4.
Well as regards my fretless playing abilities, as the redoubtable Mrs Clarky says: "if it looks like poo and smells like poo, it is poo" I've basically got too much money tied up in a bass I can't play properly ....
I feel your pain mate, I also have a frettless I can't play, I got mine free and it's an Encore so I may aswell keep it.

 6.
My son has bought a secondhand superfly head 500watts, As yet he has no speaker cabs and we are looking for a couple of 4 ohm cabs. In the meantime he wants to know if he is ok using my trave elliot 1518 8ohm cabinet on one side and nothing on the other or must both side have a speaker attached. cheers in anticipation for your help
You can use either side or both, it's basically 2 X 4OHM power amps which you can't bridge so on each side you can use anything up to 4 OHMs, 16OHM 8OHM 6OHM 4OHM will all be fine.

 8. I'm in the Midlands tomorrow if that helps.

 20.
Well......these seem to get good reviews on basschat for the price http://www.rondomusic.com/bassguitars4.html And as far as bass amplification is concerned I recommend ashdown EB amps which are loud and sound great and most importantly.............are cheap (especially if you buy secondhand - about £100).
I saw Clauster play through an EB amp and it sounded incredible, made me feel a bit silly with an SVT and an 8X10
