I've recently bought a lovely American Pro Jazz from hereabouts. I'm really happy with it but I'm struggling to get my head around the pickups and I'm wondering what other peoples thoughts are. For those that don't know, each pickup has 'Alnico 2' poles for two strings and 'Alnico 5' for the other two. I have to say, they really do have a nice equal response across the neck. The output is quite low, even with them adjusted up, so much so that I pretty much have to dime the input on my MXR Compressor. I've found they have lots of top end, so much so that I only have to open the tone control a gnats to get all the bite I need. They're also quite mid prominent although in a nicely rounded way. Additionally, I find that the bridge tone, while usually being quite different to the neck tone actually sounds pretty similar with these. I've done a handful of gigs and a rehearsal with it and I just can't make up my mind whether or not I like them. For context, on my older Jazz, I had SD Quarter Pounders which I really like, so I guess that's what I'm comparing them to. Anyway, in the interests of sub sonic sperimentation, I've ordered a set of Entwistle Pups that arrive tomorrow! What are your experience of these pickups dear bass Fellowes?

I purchased a Barefaced Supertwin from @JGSpector James yesterday. He lives locally to me so it was easy to organise. Product was immaculate and as described. James is a Gent, deal with confidence!

Installing Dunlop Straplocks on a Warwick Thumb

I use Dunlops on all my basses but my thumb has its own strap with the Schallers on. It’s an old one so I don’t really want to make it unoriginal. -

Glowtec Neck Dots…..Or Alternatives For The Hard Of Sight?
King Tut replied to spongebob's topic in Accessories and Misc
I’ve used both luminary and Glowtech. They both work well. If I’d discovered Glowtech before Luminlay I’d have used glowtech exclusively, mainly down to the lack of faff! A small set of tweezers are your friend for application. I used some of the extra stickers on my phone so I can find it in the dark! -

I’ve got a couple of gigs coming up with Stray on 5/6 October. On the 5th we’re headlining Cornwall Rocks at Tencreek Holiday Park in Looe, then the following morning we’ll be trucking over to Chelmsford’s Hot Box Live. Doors at 3pm for this one but may not be on until five ish depending on the journey.

That’s certainly a looker. The new headstock design is a massive improvement over the old Sires- I wonder if it’ll be introduced on their other basses. I reckon their sales will increase if they do, that old headstock design is proper fugly! Congrats

I bought Pete's Jazz Bass today. We did a long distance meet up at Nottingham, Halfway between MK and Leeds. Great comms, bass as described and and easy deal to do! Deal with confidence!

Back in the day jamming on acid, endless repetitions of Em to Cmaj7 sounded soooooo good until you listened back to it. Never forget the night on mushies and tequila where we were trying to count the amount of little red lights we had on all the gear we had set up!

A couple of gigs for me this coming weekend - on Saturday STRAY will be be playing at Leo’s in Gravesend. On Sunday Del, Karlos and I will be gigging as The Del Bromham Band at The Tropic in Ruislip doing some of Del’s solo stuff, the odd cover and maybe a few Stray numbers.
