What are you thinking of doing with the old bits? I'll take 'em off your hands, for a modest but negotiable consideration - I can always use vintage JapCrap odds & sods for my various projects & Frankensteins. J.
Jon - I think I'll keep the bits - you never know when that allen screw or bush will come in handy! I gigged the Asama tonight and it was very nice. i used it in a classic rock trio, and it sounds very throaty, like a precision but more bottomy with less mid. New strings on a maple board made for some real nice clanking. I intend to put a sound clip on, when I get the time. Col -
Art is what sets those of us who 'know' above the rest! Superb picture.

Nope - no identifying marks at all except for the logo. Nothing in the neck pocket/on the neck butt, nothing in the control cavity, the only place i haven't looked is under the pickups. Also, no serial number. I'm prob gonna gig her on saturday night so i'll let you know how she cuts it live! BTW, just ordered a new bridge and machines from Thomann to bring her up to the 21st century - the G tuner is pretty horrible, and the bridge is functional but v rusty and pitted. Col -
No personal experience, but they have a good reputation. The Fenix brand was built by Young Chang in Korea, alongside some very similar Squiers they were building for Fender. Understandably, Fender got a bit pissed by this & shut down the Fenix brand, which I guess makes them latter day "lawsuit" instruments. As a result, they can fetch some not bad prices on Ebay, and by all accounts are pretty decent instruments. Edit: A couple of Fenixes on t'Bay at the mo: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fenix-Precision-Styl...emZ180175371966 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/fenix-bass-jazz-copy...6464179QQihZ004 King Tut - sounds like a good score on the Asama (which according to one website, means "Fat Bottom" in Japanese! ) & looking forward to seeing some pics. J.
Here's the pics..... Looks quite unique to me - some nice maple on the neck with a bit of birdseye in places - whaddya reckon peeps!! Col -
Asama are best-known for their range of guitars & basses with built-in effects & electronics - I remember seeing an Asama Jazz like this on German Ebay, and a Google image search turns up effects-laden LP & Strat copies. The Blue Book says this: Anyway, the Crack Converters bass certainly sounds interesting - how much are they asking? Do you think they'd break your legs if you went back with a camera & got a picture? J.
OK - I've bought it for £65. It's Mahogany, maybe 3 pieces. I've got most of the bow out of the neck and set it up and it's.................pretty darn good. I'm working nights at the mo, so I'm a bit knackered, but as soon as i get time I'll get some pics and maybe a soundclip up. -

Reckon I'll be sticking with my Cube 100 for those smaller gigs!
-
I went today - and was very disappointed. tried 2 PJB combos - a 2 speaker one and a 4 speaker one. To be honest - my cube 30 was better than both and my cube 100 knocks them into a cocked hat. Nearly bought........... A Dean 8 string - GREAT price A G & L relic - early first series bass - loads of punch An Epiphone Allen Woody But managed to resist them all. I got peed off at the Zoom stand (love zoom fx) cos they've bought out a big geetar multi fx but not a bass one. Really narked cos I missed someone out of 'Muse' doing autographs. Food wasn't to 'rip offey' this year with a pastie for £2.50 parking has gone up to £8 Had a result buying 4 tickets off a tout for a fiver each ....result! And renewed my subscription to BGM No Peavey Boss stall wass tiny No Bass Centre - so no warwick or Markbass Bergantino cabs were AWESOME if not exactly lightweight - saw some dude slapping - and thought it was through a 4x 10 and 2 x 10 - in fact it was thru 2 1 x 12's I'll not go again - I'm sure it was smaller than last year, and last year was smaller than the year before.
-
I've got a Nemesis 2 x 10 combo that I like a lot - it doesn't like to be clipped though. In Milton keynes if you wanna try it out. May even sell for the right price!!

Anybody heard of an 'Asama'? There's one in my local crack converters - original body shape - looks like mahogany, and a P pckup with maple board - The neck is a bit bowed - but should tweak out OK - very unique looking bass! Tempted!
