  1. Mine was around 6 months old when it failed but fair play to Line 6 who replaced it with a band new model. I've read somewhere that the electronics industry accepts a failure rate of between 2.5 and 5% of electronic products, so anywhere between 1 in 20 and 1 in 40. I guess it was my turn with my first Stomp. But considering the numbers of units sold, there still seem to be very few reports of failures so I don't think it's as perhaps a big an issue as you may be implying. All electronic devices contain hundreds, if not thousands of individual components, any one of which can fail at any time. Nothing electrical is immune to failure, unfortunately, and I'm sure there will also be failures of the new Boss unit too.
  2. And that's the second time you've mentioned issues with the build quality of the Stomp in the past couple of days, what have you heard?
  3. I couldn't find much online about it but there was a couple of people, (possibly on talk bass?) saying that they were quite noisy, especially the DI. Hopefully that was just an issue with some of the first batch off the production line that has been sorted out now as they are tempting for the price but there's still a couple of issues; 1, they look like they have just been ripped out of the bridge on the Battlestar Galactica. 2, it needs a 15v power supply, which I think is included but means I'd need 2 different power supplies to run it with my tuner and compressor which is a ball ache. 3, They've got a footprint of around a thousand hectares. Why? But I'm still deciding whether to take a punt for the money as I think that the two semi parametric mids would be very handy for shaping the sound of my short scales.
  4. Cheers @Teebs, let me know how you get on with it over the next few days if you would, my good man.

    Zoom MS60-B

Honestly, it's a great little pedal. As long as you're realistic about what to expect from a pedal that costs as little as it does and is a few years old now, then I think you'll be surprised. No, it's not going to fool anyone into thinking that you're playing through an SVT fridge but it'll make your bass sound like a bass! Which is what everyone other than bass players think - bass is just bass! The biggest limitations for me are a lack of control (most models just have 3 or 4 parameters) but it's got plenty of usable tones inside, along with a few turds just to remind you that it's a Zoom 😃 The limited interface has a 5 minute learning curve but is straightforward enough once you know what's what.

    Zoom MS60-B

@Rich yes, all 4 of those are in the little Zoom. Whether they're any good or not will depend on your expectations. I actually gigged my MS60B a few times last year after my Stomp blew up and I have to say that it did a great job, I'm not a big fx user so it was just a Fender Bassman model with a dbx compressor after it, but it sounded fine and the bass sat nicely in the mix. I was using it straight into the desk as we were using in ears. Nobody else in the band made a comment either way so they didn't notice anything was different. They'd have said something if they had. How close the amp & cab sims are to the real thing is debatable but they each sound different enough, the B15 model sounds warmer and more mid rich than the SVT model, for example. There's several different chorus models so you ought to be able to find something you like, my favourite being an old Boss something or other. There is also an Octave effect which seems to do what you'd expect, but Octaves aren't my thing so I couldn't say how it compares to the industry standard pedals. But in my humble opinion, it's a cracking little unit. The tones maybe aren't quite as high quality as something like the Helix but that doesn't automatically mean they crap or unusable. They certainly worked for me in a live setting.
  7. She should join, it's the best they've sounded since Master of Puppets.
  8. @dave_bass5 I seem think there's an option in the global settings that you need to switch for using the Stomp with headphones. I couldn't tell you what or where it is but I've got a vague recollection of reading something about it in the manual. Might be worth a quick read of the manual to check?
  9. If that's the tale that I related on the short scale preamp thread, it happened around 18 months ago. I may well have mentioned it at the time (I don't remember either way) so it's possible that you're counting the same tale twice, based my experience at least? I'm not aware of any other failures with the Stomp, but then again I've not been looking out for them. And fair play to Line 6 who gave me a brand new unit without question. Didn't you buy that Stomp used? In which case I suspect the original owner may have broken the USB port and sold the unit on while 'forgetting' to mention it, perhaps? If that was the case, it's not really fair to pin that on Line 6 when in it's possible that it was down to a ham fisted owner. I think it highly unlikely anyone would get structural failure using the Stomp on a gig unless they're supporting Barry White and the Weather Girls.
  10. Misery - Therapy? I'll follow the rules this time 😀
  11. Cheers @Teebs, that's one I've got my eye on too, so let me know what you think, please 😃
  12. I have a little MS-60B which is a great little unit, I might take a look at the newer models (can't remember the mode number off the top of my baldy head) to see if they offer a bit more control . Yes, it's a bit of luck to try to find something that works with the inherent short scale voicing. The Fender Downtown actually gets very close, if the mids were semi parametric it's pretty much be there for me as the drive is the sound that I like and the compressor is nothing special, but it's functional. Ah well, it's fun looking round the toy shop if nothing else
  13. That's interesting, where did you obtain that information? The one I had easily balanced between clean and drive sounds with no volume spikes.
