  1. Update: An E string arrived today! D'Addario customer service sent a new one - from New York! I thought it would come from UK customer services. Very impressed. The string matches the other ones in looks and touch. Very happy.
  2. This hurts. A lot! Spent about 2 hours trying - and failing - to get a ticket on the day they were released. Was absolutely gutted. Given the frenzy over buying them, never even occurred to me that any would come up sale at a later date. Jeeeeeez. That’s up there with turning down a ticket for DC with Bon Scott saying I’ll catch them next time and there not being a next time. Except even then I’d sooner have seen Kate! I wanted a ticket but they all 'sold out' so I forgot about it until I watched the Kate Bush documentary on BBC4. I then really wanted to go. My wife reminded me that the tickets had sold out. That made me want a ticket even more. I told her I considered myself going until Kate had played her last show. I found out on one of the Kate Bush forums that tickets (unwanted press or not needed guest tickets) were often released in the afternoon and early morning. So I stayed up late until 3 and 4 in the morning. Got very close on a number of occasions. I tried this for a couple of weeks and one afternoon I got 'lucky'. My wife couldn't believe it. I just wouldn't accept 'no' for an answer. In the politest possible way. Interestingly, I've managed to get other tickets for 'sold out' shows too just by sheer tenacity. On another note, my mum famously turned down tickets to see The Beatles at the Hippodrome in Brighton because she 'didn't like creepy crawlies'. Go figure.
  3. First concert – David Bowie, Wembley Stadium, 1987 Last concert – Madness, Brighton Centre, 2018 Best concert – Kate Bush, Before the Dawn, Eventim Apollo, 2014 – didn’t expect to be going. Got a front row balcony face value ticket from the venue on the afternoon of the show and jumped on a train 20 minutes later. Amazing! Worst concert – Bob Dylan – Brighton Centre, 2002 and O2 London, 2009. Just bad. Thought the Brighton Centre gig might be a bad show so gave him another go a few years later. Still bad. Musicans were great. Singer wasn’t so hot. A shame as I love Bob! Loudest concert - They are all loud these days…or most things at Wembley Aircraft Hanger... Seen the most – David Bowie: Glass Spider 1987, Wembley Stadium; Sound and Vision, MK Bowl, 1990; Tin Machine, Brixton Academy, 1991; Outside, Wembley Arena, 1995; Earthling Tour, The Que Club 1997 and, A Reality Tour, Wembley Arena, 2003. Madness catching up though… Most surprising – Leonard Cohen, O2 Centre, 2008. Made a large venue into an intimate gig. Amazing. Next concert – Maybe Madness if they tour this year… Wish I would have seen – Apart from The Beatles (not going to happen) or the Kinks (unlikely to happen) – Tom Waits – could happen? Wish I could see again - David Bowie
  4. After trying a range of bass strings I have settled on D'Addario ETB92 tapewounds as my preferred choice on both my Jazz and Precision basses. I love 'em. They can can be mellow, but they also have some bite. They are easy on the fingers and on the frets (and fretboard if fretless). And they last a long, long time. So far, so good.

This weekend I put some new tapewounds on my Precision. The A, D and G strings were as I expected - smooth and just like the ones on my Jazz. However, the E string was different - it was rougher (I can feel the grooves) with some of the metal shining through. This is unlike the E string on my Jazz. What can I do?

Sorry - but they are very nice. I keep thinking about selling but then coming to my senses at the last minute. I think the necks are particularly comfortable. Pickups rather good, too.

  5. Sorry - realised that this is in the wrong section and should be in Accessories and Misc. Will D'Addario's UK customer service be able to help?
  6. Tapewounds are the way to go. Just saying...
  7. +1 for the Flea Jazz bass. As you say only thing that needs a bit of tlc are the fret ends. My Squier Matt Freeman P bass has neater ones but it too has rolled finger board. I’m really like Daddario tapewounds on the Flea at the moment:
  8. Maybe see if the Bass collection will do a signature Flowers Jazz or a Klaus Voorman P bass?
  9. Fair comment! I've now got nylon tape wounds on my Flea bass. Nearest I can get to a Herbie Flowers tribute bass!
  10. How does it compare to the Flea Jazz bass?
  11. Very lucky to have seen them on their last tour in the UK - Clockwork Angels. Brilliant. Got a ticket last minute, drove up and had a blast. My room mate at uni in the late 80s was a huge Rush fan and tried to get me into them (quite rightly) but I was having none of it. He had a huge Presto poster above his bed. He was at the O2 for the show as well but it was a bit trickier to meet up than I thought. I was in the cheap, vertical seats and he was downstairs. Ironically, my phone signal was rubbish.
  12. Thanks. PJ might be the way to go.
  13. Do any of the currently available Mustangs have both bridge and/or through body loading options for the strings?
  14. Nice.
  15. I thought going short scale would be a solution to my arthritis/tennis elbow and got a Mustang this year. It made it worse. It seems that a jazz neck is the best (for me) especially the u shape of the Flea Jazz. Horses for courses I guess.
  16. Still in. I think. A few pairs of strings - Daddario tapes for the Flea Jazz and last week EB Slinkies for the P Bass but got the wrong ones! Should have got super slinkies - so they are off and TI flats back on. Did get a Blackstar McFly thing but as gift through subscription with BGM. So doesn’t count.
  17. I really want one...
  18. I want one!
  19. Blackstar Fly 3 Bass Mini Amp - as new. Came as part of a subscription for BGM and not needed. Tried it to make sure it was working. Comes with the original packaging. Retails between £59-69. More info at: https://www.blackstaramps.com/uk/products/fly-3-bass Price includes UK delivery.
  20. Now that I have fewer basses I only need one gig bag - so moving this on. Carefully looked after. More details here: https://monocreators.com/products/sleeve-bass-guitar-case-black Price includes UK postage.
  21. SOLD. D'Addario ETB92M Tapewound 50-105 Medium Scale Bass Guitar Strings I bought these from Amazon for £45.99 last week to see what they were like on a string through short scale (Mustang bass). Nice. Not gigged, just played a little at home. £25 including postage.
  22. Update: gigbag still not arrived. DPD have tried to deliver it twice but still not followed instructions to leave with a neighbour if not in. ahhhhh!
