3. Damn, If it was passive, I'd be all over it.....
4. And I bought it from him Great guy to deal with, smooth and hassle free. Karl
5. After much deliberation, I've decided to sell my custom Jazz bass. I need the funds to build another. I gave this a lof of thought before putting it together. The hardware, body colour and scratchplate were all planned a long time in advance. I wanted a certain look and feel to it. I'm just looking to get my money back, I spent £1,200.00 building this bass. Looking for that amount, plus shipping. The neck is a brand new Status Graphite 4 string, with the factory option of the satin matte finish on the back. This gives the neck a lovely, smooth warm feel. Silky smooth. The fretboard radius is 16" Nice low action, no buzzing or dead notes anywhere. The trussrod works smoothly both ways. The body is a one piece light alder. Lovely grain and figuring. The finish is Melamine lacquer, very thin and hard, by the amazing Dave Wilson. The body is very resonant and very musical, even acoustically. The most vibrant and lively bass I've played. The colour can best be described as 'Maple Syrup', tawny amber, but not orangey. The lacquer is transparent and the grain can be clearly seen over the whole body. The scratchplate is custom made to my design from a lovely, lively but tasteful, brown tiger pearloid. Shimmers. The pickups are SME, hand wound in Texas, and are bright and clear. The tone is very woody, with an open, airy quality. beautiful tone and clarity, with plenty of punch. I had the output jack side mounted as I like it better. The neck is held by a 'Wudtone' stainless steel neckplate. very, very strong and stable. The tuners are Schaller, as are the knobs and straplock studs. The bridge is a Schaller 3D4 and is finished, along with all the other hardware in their 'Vintage Copper'. The control plate is made from 2mm sheet copper by hand. Controls are volume, volume, tone. The bass weighs exactly 9 Pounds and comes with a hardshell case. I'll ship but at buyer's risk. Email me for larger versions of the pictures. 6. Just finished this. My Jazz with a one piece Alder body, finished in a lovely maple syrup coloured lacquer by Dave Wilson. The neck is by Status Graphite, the pickups are SME hand wound, the pickguard is a brilliant material by Boston and was made to my template by Jack's Instrument Services. I made the copper control plate and side jack cover plate. The hardware is all Schaller vintage copper. Sounds amazing.
7. Yeah, that's me that is. I just finished a J Bass and fitted it out with Schaller hardware all in their vintage copper finish. Looks lovely. I hand made the control plate and side jack plate in copper sheet, then aged/patinated it dark. I think it would have gone really well on this when it was still in the driftwood state.
8. I like it as it is, very 'Rat Rod'
9. Yep, the nut width is 38mm. The bass is now on Ebay UK. item number 271921714977
10. Ebay today then. Thanks, Karl
11. Pre-Ebay price drop: £499.00 shipped in the UK No takers, then off to Ebay Sunday. Karl 0208 575 7550 [email protected]
12. Thanks. My scale says just shy of 9 lbs
13. Quick update. I bought a Phil Jones Combo, so am no longer looking for trades. I am still interested in the bass going to a good home. I'll listen to reasonable offers. Karl
14. Thanks very much. It's a beaut to play, real vintage vibe, but with a contemporary feel. I had always wondered about graphite necks, but it sounds amazingly woody and warm, but very clear. I'm sold on graphite now. I just had another bass finished for me by David Wilson in Acomb. This new one has a one piece Alder body and a graphite neck. Have to make room.... Karl
15. The body was sanded to 800 grit, then waxed, buffed in, then left to dry for a week before buffing out. Feels like no finish, smooth, dry, warm wood. Makes the sound really airy and open, you can feel the body ringing when you play. Karl
16. This is my Status neck Jazz bass. I'll have this here until Sunday, then off the Fleabay The body is a stripped Fender 62 Roadworn 2 piece Alder body. The neck is a genuine Status graphite, carbon fibre weave. The control plate, stack pots and wiring are by Madison's, the pickups are genuine Fender USA 62 AVRI. Gotoh 201 bridge. Fender Tort scratchplate. The tuners are Schaller/Fender. The neckplate is a Stainless steel Wudtone, incredibly strong and solid. Action on the E at the 12th fret is about 2mm, bottom of string to top of fret. I like this height. It can go lower, as there's loads left in the bridge, and the trussrod works perfectly. No fretwear. The body has assorted character wear from when it was a 62 Roadworn. You can see there are a few filled screwholes from the previous Tuner mountings, and I repaired a couple of minor dinks on the back of the stock. The front of the headstock is pristine. I stripped the finish to let the Alder ring. it worked, this is the most 'musical' bass I've ever played. It's clear, open and articulate, and very woody. Just sings. It comes with a hardshell case. Price of £599.00 includes UK mainland shipping. Interested in cash or a really good Phil Jones combo. Call with questions: 0208 575 7550 Cheers, Karl
17. Hi everyone, I have a Phil Jones Bighead en route. I was wondering if the Phil Jones PB 100 powered extension cab would be compatible with it. I just plan on noodling at home, not for performance. Has anyone used this combination? Is there any reason I wouldn't be able to use them together? Many thanks in advance, please pardon my ignorance Karl
18. Another thumbs up for Dave Wilson in Hexham. Brilliant in every way. Karl
19. I just worry that you wouldn't mention the damage, and would then describe a damaged item as 'Perfect'. It honestly just makes me wonder what else is wrong with it..... Karl
20. Perfect condition? Really? Isn't that a rather large dent/cut in the covering material to the rght of the top speaker? There's also a dink on the front at the bottom edge. 'Pefect condition'? Karl
21. If you'd consider shipping it, I'd consider buying it I'm in London. I'd love the amp, but can't come to Leeds... Cheers, Karl
