Bass head with valve pre, what's good nowadays?
King Tut replied to andydye's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use one as main head with Stray and The Verity Bromham band. I’ve had the valve version for ages and just picked up the mosfet version, which was being knocked out at a stupid low price. I prefer the mosfet version and I couldn’t really imagine me ever needing more volume. Great little heads. -

I’ve got a 2016 4003 that I use with Stray. Build quality is absolutely faultless. Is the build quality thing something that affects mainly older Riks? Anyone out there had build quality problems with a Rik from say, the last ten years?

What he said, great amps. Alternatively, if you don’t mind weight and used, try a Hartke LH500 or 1000. Loads of heft and clean valve warmth. -
My trousers said no bit fortunately she said yes!

Just arrived home from Skegness where we was playing with the Verity/Bromham band. I kept things simple, Squier Jazz into a Zoom b1fourx (just compression) then into the house SVT Classic and 8x10. Best tone evaaaaaaah! We went down a storm and I won the prize for the lariest trousers. Even had a guy come up on stage and propose to his Girlfriend! Happy Daze!

I’ve had a few. The best one I’ve had was an American Standard with the S1 switch, sunburst with maple board. Wish I’d kept it. Second was an export model CIJ Sunburst/Rosewood export model. Currently enjoying my AVRI 64 reissue but a recently acquired MIC Classic Vibe in Inca silver is rapidly gaining respect!

Anyone ever refinished a bass in Tufcab?
King Tut replied to Paul S's topic in Repairs and Technical
The finish can be quite rough and sharp depending on how it's applied, so probably best to practice on some scrap before you start on the bass. -

I’ve thought about doing this to a cheapo, embedding stuff in the paint and turning it into a goth/steampunk type thing. Actually as typing I remembered it wasn’t tuffcab I was thinking about but a heavy duty non silicon based sealant. Can’t remember what it’s called now but used some recently to bodge a fix on a sink waste. Well impressed with the stuff! -

Wonder if they’ll bring one out with a glitter finish . . . . . . .

Our band leader, Del, was given some of their strats. He reckons they’re pretty decent for a budget guitar. He gave one away to an audience member when we played Alford and unbeknownst to us, the audience member turned out to be a luthier! Bit random!

J Retro - *SOLD*

Well this is designed to drop directly into a Jazz Bass so I would imagine the pot shafts are too short to fit through the wooden front of a bass. Other than that you just feed the pick-up wires into the screw terminals and solder the ground wire from the bridge onto the appropriate lug of the Jack socket. The hardest bit for me was squeezing it all into the cavity. If you look online you’ll be able to find the depth of cavity for it to fit ok. -

I bought this J-Retro from here recently on a whim. Having fitted it to a Bass Collection Jive Bass, I think I'm preferring a passive vibe, and my Sire V9 scratches my active itch, so I'm putting it back up for sale. Just looking to get most of my dosh back so want what I payed for it which is £115 inc UK postage. All works as it should, some swirls in the chrome but looks worse in the pics than it does in real life. Treat yourself for Crimbo!
