Hey guys, looks like my band have a support slot in June with an up and coming Metal band. They've played Festivals and have featured in magazines like Terrorizer and Metal Hammer. I was going to think about getting some merch made for it, so we could potentially sell stuff and get the word out there. Has anyone done this before? What would the most cost effective approach be?

Using a JCM 800 head last night. Exactly my same thoughts as you, really sounds damn good. Weighed about the size of Jupiter though so can't see me gigging with it. Back to the OBT for me I think!

Thought I was GAS free until someone decided to send me a link for some Ibanez basses. No money though, maybe it's for the best however!
Yes the new models are supposed to have this problem resolved. If not, you can use an inline XLR attenuator adapter. And you don't need a cab connected to record, only full tube amps have that requirement (like the 15W guitar version of the Tiny Terror), this is a hybrid with a solid state power section and no output transformer.
I didn't realize this, my apologies for bad advice. Just searched a few threads on the Orange forum. Apparently it's not possible to DI straight from the amp. (I've just tried it with my OBT and it hasn't worked) E: Was referring to doing it without a cab. My mistake and error for wording.

You'd still need a cab to plug into as the amp requires a load. Also, there's a type of preamp tube that you could change it too as it's supposed to help, but I can't remember what it is of the top of my head though.
My answer in these threads has always been and always will be Mike Mills of R.E.M and Bruce Foxton of The Jam.
That one bassist who made me want to play bass. Will see him live one day I hope!
Mike Dirnt of Green Day often gets overlooked yet he has some great basslines under his belt.
Was about to post this, used to be really into him when I was much younger. Not so much now, but still underrated none the less.

Wonderful! Thank you! I'm assuming Guitar Guitar will stock both types?

Great advice. Thanks! I feel silly for not asking this sooner, but I've just received my bass terror and noticing the speaker outputs are a different type to what I've used before. What sort of type are these and where can I get some? Also are there any where one half of the cable is the type for the bass amp and the other is a standard jack so I can plug into a cab that's only a jack if needed (The rehersal places only have cabs that have 1/4 jack slots and not this bizarre alien type.

As someone that's had a little experience in this area, I think it's important to get someone that is at least knowledgeable, but most engineers should be experienced enough to know what they're doing. However if you're working with a producer that calls the shots on everything from what mics you use to placements and arrangements. I think it's best to get someone that understands what you do.

Lawnmower Deth are ace. Nothing beats a bit of Satan's Trampoline.

I love the Radial Bigshot.
Been asked many times on here naturally but the basics seems to be keep it simple, relax, prepare but don't tie yourself up with it and mostly have a great time and look forward the second one.
Yeah, thought it would have been. Should have specified in the OP that it was more about the electricity used and keeping you and your fellow bandmates safe if somewhere has potentially dangerous/unclean electricity. Maybe it's something slightly paranoid, but I've heard stories about people getting electrocuted onstage and I want to try and prevent that from happening.

Pretty new bassist and my first gig as a bassist. Any advice for a new gigging bassist?
Shogun is great, but not sure it's quite up there, I mean if you asked someone with a rudimentary grip of music to name a song by Iron Maiden.....Run to the Hills...or Metallica...Enter Sandman....these aren't ,in my opinion, these band s best songs by a looooong way, but they are bon fide classics that have allowed these bands to get to a level that is clearly way above any metal band since. To counter my own argument, Slipknot have managed to achieve a massive following and rightfully headline festivals ( also Rammstein, so perhaps I am just an old fart talking crap!!)
Maybe Trivium are just popular with a younger crowd I know a few younger than me that got into guitar playing because of that one album! What do I know however? I'm just a twenty one year old that should have been around in the 80's! OT: To the guy that mentioned Bloodshot Dawn. That first album is a cracking little album and it was a risky move giving it away for free with Terrorizer but it paid off bigtime. They were ace opening at Bloodstock last year. Evil Scarecrow are worth a watch live also.
Here's a related question though, there are obviously still some very good metal bands around, from all sub genres of the all encompassing "Metal" tag, but who is going to be the next BIG metal band....I mean Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, Anthrax, Slipknot style big, or is that an outdated idea, will there never be another metal band who is an instant headline choice at festivals, and who can sell out a few dates at Wembley? It looked a while back that Trivium were the heir apparents to Metallicas throne, but they never really had that seminal song/album that the old school metal bands did. I must admit that as I've got older I've leaned back more to heavy rock rather than metal, so not as up on the scene as I used to be,but still love an occassional dabble in extreme noise, and would hate for the genre to slip quietly away......
Shogun?
-
Looks lovely, how does it compare to the Vintage Modified Squiers?
-
Cool, got it. What would you do if there's an unmarked cab at a gig/rehersal? Set the ohmage switch to the lowest setting?
-
What I really really want is a great, original, powerful metal band....BUT with a singer who actually sings....not a grunt/screamer. Don't have to be all operatic, cos that gets on my nerves too, but Hetfield style, even some Anselmo stuff is great, but enough with the wierd noises!!!!
Neonfly if you like older styles of Metal.
-
Some great advice, just concerned because I saw an orange promotional video in which Doug Doppler claimed that it would do 500 Watts on either ohmage setting. I'm assuming that's when the cabs at 500W plus or am I wrong?
-
Use anyone except Hermes and Yodel. Also, I love stores using DPD but I think you need a business account to use them. Fisheth.
-
Not sure if.............this is the right place
Fisheth replied to karlfer's topic in General Discussion
Andertons have them at that price also! -
Cool helpful as always! I'll keep on hunting for cabs then!
-
Thanks guys, I just thought the OBT did 500 watts no matter what ohmage you were plugged into, or has that been proven to be hogwosh?
