I'm a P guy playing a gig. Got a 5 string VM P-Bass and that's not enough, getting a Mexican fender when I can though and going to add a Steve Harris pickup to it. SO I can have my own Arry model without the name. What sort of strings do you guys like on your P basses?

These three I can't listen too or find hard, because of subject matter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgrEwzhBc34 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3pK0x17DAk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fu2BNiwhaX8
Nice bass, is it Candy Cola or Candy Apple Red?
Candy Apple Red. Wasn't a good idea to change strings right before the gig though. Felt really alien to me!
-
so how did the acoustic set go?
Wasn't sh*te! Got fed up with him for opening with "Sorry but I've had bronchitis" before every song though.
Where's our gig report ? Was the after-party that good ?
Aha, apologies I've been wrecked all day due to being in London for two gigs a few days prior. Truthfully it was pretty good, getting people up to sing Electric Eye with us and finding that non metal crowds can at least appreciate us, plus they were getting into it too. Including some of the older crowd (Think older than my dad!) We've now got some pretty big things getting booked up because of this now and truthfully, it was completely worth it. People were saying we were easily the best band there also, including people who had came to see the other bands. Also: Photo's! All of them here though! (For some reason they didn't come through, any reason why they wouldn't?) https://www.facebook.com/Templarband Still slightly wrecked and can't really move my neck (Pain is going) so all the signs of a good night really!

Great for metalcore bands...

So, I don't know if anyone read my thread about last night, but I thought it would be awful. Tons of co-operation between the bands, made some friends and had a cute girl ask to stroke my beard. So it was a win all round. We played to a pretty full room and half the crowd vanished for the headliners. Not sure if that's a sign, but we had people calling out for one more song. Sometimes it makes the BS of organization and not having social media worth it. We are now supporting Risen Prophecy and Ruler who are on a European tour.
