3. Hi mate, can I have first dibs on this pls PROVIDED the neck pocket is the right size? I should think it will be as I'm planning to mate it with a mighty mite neck. Where are you based? Colin
4. After 12 years of regular gigging with my band, The Curvy Love Dogz! we played our last pub gig last night and went out with a blast. We were a trio and I was fronting on vocals and bass. Had the same line up for twelve years except for about a year when the drummer went pro and took a year out. This was very much my baby. I organised, did the PA and lights, bookings, website. lemonrock, Facebook, the whole shebang. We're still going to take function bookings if i can achieve a decent fee but I've just had enough of all the work that goes into running a band. I don't envisage doing any more than a handful of gigs a year from now on. Although we've had some fabulous gigs, I've really got to the point where I've felt I'm going through the motions. I'm pretty lively on stage for an oldish geezer and when we do a two gig weekend, it takes so much out of me, I pretty much write the weekend off, despite keeping myself relatively fit. I also take it all so personally, when one of the other guys can't do a gig (constant source of stress as the drummer plays in another band) or we have a bad gig or get criticised etc etc that I get really stressed out about it. Being in alcohol recovery, I really need to keep life as stress free as possible. I've also managed to rebuild my marriage, and to some extent my family after a sh*tty break up, and I think that splitting the band can only be good for that. Lots of our fans have begged me to keep the band going, and the other two guys aren't exactly chuffed about me splitting the band up. Having said that, outside of the gig, despite constant comments from me they wouldn't help in any way shape or form with the running of the band. I've had to do what's right for me, and although I care for the other guys, I don't think I'm responsible for their musical careers. I think this year, we've been the best we've ever been, and do you know what? I'd rather go out on a high, than start to bicker and seethe with resentments all the time and end up falling out. I've joined another band - Isabelle - where I'm just playing bass and singing BV's. They probably gig about half as much as The Curvyz, so I can continue playing, and contribute to the organisation, without having to take everything on. So - the end of an era for me. Just felt I needed to get that off my chest! Happy New year to you all!.
5. The clips on the male singer's braces aren't even. It's playing havoc with my OCD!
6. Had a quick look at this and did a quick double take when I saw Chris on drums. He's been my regular dep over the last year or so. Great bloke n great drummer! Ooh and nice vid!
7.
I like Ashdowns. My first Ashdown was a EB150 combo, which I liked the sound of so much I then bought an ABM 500 head, which I liked the sound of so much I then bought a MiBass 550. I still have the MiBass but my main head is now a GK 500. I bought the GK because it is VERY, VERY loud. The ABM and the MiBass can't compete with the decibels the GK puts out but I still like the Ashdown sound.
I've also been using a GK mb500 as my main amp with a mibass 550 as back up. While the GK is significantly louder, the Ashdown has an eq to die for, really versatile. I used it at rehearsal a while ago through a BF big baby 2 and remarked at the time it was the best tone I'd ever had. Really versatile with three of the four bands parametric. I think what helped was that the BF cabs are so sensitive. With quieter cabs, the trick with the mibass is to set the master volume to max, then set your stage volume by using the gain control. I did try it out in the house recently using the mibass as a pre running through one of the Behringer inuke power amps. That sounded pretty bloody decent but a bit of a palava for gigs. Recent acquisition of a Markbass SA450 from these very pages has finalised my rig as I've now got power AND a flexible eq, so that's racked up with my GK in a 3 unit rack, with the GK acting as a spare. In front of that I just use Zoom's bargain B1xon with about five presets that I flick through for the sounds I need into either the Big Baby or BF 410 depending on the load in. Seems I'm finally sorted!
8. Bought a Markbass SA450 from Jonny. Due to us both being away, it wasn't a straightforward 'post it tomorrow' job. Despite this, communication was fine with messages responded to promptly. Tracking from courier didn't work, and Jonny couldn't do enough to check progress. After a quick text, he'd contacted the courier and established a one hour delivery slot. The amp arrived well packaged and as described for a fair price. My buying experience from Jonny was very positive, and based on this you shouldn't hesitate to do business with him :-)
9. On an active bass, there's usually three tags on the socket that have wires attached to them - I think the sockets are stereo sockets? Mostly - they're fully enclosed, so how on earth do you decide which wire to solder onto which lug?
10. I have one identical to that. It was the bass I owned when I first started to gig. I sold it years later to RickWakeman's Alan, who sometimes plays sax for us, then bought it back off him. It doesn't see much use at the moment but I'm planning to drop a Glokenclang eq in there and restring and start taking it as a spare, or main bass for tighter stages. Light, comfy, great sound and as has been said, loads of sustain. Only issue for me is the short top horn which puts the bass in a different position on your body to a Fender and sticks the neck out about two frets further to the left.
11. Bought a barefaced 4 x 10 from Lozz. Great price, as described and a hospitable welcome! Deal with confidence!
12. Just bought some tuners from Cameltoe. They were sent promptly, as described and well packed. Deal with confidence.
13. Welcome Rich. There's a bit of a community here in MK. Which band are you in? Colin
14. This Saturday night - a home gig for us - always a fab evening!
15.
Wish I'd been there...
I was there. Wish I could remember it!
16. I have a set of long scale Thomastic Jazz Flats that I want to put on a Bronco. Any reason I can't cut them to length and use?
17. SOLD Eden Nemesis N410RS Bass Cabinet for sale. SOLD This is in well used condition but fully functional. There's a slight 'chip' out of the carpet about 5mm round on the top front edge - can be seen in pics and some rust around the handles. 4 Ohms - 500 Watt I've used this for plenty of outdoor gigs with a loud drummer and always been more than enough. I'm looking for £150 collected from sunny Milton Keynes. Sorry - not interested in couriering or trades.Price drop £125.
