The Nordstrand pickup replacement is made to measure, and is supposedly a lot better than 'nice'.
I've already got the bart, so that's the end of that! However, I was thinking about a J/MM set of Nordys to go in a different bass. They're meant to sit nicely with east preamps.

the bart pickup looks made to measure, which is nice

A guitar tech (guitar dr) told me he rates Mr Sheen when I asked him the same question
I just had a reply from Ishi: Dear Sean, ******************************** Thank you for your inquiry. We are very sorry to say, we do not ship any new Fender Japan product internationally. Sales of new Fender Japan merchandise outside of Japan are restricted. We appreciate your understanding. Best regards,************************ International Sales Manager Any ideas?
I hope someone's made a gaff at their end. Otherwise a spanner has been thrown in my future bass purchasing works. As an aside, quality quote from ishibashi website (underneath photo of random guitars): "It is absolutely profitable. Guitar for introduction to Mavis." Obviously Mavis is the brand-name, but that doesn't matter! Sheesh that website's frustrating!
I'm not sure how much I want to spend on the thing by way of upgrades.
I'm not sure either, but I got myself a levin just before Xmas. I reckon I'm gonna pimp mine up a little, I got a bartolini pickup off ebay for less than £40 delivered. It's second hand but in good nick. I was looking at an OBP-3 preamp for it as well, they're not even that much from the states. I do find mine a little neck heavy; what do you reckon Rayman? Or is it my shiny-backed strap?

The spirit XT2 looks alright for £200 new I reckon. It looks identical to the Hohner B2A I used to have (and paid £300 for), except it doesn't have the bridge detuner; but I never used it anyway. If the preamp was a bit naff you could always throw on a Status or John East stack (bass & treble) to sweeten things. The east stack has the slap function as well. My ex-guitarist's Dad got a hohner Jack for £120 and it had the sweetest action I've ever played on. Doesn't look as dated as the 'cricket bat' either, though their prices on fleabay aren't that appealing.
One shop in Leeds price up they're stuff so when you ask for the discount..its stock price.
Come on then, name & shame. Or at least PM me. Everyone should know about shops like this, so they can at least get a bass for it's normal price.

Is this cheap trick (or Rick Nielsen particularly) inspired? Seems pretty cheap at the mo. I wonder how much it'll go for?
Perhaps people should have to be around for a while before posting Ads?
+1 I've had nothing but smooth deals on basschat so far, and I feel a bit defiled when some tw@t like this character rocks the boat. I don't like getting wet. Maybe only fully fledged members (and higher) should be allowed to trade?

I know peavey UK were selling off a few instruments that had electronic faults, but were otherwise sound. Back on topic, I've got some dimarzios in a jazz bass and they're really nice. You can get good prices on them from the states as well. Is it the pickups, the electronics, or both that are iffy on your 5'er?
i did email them and they offered a small discount (minimal) on the postage but weren't prepared to knock anything off the instruments unfortunately.
Grrrr Looks like I'll have to sort my own out. When I can afford it!

I remember before Xmas there was talk of getting a big-ish order together of sweet merchandise from ishibashi. Is the idea on the back-burner, or round the U-bend completely? Bo!

Cheers guys, looks like I'll be lurking in some DIY shops soon. Any thoughts on how I should cut it, or is it just trial & error?

Apologies if this subject has been broached before, I suspect it will have been.. Anyway, I could do with some foam to put under the pups in my G&L tribute L2500, as they push into the pup cavity far too easily when resting my thumb on them. There are springs in situ, but they're not manly enough for an ultra butch guy like me . So I ask: 1) Does anyone know where I can buy/pilfer a bit of suitable foam, I don't need kilos here... and 2) Does anyone have any experience of putting foam under G&L pups? IE how big the bits of foam should be trimmed to, one lump or a couple of strips etc... Cheers guys Andrew.
