1. What a bargain I have of these and it is awesome.
 2. See if they do a 4 string version of this
 3.
I've been playing with a band a bit recently. My board has calmed down a LOT since I used to gig with 25ish pedals, but basically only because I cba to set it all up again.
I like that, looks a f*cking mess but functional.
 4. I usually check the thing first then play the intro to Journey to the End of East Bay - Rancid, it uses all the strings with a pick (the way I play) there is a chord, pull offs, hammer ons and it goes up and down the neck. Goes like if you fancy a go, it's fun to play.
 5.
Come and buy it one of you if you live so close!!!!
How much do you want for it? I might have to sweet talk the missus a litle as it's an exact match for my P.
 6.
Punk at its best. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz1sBi0-130
Got to love the DK's
 7. Minor Threat - Minor Threat, Nofx - Stickin' in my Eye, Black Flag - Six Pack...........
 8.
My fingers dont work properly, I deleted it and couldn't be bothered rewriting it. It wasn't that interesting.
Do tell though.
 9. Yes but you just reminded me to send it, f*ck!!!!
 10.
The Goldsmiths was closed as a decent pub years ago - tarted up and reopened as a place more befitting the increasing gentrification of the area. I used to love it, especially the free gigs they put on there. Saw a bit of trouble in there occasionally, but never had any grief myself.
I like the Goldsmiths but the New Cross Inn is a more 'Punk' pub.
 11. Why do I have Jazz GAS? Winchmore Hill? I went to school there.
 12.
Speaking of which, the promoter at the Old Friends squatted pub in Greenwich has apparently been turfed out - so no more gigs there. We actually had a great time playing there whilst dubious substances were being snorted off the bar and passed around ...
We were going to play there but as you say all gone tits up.
 13.
More or less anything that's come out post-Green Day, the point when it became diluted and commercialised - punk bands should be playing in squats, free festivals and dingy clubs, not arenas and stadiums, and should gob on people who suggest otherwise. I don't mind Rancid, older Green Day and a few other newer punk bands, but for me, it's still all about The Clash, Crass, UK Subs, Bad Brains, The Ramones and so on.
Still happens but you don't hear about it because they are not playing in arenas they are playing in squats, free festivals and dingy clubs. I know thats where we play most of our gigs and meet some great bands along the way.
 14.
I going with my son to see Rise Against in March (I think) does that count, I love 'em (in an manly band appreaciation sort of way....ahem!)
I used to like them but I think they fell into the trap of compromising the music to fit in with the current trend.
 15.
Can't say I have much love for most modern punk. Punk's all about an attitude, and most of these bands that supposedly play it nowadays don't have it. Punk's supposed to be all about channeling anger, the ultimate DIY ethic, doing it your way despite your limitations, fanzines, anarchy... and gobbing and pogoing, obviously. Although, to quote Mike Watt, when he was asked if he was a punk, he replied, "No... a punk's someone who gets f**ked in prison for cigarettes".
Most modern Punk? what do you mean by that?
 16.
in the book "Hugh Cornwell- the Stranglers song by song", he says Burnel didn't actually play on Golden Brown- Dave Greenfield played the bassline on keyboards, as Burnel didn't like the idea of playing just the root notes. that explains why the rest of the basslines on the La Folie album are so different to Golden Brown in both style and sound. Burnel plays it live though, and elaborates the bassline slightly.
I think it sounds great as it was recorded, it really adds depth to the song without being flashy, weird timing though (for me)
 17. I don't think I have ever posted this. The bass playing in awesome but it is a long long song (in 3 parts) it's what Green Day tried to replicate (badly) with St Jimmy The videos are not for the faint hearted.
 18.
Seriously though, if a thread like this gets a young bass player to listen to an old master like JJ, then that’s great. All we old ‘uns can do is point the way. If the young guns like it, great. If not, no problem. It’s not a case of “you must live this guy because I (and my generation) say he’s great”, it’s have a listen and see what you think. I burned a compilation CD for my bass playing nephew with all sorts of stuff on there. Some Blockheads, Level 42, Simple Minds, Black Sabbath, RHCP, Chic, Jah Wobble, Sly & Robbie, Climax Blues Band etc. He listened to it, picked what he liked and ditched the rest. It hurt me like hell when Norman Watt-Roy was rejected, but it’s his choice. He’s only young after all. One day, maybe.
As I said I love Golden Brown but am I correct in thinking that is played on an upright?
 19. Sent me some tapewounds FOC what a guy!!!!
 20.
Everyone's entitled to their opinions of course, and yes I'm 43 and the late 70's early 80's were my apprenticeship, but all I'd say is, have some respect for someone like Jean, who is a very talented and influential bass player, regardless of if you know about him or not. It matters not if it's Charlie Mingus, John Paul Jones, Mark King or Robert Trujillo you're into, they're all top class musicians who deserve some respect. Jean and others like Tina Weymouth and Colin Moulding were my inspiration to start playing in the early 80's, and I love them all dearly for that.
Fair enough I just don't like being told who/what I should like/respect.
 21. Awesome, what does the pot on the horn do?
 22.
meh.. you'd be meaning the punk thing.. and the bloke who invented bass for the punk thing.. i mean really..pfft.. preferred the sound of the greenburst one .. through a straight marshall amp (the one that got nicked) check out 'feel like a wog' sound on the live xcert album.. you can keep your musicman.. meh
I don't like being told who and who I shouldn't like/respect, just because I'm influenced by a different generation (and more talented IMO) I shouldn't be told it isn't right. You wouldn't have a go at someone who listen to Metallica for not liking Deep Purple, would you?
