2.
Wayne - if you're going for a solid colour finish, how come you go to the trouble of sanding back to the wood? Being the lazy, corner-cutting pikey I am, I'd think you could just key the original finish with sandpaper or wire wool & dispense with most - if not all - of the primer. I recommend Screwfix own brand black/white/clearcoat gloss spray - loads cheaper than Plastikote! Jon.
I did that very thing with the white precision I just did but with my pricey basses I like to do it right. Is the Screwfix stuff the same as Plasikote?
 3.
you bloody snob..
Now that is true, I'm ashamed
 4. Cheers for your help guys, it has come out well.
 5.
Waynepunk's done a couple of DIY paint jobs. Ask him?
Sand all of the paint off down to bare wood, then finish it with some 1200 grit sand paper then build up and sand back at least 20 coats of primer then depending on the finish you want put on several coats of either nitrocellulose for a matt finish or I use Plastikote paint for a gloss finish that's the basics I use. *Disclaimer* I am not a specialist I have built up my technique on several of my own basses and after trial and error this is what I have ended up with, if you need any help PM me.
 6.
If you want a Fender, buy a Fender!
Great input, thanks.
 7.
+1 But one tip if you use wet and dry. Make sure you do the whole of the front of the headstock evenly - if you only do the area above the decal it will be very difficult to get the new finish even, and you will be left with a shadow where the old logo was. But personally I would leave it as it is!
Cheers buddy, I'm going full on 75RI although I'm leaving the 4 bolt neckplate and squire logo on the back of the headstock just in case I sell it to someone and they try to sell it as a Fender.
 8.
So, had a cheeky ishibashi check at work... And the friggers have done exactly what I didn't need. I'm crazy about Lake Placid Blue. I own a USA '75 Reissue in LPB With Rosewood Board, blocks and binding, a matching head. I also own a Jap '62 reissue Precision in LPB. I've always dreamt of a Maple boarded Jazz with Blocks and Binding in lake placid blue. It was on their site, and after I e-mailed to enquire, it had dissapeared. I'm now waiting for an email back. If this doesn't come off, i'm going to have to buy a used natural one and have Martin Sims do a refinish for me. As i can't bear not to have this setup to finish the Lake Placid Bluecollection. I am in pain not having this bass... Once this is done, a Natural 70's precision with a maple fretless board and i'm done. No more GAS! Enjoy the 1 scrappy Web photo i managed to save. Trav
That is awesome, I hope you get it. I'm also a big fan of LPB I have a Jazz in the colour myself.
 9.
Why do that? after all, it IS a squier! Decal - what an american word! Not sure the best way to do it - careful use of varnish remover on the whole front face having masked it off maybe.
I'm turning into a 75RI clone, it isn't varnished over, I'm thinking wirewool but I'm unsure.
 10. Yo homeslices How do I go about removing the Squier logo from the headstock on my VMJ? CHEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!1
 11. That is genius can you put a link to the bass or are you still looking to buy it?
 12.
Hi All, Thanks for the advice on the concord 2, I have sold the Bass guitar tonight to a very keen collector who came over and is chuffed to bits with it and seems to really love Westone guitars. It sold for £170 which we are really pleased with and seems very fair based on the values everyone mentioned. Thanks again, regards Simon
Good work, I really need to get a Westone at some point and see what they are about, I've heard great things and terrible things but never picked one up and played it in anger.
 13.
It's three separate 4-ohm sets of speakers with a common return, which is why you need 3 x power amps or ideally an AH1000 to drive it.
Cheers buddy, I only have 4OHMs spare
 14.
Of course I'd have no ideas what to do with all those frets!
Is that 36 frets?
 15.
all of them :brow:
If it's 4 it might be worth twining with the 4x10 and 1X15 I already have. As Mr Foxen would say "DOOM"
 16.
No it isn't
Oh yes it is.
 17. I would love this, how many OHMs is it?
 18.
haha brilliant. but yes. bass. finish it soon!
If it doesn't rain today I will.
