Ironically they'll be even better pushed by your SVT5 bridged - because they were designed to handle tons of power and go damned loud and move lots of air for their size. The lightweight thing was a 'why not?' rather than a 'must have'! I've never really cared much about the size/weight of my own rigs.
It'd be used for both amps so win.
 2.
the best marshall bass amps are the guitar amps
Agreed like Gibson sh*t when it comes to bass. I had a JCM900 a while back great amp but all their bass stuff is rubbish.
 3.
It's always a point missed in these threads that in the same way someone who likes an Ampeg won't automatically like all valve amps not all class D amp fans like all class D amps, I'm not fussed for MarkBass gear for example.
Indeed give me a Marshall valve amp and I'll give you several pieces of a Marshall valve amp.
 4.
i've just seen this. i've owned two ABM's. i'm not into them. i wish i was because i believe in supporting British brands as much as i can.
Superfly sounds best when thrown out of a car window.
 5.
For the cabs - well you can guess what I think...
Ampeg 8X10 I may well look at BF after I have the RH450.
 6.
i'm only aware of one which is the MarkBass Classic 300. chrismuzz. what i want is punch and bark. i've never gotten that from a SS or hybrid head.
Have you tried this?
 7.
Are you trying to tell me a lightweight valve amp wont sound as good as a 3 tonne valve amp? & if a lightweight valve or solid state amp sounds just as good as it's heavy contemporary, then being light gives it that +1 better.
Unless you have a helium based cab.
 8.
Can I suggest a small fold up trolley from Screwfix for about £30? That's for transporting the amp - not playing through - they sound rubbish. That way you can choose your amp more on sound preference etc and not practicality. "Age old debate" - may be Old age debate?
To be honest taking it to practice and small gigs is still a pain, I'm looking forward to getting the RH450 and having the SVT best of both worlds.
 9. I have heard this bass live many times and it sounds great even if it is through a Trace Even on this bad recording you can hear it cut through the mix.
 10.
Agreed, it should definitely come Kentwards Wayne......
Haha I've decided to save for a RH450 so other stuff is out the window for the near future.
 11.
Depends how light you want. ABM500s and LH500s weigh half as much as your SVT5, are equally loud or louder than the one channel from the SVT5, and are nice slants on the Ampeg vibe. RH450 does the Ampeg thing well but much lighter. The new Streamliners seem to be along a similar line. Also starting to hear good things about the SVT7. If you use the Superfly with a loud bass (so you don't run into the lack of preamp gain problem), and a loud cab or are not in too loud a band (so you don't run into the lack of power problem), and don't push it too hard or remove it from the aluminium outer case (so you don't run into the appalling cooling problem), and like a relatively clean uncoloured tone then it'll work just fine (assuming you don't get one of the many unreliable examples).
Mine was broken on one side, I have also heard good things about the SVT7 but I'm thinking about saving for a RH450 and keeping the SVT for special occasions.
 12.
Superfly.
I had one and it was the worst sounding thing I have ever heard, I'd rather play through a 10W guitar amp.
 13. I often look at this thread, it's a tempting little cab.
 14.
Bigger testicles, but yeah, you're pretty much there.
Classy.
 15.
Very very nice indeed!
Not mine though
 16. I hate when people have an item to 'swop'.
 17.
How heavy is your Ampeg, Wayne? I can carry the Orange with one hand if I need to, but with two hands it's pretty easy.....and I'm weak & skinny
Ampeg is about 44lbs.
 18. Keep on getting tempted by this but the reason I have problems with my Ampeg is weight.
 19.
Wow some great stuff here. Mine:
/thread
 20.
Yes and no. It has moved on but not that much - the Superfly was rubbish.
It really was and that has put me off.
