WTF?! Why are there people with this opinion! When I was speaking to a bassist at a gig, and mentions I was teaching my g/f to play bass, he laughed and said "Good luck! Girls can't handle a 5er cos their too weak!" Admittedly my 'Ray is a bit of a handful, but she can shred on my washburn now worries! Funking prinks! Anyhow, ditch the tutor, you WILL be able to get a better deal elsewhere! Have you tried getting resources from books/the web? might be good untill you find someone who'll take you seriously!
+1 I'm teaching the missus to play she is a little short (thank god she doesn't come on here) and found a full scale a bit much so she now uses my short scale, I think short scale is definatly a soulution if a full scale is a bit big for some people male or female. -
You say that like its a bad thing. I enjoy my practices, and I enjoy seeing people at them. Our practices are social times as much as LETS PLAY MUSIC THIS IS MY SRS FACE occasions. That said, we do 3 hours a week at the moment, but I'd like to do more.
Agreed we usually hang out for an hour before practice then go out after its as much about being friends as playing.

We do about an hour a week but 1 of our guitarists lives miles away so we don't get to practice with him much. But he is the talented one so it don't matter
In my looooooooooooooooong hunt for a bass tutor i went for a lesson a week ago, tutor takes me through to the room we shall be playing in with only 2 small guitar amps and his 2 cheap (unnamed) guitars and proceeds to try to tutor me bass whilst using his guitar. he knows no modern music, gave me nothing to have acheived by the next lesson and lifted £20 off me Gave me a sob story (i am a sucker) so i rebook a next lesson!! but i have nothing to learn for it, he covered all stuff i already know and all we basically did was i played a bassline (song of his choice) whilst he played guitar and sang over it (felt exactly like a pub jam but without the beer and fun) ok everyone what i want to know - is this the best tutor i am going to find? i have been turned down over the phone by 2 other tutors for being a girl and for being too old (27!!!) apparently my small girls hands will mean its too hard to teach me Help - should i get rid of this tutor and carry on looking or keep forking out £20 a pop?
I don't live far from you, I have been playing for 13 years if let me know what you want to learn if I can help I will. If interested PM me. -
It's spelt Rockers and yes, they're on Denmark St. http://www.denmarkstreetonline.co.uk/index...d=20&shop=5
Well I'll be damned I thought it was Rockers but I bought a soft case from there for my Squire and it says "Rokas" on the front, it was one of there own brand ones maybe the embroiders got it wrong.
hmmm, interesting thread as I was going to be asking the same thing. Im still looking for a nice EB3 / Les Paul Bass I can spend some money on (have a bit of inheritance and spending quite a bit on a bass is how who left me the cash would like it spent) and it seems LAHHNNDAAAHHHNNN is the only place I can find such things. My question is - are the Denmark St shops "open to haggling"? Theres some nice stuff knocking around there but they overprice things by about 10%. If I could get that 10% removed (ish) then they could have my cash. Anyone had haggling success out there?
As I have said before IMO Rokas is great they are open to haggling. I've never tried haggling with the Bass Celler but I have a hatred for the place and I think if you tried to haggling the guy might stab you.
Ah oh well, cheers for the link anyways. Not sure the TV is worth the £12.89 though …the tip is likely to be its final resting place, but I thought I’d offer it on here before it gets unceremonially smashed into bits.
If you want some fun try to break the screen with a hammer, if it is anything like a tv I used to have it will take some pressure to break it, in the end i threw it out of a 2nd floor window into a tip on to a brick that was in there. DON'T TRY THIS HOME or do it's a free country
..although your bandmates may laugh, they will never ever thank you enough when you rescue their b*lls from the chopper midgig! Its the bassist's role to be the prepared and sensible one..
All my band mates have there own 'Box of tricks' but mine is the most comprehensive but they are really cool about it, if they use a disposable item they replace it and if they do need something they buy me a drink .

Gave me a free Surround sound system even paid for the postage and that couldn't have been cheap. Great guy

The Sarcasm Society Like we need your support

Did you love the customer service in The Bass Celler ? did they spit at you when you didn't buy a bass? Rokas are pretty good I like the service they let you try anything for as long as you want.
Learn some basic theory. Get a basic book, "Bass Guitar for Dummies" is easy to find and as good as any. Alternatively, there's loads of stuff on the interweb. Here's one to be going on with: http://wheatsbassbook.org/chapter_select.php?chapter=019 Learn to count; learn what a bar is and how to recognise the first beat and how to count it. As has been said, most go 1.2.3.4 1.2.3.4 right through the song. You *need* to be able to do that. I used to be a drummer, so I have it easy, but if you don't have that advantage it's absolutely vital that you play along with something. If it suddenly gets impossible then you'll have to simplify the line or do it slower until you can. Don't take me the wrong way, but playing some mad complicated riff and then coming in two beats late is playing it incorrectly.
I might have Bass Guitar For Dummies around here somewhere if I can find it you can have it, it's a good book. Don't give up, if you enjoy it you will get there in the end.

If it turns out you can't keep time join a Punk band.
-
1.2.3.4 4/4 timing is all you will need
-
I always listen to the snare. When you learn a song with tab, do you play along with original or do you just play it? I had this same problem when I was 15 (10 years ago ) I had been playing for 3 years but not with a band and then I was thrown in at the deep end and I was shocking. Metronomes are invaluble for timing.
It is a Hondo, an H1015, to be exact. - and they're not too bad. This is early 80s, post-copy era stuff, Hondo were trying to go a bit more upmarket with original designs, some made in Japan (Matsumoku was one of the factories they used) & DiMarzio pickups fitted as standard. 70s Hondos were pretty much universally Korean-made plywood trash & deserved the poor reputation, but later ones like this are a bit higher up the food chain. This particular model of bass turns up on Fleabay very regularly, usually sells for well under a ton, if you're interested. Jon.
That it excelent thank you. I don't want one to be honest it sounds ok but looks terrible
I sleep like a log after a gig usually. Though when I wake up I feel a bit down, like there's something missing. Do I grieve the passing of the previous gig? Who knows? It certainly has some kind of emotional effect and I agree that that "hole" is very easy to fill with whac
It is quite sad waking up on te morning after a gig you have really enjoyed I'm with you on tghe recovery Ravioli on toast and a coffee, then again I don't drink, smoke or do drugs so ravioli is the next best thing. I'm so Punk
