6. Pay to gig? Get out of here - peeps should receive payment for gigging.
7. Yeah - I've a soft spot as well. I've got a Jap one which is really nice though tbh I hardly ever play it. If the happy bunny was more local - I'd try it and probably fall in love with it! Does look a good price though. Have a bump.
8. Where are you based mate?
9. Lovely looker - where did you get the 'pickguardian' from?
10.
Swap with the OP.
Yup - I'd be up for that!!
11. I seem to remember reading an article about Trevor Bolder - who played bass with Bowie and was one of the 'Spiders'. He played an old P with a J pickup added - but only played the J pickup - the P pickup didn't work. I play a lot with just the bridge pickup - but i still like to use the neck for a more deep and rounded tone - but it's obviously your call - if that's the only tone you need - go for it!
12. PM'd dude!
13. I've got one of these and it's incredibly loud and punchy - seldom need to add to it to be honest! Free bump!
14. WTF is a 'desert rock' player???!!
15. Thanks for your comments guys - but have you actuall tried this - I think some experiments (Lfalex) are the way to go!
16.
I have a "cheaper" basswood MIJ P, apparently. From what I have been able to find out, there is nothing wrong with basswood, providing you don't want a natural finish and don't intend to use it in a fight. Tone is warm, sustain is good and it is relatively light in weight. Fit and finish on the bass is excellent, hardware looks to be of decent quality, frets are substantial. Nobody ever says anything nice about my playing, but lots of people have said nice things about the sound of my bass. Objectively, it is way, way better than my daughter's ex-boyfriend's Squier P and quite bit better than my MIM Jazz. I have no idea how in compares with anything MIA, but you would have to offer me something very special to get it off me in a trade.
Agreed - absolutely nothing wrong with basswood - it's not ALWAYS light though! I've got a CIJ basswood jazz which is just lovely to play and listen to. Ironically , the (sunburst) body is quite plain, but the neck is one of the most beautiful I've seen!
17. It's a bargain - have a free bump!
18. I bought a lovely old P a while ago from Beedster. Trouble is the bridge wasn't original and i wanted a bridge cover. I've bought a reissue vintage bridge and bridge cover ,but of course - they're all shiny. Anyone got any tricks to make them look more 'used' and tarnished. OK - I know the bridge will be under the cover and no one'll be able to see it - that's just me!
19. There's a thread on here about Norman Watt - Roys setup - using a (Ithink) mark 6 - it's all mids boosted - totally un smiley face. He sounds farking awesome live.
20. Where are you based?
21.
I don't think a new nut will make a huge difference to be honest if the old one is fine, just wait til it wears out. Also that looks pretty nice, i've always liked 3TS jazzes without pickguards, very jaco-ish. I'm GASing for a jazz right now too... grr
+1 on the nut - remember a new nut will only contribute to the tone when you play open strings.
22. WellI'm def not buying it now as I've just bought a spanking new mapleglo 4003!
23.
I'm still a complete bowing amateur but have a french bow, simply because that's what the shop had! I am learning French grip but have fiddled with German - to be honest, I don't know what I'm doing well enough to have a preference yet
Snap - but I went German!
