1. What is going on with that huge gap at bottom of you post, is it just me that sees that?
 2. About 10 mins and then we are waiting for the drummer for the last 7 mins.
 3.
Hard to tell what's wrong - got any good pictures of your wiring attempts?
I'm in bed at the moment, I'll post some in the morning.
 4. That's what I have been doing. I'm really confussed :S
 5. Am I suppose to use special wire for earthing to the bridge as I usually use any old wire.
 6.
Agreed, I crank out the 40W iron for pot casings. I really ought to get an adjustable temperature one to save me swapping between the 25 and the 40 during a wiring job.
I can stick it to the casing fine but usually use a lot of solder, do I need to make sure the contac is with the casing rather than with the solder?
 7. I thought I was OK at soldering but I've just realised I have never successfully wired a pot in without it buzzing. I always follow the Schematics but it always ends up buzzing, any idea where I'm going wrong?
 8.
that looks pretty cool, any closeups of the finish? is it satin or gloss? looks very satiny... how did you do it?
It's a satin finish, I just used cans of primer, paint , lacquer and a lot of elbow grease. I'll get a close up, up later.
 9. Bought a hardcase from Dan, went as smooth as a baby's bottom.
 10.
Re. chequered knobs - I've searched all over the net and can't find bugger all. There's dice ones , but that's my gag so keep off the grass! Q Parts do loads that have coloured caps - enough colours to match your basses - not perfect but a thought.
Sounds good Dave, I'll look into it and order some up Thanks for the help Dave you're a gentleman.
 11.
looks great! What happened to the pot?!
Just knackared, I'll pick one up when I'm in town and wire it in.
 12. Thanks for the kind words guys, I'm feeling very proud of myself at the moment it won't last long though I'm starting another this afternoon Going to be this colour.
 13. FINISHED See OP Although I need a new tone pot but meh. Best looking bass ever IMO.
 14.
The gauge doesn't really matter - the signal levels are so low that any virtually gauge of wire can handle it. Best to use stranded wire rather than single core wire, though, as the single core can break causing all sorts of problems. Something of a similar gauge to the pickup wires would do the job - not too thick that it's stiff to work with and not too thin that it's fiddly to use. Do you need a specific gauge value ? It's a while since I ordered any stuff like that as I have loads of bits lying around.
Nope that should be fine cheers buddy. In the past I have cut wires off of old PC PSU's I have had laying about but the missus threw them out when we moved. Stranded wire does sound like a good idea. Thanks mate.
 15. What is the best gauge wire to use when wiring up a passive bass? Cheers
 16.
Perhaps its need a full health check(er) (sound of tumbleweed followed by getting hat and coat)
Oh dear
 17.
THANK YOU! I've hated them since 1993. As far as I'm concerned, they undid all the good work that grunge did across all genres. Look at all the good albums that came out in '91, '92 and '93. Green Day are so f***ing '80s.
Really?!?!?!?
 18.
has it been getting wiifitter?
Yeah the neck was a little wide
 19.
Maybe the repairs and tech thread. I sprayed my Ibanez Blazer sea foam green, when I was 18. All I remember is, I loved the smell of the paint.
I did get a little high on the lacquer Nearly there.
 20.
Beats playing covers really slowly
They used to be quite good I think, would never class them as Punk. They are to Punk what Linkin Park are to Metal a watered down version for the masses. I quite like Dookie, Insomniac and Nimrod.
 21. You'd have to be a Dumble-ass to buy that.
 22.
Ummm... Okay? My point was that if the bass is already primed and painted, surely I can just sand into the existing paint and overcoat it?
Sorry, I just didn't prime my fretless enough and the colour really suffered, I didn't make that mistake on my latest project and it looks amazing.
 23.
Umm - not really sure if this is the right forum for this. I've refinished guitars twice in the past, with mixed results. I'm just wondering if any of those of you who make or refinish basses have any useful tips on repainting a bass with a rattle can. - Would I need to take the original finish back to the wood, reseal, reprime and repaint it from scratch, or can I just sand off the top to get a key, overcoat with a different colour and clearcoat afterwards? - Using Plasti-kote acrylic spray paints - good or bad? - How long do I need to let the paint cure for before clearcoating? How long do I need to let the clearcoat cure before I sand and buff it?
Primer, Primer and more Primer.
