1. I want a Stingray, quite a basic want but i really want one. My dream bass is a bright yellow P-bass i couldn't find one so I'm making one
2.
Absolutely agree, but if you say to banjo fixer "'ere, I'm thinking of selling this, what's it worth?" and he says, "oh not much mate, I tell you what, hold on to your £450 and I'll give you a hundred quid" - at least if you ask what it should be insured for, you might get a better idea.
I know what you mean, I don't wanna ask too much for it but i don't want to have my trousers pulled down. One thing is for certain i need to do some serious research. I will put the manufacturer and pic up here when i get it and see if anyone can shine a light or offer me 20k for it
3.
Do you know who made it? According to this, there were quite a few people making banjoes around that time.
Not off the top of my head it is still at the banjo works i need to pick it up then i will know.
4. Hey guys not sure if this is the right forum. I have a banjo hand made in Boston in the 1890's i have just had it fully restored and is now in perfect condition. It is a small 5 string banjo and has cost me £450 to have restored but i have just been laid off so can't really afford to keep it, does anybody know a ballpark figure what it would be worth or where to sell it? Cheers Pics to follow
5.
far more than one which the cat may well have used as a bed and may have been used as a temporary wine table at Xmas etc. but has not experienced the same kind of stresses and abuse.
Funny you should say that my cab get slept on by my drummers cat between gigs and boy does he get p*ssed when i take his bed to a gig and i have the scratches to prove it.
6. That Victor Wooten cd i have played though the back of my amp.
7. I need to improve my whole technique to be honest, i was just wondering if compression would improve my sound. I'm going into canterbury tomorrow so i'll go to the guitar shop and try one.
8. Oh also would i use a compressor before or after the pre amp?
9.
Compressors are especially great with a pick, reduces the click of the plectrum and brings out some of the actual sound of the bass while then keep the higher frequencies generated by the click. In rock music, compression is used on everything... fact
I'm going to have to give it a try and i love the Jeremy Kyle style FACT.
10.
Bump with price drop
I sold my PD-7 on ebay for £40 so that is a good price
11.
They're dead useful live and almost essential in the studio but it depends what sort of music you play as to how you use them. I used to play a fretless Jazz in a very hardcore band and a compressor was so good for keeping the riffs tight and evenly attenuated with the guitars. I used a pick most of the time and I found it even better with pick. Try one in a rehearsal and see if it gives you the feelings you like.
i might borrow one from a mate and try it out before i take the plunge, sound good though.
12.
You should tell him to like or lump it. He can't dictate what you play unless he pays for it. Nice bass Sarah - I've always fancied an explorer, but the band I'm in has a kind of rock/blues/soul/country/rockabilly hybrid sound, so I settled for a thunderbird instead.
My guitarist didn't like my old pink and yellow P-Bass so i played it more just to anoy him
13. I use a pick and that is it, so not for me then?
14. Would something like this work for bass? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DBX-266A-ProJect-One...id=p3286.c0.m14 Or would you need a specific bass compressor?
15. I have been playing bass for years, i have never used compression. What does it do? P.S I know I'm a dumbass.
16. We made a project vidoe when we first got together here is the terrible proof
17. If you have home contents insurance check your policy, mine covers me for £5k for stuff i take out of the house and covers everything inside my house.
18.
Cool - might be a week or 2 as I say , I'll PM you then.
Not a problem i'm still painting the body so no rush.
19. I will take the machines and the bridge when they come up. I would have taken the neck but I'm not good enough to play fretless (or fretted for that matter but it make it easier)
20. If it helps i saw a blue one go for £1250 a few weeks back.
21. Andy Crocket is amazing, again it's all personal taste but he does the work i need doing on my bass and when i go to his workshop the stuff he is building always amazes me.
22.
you re welcome , i lll turn the same age in a month :brow: well, as long as it s not built it s pretty small, it all fit in my tiny student bedroom keep me in touch
All i need is a cab for home my gig cab is kept at my drummers house and wieghs a ton so i'd like to use my head at home but without the huge cab. This sounds damn good, iwill let you know when i get approval from the boss. It is scary age :S
