Provided much mirth in our band!

Thanks Merton. The sub harmonic generator wasn't switched in but the deep switch was. I've messed about at home with the pre and found I could drive it a bit harder than I was before it clips. I won't be using it on Saturday but will prob take it to a couple of dates on our Feb tour to see how I get on!

Surprised no comments on this - anyone got any thoughts - particularly on the volume?
-
Despite the power rating claims - and that's been done to death elsewhere, make no mistake that these are bloody loud amps. I'm using mine regularly with Stray who aren't exactly a quiet bunch of shrinking violets, and the volume on tap is ample.

I'm happy!

600. It's 220, 600 and 2.5 khz on the valve one. And I'm already pushing the mids a bit on my VT Bass pedal. It obviously depends what you're aiming for. I'm looking for a big old school overdriven valve amp sound without the faff!

Just used mine at rehearsal and wound the mids up full with the selector in the middle position. Sounded bloody fab. Next trip out for it will be Giants of Rock next Saturday.

Beautiful. My first bass was one of these and if I can find a decent o e at the right price I'll snap it up!

Yeah thursday night - tickets in advance or on the door. Wow, would be glad to welcome a basschat posse!

Thanks Al. Funny abut the recording, a guy called Alex Cohen (Alex Humbug) approached us at the gig and asked if he could record it. His hobby is recording/collecting/trading live band recordings. He set up at the back of the room with a pair of mics into a portable recorder and did his stuff. Our keyboard player sprinkled some magic dust on it afterwards and voila!. We're co-headling The Garage with Ken Pustelnik's Groundhogs on 12 March!

Here's Stray at The 100 Club with 'I Believe It'. Bass isn't very clear in the mix but I'm using a Bugera Veyron T

Love the maple board!

Tempted even though I've got a valve one!

Love mine!

I used to use a pair for gigging. Really nice. I sold one and now use the other under a BF Big Baby. Probably overkill to be honest. I'd only use one for tiny venues.

So, what music related gifts did we all get today?

A Harley Benton D Seed delay pedal, a Comfort Strapp and a subscription to Classic Rock magazine. Happy Colin! -
It's interesting where this thread has gone and I've had a thought relating to 'old being better' in terms of 'actual old' rather then older designs. I personally get a kick out of gigging cheap basses occasionally, although with Stray I always use a Ricky for the Stray set and either a Rick or a Fender for the Blues Devils stuff. This is mainly to do with the Punters expectations and the fact that Stray's original bass player used a Rick, and my desire to present a pro approach by using what is seen as pro gear. Having said that, when I was playing covers I'd often happily use a cheaper bass which did the job just as well. Even now I'll occasionally take my Ibanez BTB30 out as my spare. With regard to actual old basses, I think there's a mystique that somehow the magic of all its previous players, previous gigs and previous experiences may somehow seep through the ether and improve the players' performance. Certainly if an old instrument is still in circulation, then it's proof itself that it's stood the test of time and is probably a good player because it's still in use. There's no rights and wrongs here - I'd love to try one of these Harleybackers but I have waaaay to much stuff!! Much love to all x

I hate the Vic club with a vengeance. Buggered my arm up helping load a sub down those stairs. Ended up turning gigs down there.

Doh!

So I've learned from this thread that most lighty up amps are lit by LEDs and not valves and that preamp valves don't usually glow. Thanks fellas. Anyone else out there rocking a Veyron T at the moment?

It's described as hollow in the description. Body wood is Mahogany which would probably make it quite a dark sounding bass, so not s Rik soundalike!
