What are the chances of me actually getting it even though I've paid for it?
Is this the ebay bass with no pics? If so +1 for awesome
The very same, I had £48.11 in my Paypal that I had nothing to do with so I thought f*** it I'll see what happens.
Thats cool, so usually the bass comes before the idea then? I only mod pretty subtly maybe P/up swap or on my P added the thumb rest and bridge cover. And just did some reading on the SX, didnt realise they were held in such high regard, I saw one a few months back and wish I had plunged now! and agree on the MM, Fenders and VMJ also! cool stuff anyway, do you refin for other people?
I would do it for other people but I never have. Yeah the bass comes first then the idea, in fact I just bought a Peavey International for £36, I haven't seen it yet but I'm sure it'll get the paint treatment. SX's are great but there are different types, the best ones are the 21 fret versions.

I 'won' it. will let you guys know if I ever get hold of it.
Maybe 11! Question though Wayne. And please dont take this as criticism or insult as its not meant as such, but why so many basses that most people would consider 'low end' or 'entry level'? Do you buy stuff with a project in mind? I think every bass except the Sub and Fender J has been hugely modded from what I see here. do you come up with an idea and go find a bass or do you buy a bass when you see one for a bargin price and then decide what to do with it?
I enjoy modding. The honest answer is that I have ended up with most of them by accident, 2 of them I got for free and I paid less then £50 for 3 of them. I wouldn't consider the Fenders, VMJ, MM, and SX as entry level and generally they are the ones I gig with.

Building a 2X10, advice would be appreciated
Wayne, which of your amps are you going to be powering this 2X10 with, and have you got a manufacturers cab as a target sound that you are looking for? Do you want something hi-fi, or more like your Ashdowns? Is it going to be used standalone or with one (or more) of your exisiting cabs?
Going to be the Ampeg for the Irish Folk Punk band, I don't need the 4X10 + 1X15 set up that I usually use. The 2 things I need is 2X10 and lightweight as I won't have the band to help me, I'm going to paint it green -
Vented cab in red (let WinISD predict the ideal volume), sealed of same size in yellow, same size cab with a Delta12LF in it, because I'm guessing that is pretty much what an Aguilar GS112 is, and I've been using the 412 as my basis for comparison. The 2mm Xmax says the aren't great for bottom, but you can get loud middlyness from them.
Cheers mate, I'm a little unsure what all of that means if I'm honest. -
Got WinISD figured? That's a handy tool Materials depend on what you want form the cab. Thick plywood means less fiddly bracing and such, but heavy. Guessing with a 2x10 it is not such a huge issue, so thick ply an d crude construction is happy enough. Decent void free ply is ideal. MDF works ok but might as well do a proper job and use ply for toughness, and a better strength/weight ratio. BFM for plans if you want a fancy cab, but I'd guess you are a trad cab sort of guy. Box of a known internal volume with each dimension different and a correctly tuned port (see WinISD) is all you need, ince you have speakers decided on. I think cutting the round hole for the speakers is the most challenging bit, but t-nuts can be fiddly.
What is WinISD? The speakers will be these.
The answer from the man himself, efficient as ever! Andrew; I assume it's a 4 ohm cabinet; if that's the case each driver has a 4 ohm impedance where each side is first wired in series and then in parallel to achieve a 4 ohm thanks and let me know if you have further questions Jorg www.schroedercabinets.com
Leave this with me mate, I think my amp is 480W @ 4 OHMs stereo so I may see how much a matching driver would be and make a little lightweight 2X10 if not I may see what power my other head is.
