Purchased a DB Opera sub from Owen. Great guy to deal with, fast and friendly communication throughout the transaction. The sub was well packaged and arrived without a mark despite the best efforts of the courier to destroy it en-route. I can't recommend him enough! Thanks again, Sid.

Just received a mint condition TC Electronic RH450 amp from Alan. I cannot stress enough what a great guy he is to deal with - the description of the amp was totally accurate, prompt and courteous replies to communications, he was also very quick to dispatch the item too. A prefect and pain free transaction! Can't recommend him enough.

Hi folks, I'm thinking of possibly getting a 2nd amplifier to use when gigging in larger venues and want to know the easiest/best/most efficient way of doing so. My current rig consists of a TC Electronic Classic 450 into a 4 ohm Tecamp M212. I also have a Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout 8 ohm 1 x 12 that is used for rehearsing and smaller gigs. Obviously with the Tecamp being 4 ohm, I can't run a second cab with the TC. What I would like to do, if viable, is to effectively run 2 rigs at a time - with one amp powering the Tec and another powering the Boogie. So my question is, how best to do so? According to the TC manual, I can run a second TC amp by plugging the effects loop out of one into the effects loop return of another. However, what is not clear (to me, at least) is if this will effectively treat the second amp as a slave power amp, meaning that I can only control the volume? i.e. I will have no control over the eq or compressor? Having full control over the second amp is desirable, but probably not essential - I just want to know what the facts are before deciding whether to pursue this idea or not. If I were to run a signal from the effects loop out of one amp into the instrument input of a second, would that work? i.e. would the signal be strong enough or of the correct impedance? (Does the signal impedance even matter???). After years of trying all variety of amps and cabs, the gear I currently have gives me the sound that I want so I really don't want to have to change any of it. What I have in mind would be to get a second Classic 450, or maybe an RH450, and use that to drive the little Boogie cab while the first amp powers the Tecamp. Your thoughts, advice, input, derision etc. on this much appreciated. Sid.

Sam has just purchased a Line 6 LD150 combo from me. He is a genuine chap to deal with, he's honest, and he paid when he said he would. What more do you want from a buyer? I'd happily deal with him again Sid.

I bought an Electro Harmonix bass big muff pi from Andrew. There was no problem with the transaction at all, he was quick to respond to my message and just as quick to post the pedal off as a recorded delivery. It was well packaged too. I'd happily deal with him again, Sid.

TC electronic Classic 450 - sensitive volume control
Osiris replied to Osiris's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks for the replies folks, Charic - the Classic doesn't have a channel volume control, only gain and master as it's a single channel amp. Low End - I use a Tecamp M212 cab for most gigs (2 x 12, 4 ohm, 600 watts) and a Mesa Boogie radiator scout (1 x 12, 8 ohm, 300 watts) for rehearsals and small gigs. I've had the same volume issue with both cabs. Gareth - that's exactly how mine is, home practice volume until you hit 9 o'clock and then too loud to gig most venues. Mark - No, haven't contacted TC, though I'm tempted to. However, this does seem to be an issue with at least some of the TC amps. Might be worth a call to their technical support though. Sid. -
I'm using a TC electronic Classic 450 head and find the volume control can sometimes be right a pain in the bum to get the output level just right when gigging. Pretty much all amps I've used previously have a degree of control as you increase the volume but this thing seems to make big jumps in output when you give it the even the slightest tweak. To compensate, I've tried backing the gain off a little but this seems to have a similar effect - a small tweak of the gain with a much greater than expected drop in volume. I don't like to back the volume down on the bass either as the tone seems to suffer as the amp is not getting the full signal from the bass, plus when turning down between songs it's a pain to get the level back to exactly where you want it. I don't want to change the amp either as other than the volume control, it's the best amp I've ever used - it gives me the exact sound I want and the compressor is jaw droppingly perfect too. Having been gigging for about 25 years or so, I'd like to think that it's not a case of pilot error or doing something stupid...... I've tried all the obvious fault finding exercises, new batteries, different basses, different cabs and cables etc. but still the problem persists. Having spoken to a fellow Classic 450 user (Basschat's very own Adee) he has reported the same thing which makes me think that maybe this is an issue with the Classic 450 or maybe TC amps as a whole? I'm not entirely convinced that the amp actually has a fault, it's just that it can be bloody annoying - I played my last gig with the amp too loud and had spend the night tickling the strings instead of digging in, just to be able to play at the correct volume for the gig. Anyone else having a similar problem? I understand that there are different types of pots, some being logarithmic others being linear, although not being particularly electronically minded, I'm not entirely sure what the differences are between the types, but if I understand the concept correctly, could it be as simple as swapping the volume pot (which is presumably logarithmic?) for a liner one? Any help or suggestions much appreciated, Sid.

Alright Chorlton? I'm another basser from around your neck of the woods. I currently live in Wellingborough. And yes, I am married to my sister. I'll try and get along to check out your band and to say hello sometime.

I've had mixed experiences with PMT in Northampton over the years, it all depends on who you deal with on the day. They have had some genuinely helpful and knowledgeable staff work there since it opened a few years ago. Ben, who used to look after the drum section was a great bloke, as was ginger Jay who used to handle the bass shop - he was prone to talking out of his exhaust from time to time, but he was friendly enough and would always offer a sizeable discount - and seemed genuinely keen to help you out. The current line up of staff, however, are a disinterested and less than helpful bunch. Arrogant bald bloke spends much of his time being bald as well as arrogant. Emo boy seems to serve no other purpose than to stand about, constantly furrowing his brow a little, while simultaneously practising his pensive, moody expressions. The 2 of these wonderful people combined have the collective charisma of a radiator. The rest of the staff are instantly forgettable and seem to be as unhelpful as they are lacking in any real knowledge about what they're supposed to be selling.

Hi psychojoy, I have to be honest and say that I don't know if it will cut through the noise of 3 guitars and an energetic drummer - I've never used it in that kind of situation. That really doesn't help much does it? There's a lot of variables to take in to consideration; the sound you're after, the power and volume of the amps the guitarists use, just how energetic (loud) the drummer is, is there any PA support for the bass, the room you guys jam in etc. I'm not trying to be difficult, it's just that there's a whole load of factors to think about. It might cut it, it might not - I really don't know!! My guess is that if you want a bright, toppy sound that you'll probably be OK as your current amp can handle it, but if you want a gut rumbling low end at high volume, this probably isn't the beast to satisfy that. It does however have a speaker out socket so you can link it to a bigger cab - that will help with projection and volume, but you need to be aware that in order to link to another cab, you won't be able to use the in-built speaker as it only has one speaker out socket. Not a great design but that's how it is unfortunately. Ignore that, the combo does NOT have a speaker out socket - I thought it did, must have got confused with a different amp! Hope that this information helps - I just want to be sure that if you did end up buying the combo that you know what to expect and that it will do what you want it to - I'd hate for you to buy it and then be disappointed and/or blame me for selling you something that may not be what you need. Let me know what you think...... Sid. -

I bought a Mesa Boogie 1x12 Scout Bass Radiator Speaker Cab from Andy (Mr Zed) and as the others have commented above, he's a great bloke to deal with. The cab was in excellent condition as he'd described it. It was shipped very quickly - it would have been a next day delivery had I have been there to receive it! It was very well packaged and protected too, so the cab arrived in safe and sound with no wounds inflicted by a clumsy courier. Andy kept me informed every step of the way as to what was happening and he supplied the package shipping number too so that the delivery could be tracked via the couriers website (which unlike the one used by Parcel Farce, was actually accurate and regularly updated). Any questions I had were quickly responded to in a very helpful manner.
