  1. I've just messaged the seller to ask if it comes with the original headstock and tuners 😂
  2. I've got the valve version and gig it regularly. I'll cut the bass on mine and hoof the volume to bring the tops through. I've got a large valve amp and a couple of Trace heads which I do gig occasionally, but I find the difference in terms of audio is negligible and what difference there might be is compensated by the convenience factor.
  3. I’ve recorded one on the new Stray album. I’ll let you know when it’s released! The bass is modded though so it’s not gonna sound like an original music master!
  4. Our keyboard player also plays in a band called Pearl Handled Revolver, a four piece band reminiscent of The Doors. He's a great player and fills the bottom end a treat but I still don't think, tonally, it comes close to sounding like a bass guitar. I can understand the advantages, and Simon is talented enough to pull it off but it doesn't sound like there's a bass player on the band.
  5. That'll be me then 😂 But let's face it, you don't need to be uber talented to play in a pro band. Sure you need to be competent, but other qualities come into play that are equally important such as reliability, dedication, being able to get on with other people, an innate ability to sleep through your keyboard player's snoring . . .
  6. Long established originals classic/blues rock band. I also do some deps with a function/pub band. Done lots of both over the years. Interesting to see the voting mix between original and covers currently standing equal!
  7. There’s been a bit of interest on this, but nothing’s come through. I could arrange weekday delivery to a railway station along the line that goes Euston, Northampton, Rugby, then on to Brum or Crewe. So bumpitty bump le bump.
  8. I’ve got a medium sized pedal board, about six or seven pedals inc a Zoom B1fourx. I’ve recently programmed the zoom to do most of the stuff that the pedals do. Last weekend I rehearsed with no radio and just the zoom - wow what a difference. I definitely can’t do without the zoom but I think Less is more for the time being for me.
  9. That does look like a lot of bass for the money and I’m only up the road. Shame I’m trying to cut down. GLWTS fella!
  10. That's blooming shocking. And they wonder why people take the law into their own hands!
  11. I've got the head version of this and sometimes gig it with Stray. Have a look inside and see if the power section is marked 'The Bi Polar Bear'. If it is then there could be trouble ahead. At the very least ensure that the ground connection is firmly attached to the chassis with a star washer. Ideally look on the internet for bi polar bear and Clive Button mod. Take the info to an amp tech and get him to carry out the mod. If I'm talking about the wrong amp, then ignore the above and fetch me my Horlicks!
  12. I've used the Eden cabs before and they're great. Just bear in mind though, if you lose a speaker (as I have) you'll struggle to find a replacement (I haven't found one) since Eden fizzled out. There'll be loads to suit your budget though, especially if you buy used.
  13. I sold an Ashdown head to Chris yesterday. We arranged a fairly long distance meetup. Comms was good and all went according to plan. Deal with confidence!
  14. To be fair, mine had an aftermarket plate on it when I received it, but I’ve seen so many reports of microphonic pups on these it makes me wonder if they’re all a tight fit!
  15. OK - no response to this, but for the benefit of anyone who has the same problem, I offer a solution. I took the bass to my Luthier for a set up and to look at the pickup. He's set it up lovely with TI Jazz flats. He told me the pickups are already potted but suggested the finger noise may be because the pickups were a really tight fit in the scratchplate. He told me that not only does this help the sound transmit from the scratchplate to the pickup, but also, squeezing the case onto the windings increases the pups microphonics. So he's filed out the pickup holes in the scratchplate and - hey presto - problem solved! With regard the pickup, i really like the sound with the tone rolled off. Fully open it sounds kind of glassy which I'm not overly keen on, but pull a bit of top off and actually, I reckon it sounds ok!
  16. I'd come with you but i've got Covid!
  17. I've got one similar to this but with the hard case rather than the bag. Be warned that the hard cases aren't really road worthy, maybe ok for the boot of your car but if they're being put in the back of a band van or similar they're not really all that tough. I find board solid enough though. I'm actually trying to downsize and just go back to a wireless receiver and a Zoom B14x
