The OP had it right in that some of these bitsa basses are like custom shop creations. I picked up this one a few days ago and have worked on it a little. Done a nice setup with lighter Elixirs, and added some better foam on the bridge pickup, as it was sinking too far away from the strings. Just been out and done some new outdoor pictures, too. The constituent parts are; Fender MIM roasted maple neck, Schaller tuners, 'Guitar & Bass Build' high polish Alder body, Hipshot bridge (only bridge I've ever seen that needs a 0.05" Alun Key!) and active EMGs with a 9v battery under the gold tort scratch plate. A very lively and snarly sounding bass - think of it as a non-pink Betsy.

Way to go, Andy! Four LPBs left. Still pondering...

Noice That'll look well in a 50's show. Congrats!

I would imagine up-and-coming young players with some coin are buying the hell out of the Charles Berthoud signature model.

I'm sooo tempted to order one of the last few blue ones from Anderton's. There were seven available this morning. I don't need it, but £149 is such a ridiculous deal... 🤔

Ali Express, that's definitely not graphite, mate!

Be my guest... Would you like the link? -

Nope, definitely not graphite. Can someone pop to China and teach them how to correctly mount Monorail tuners, please?

NBBD relic build, a touch of Adam Clayton

Nice build. That’ll look great on stage -
Well said I've always liked the sound of those late seventies Precisions. Have a listen to Bill Stevenson's Precision on "Sugarfoot".

Yes, gold hardware tends to look good if everything else is subtle/muted.

I'm sure some purists will be throwing rocks at their computer screens, shouting "Heretic!", but for me, an instrument is for playing. If your reversible mods make you like the playability/sound more, then go ahead and mod it and play the heck out of it!

As Doctor J mentioned, the idea of these strings is that you don't need to wipe them down. The nanoweb coating keeps the muck out of the grooves. To give you an idea, I change my Elixirs once a year on my main Jazz bass, and that's usually after 30-40 2 hour Warners/Theatre live shows. Just play them and enjoy them

Thanks, 80Hz. Yes it seems to have landed in the home of overworked Warners Resorts/Theatres Jazz Basses!

Up for sale is my Ibanez BTB400QM, finished in Blackberry. A really nice to play 35" scale, 18v active four stringer. These sound much better balanced than the SR series preamps. A huge sonorous sounding bass with plenty of character. Some slight dings here and there, but overall a nice bass for around 20 years old. One of the strap buttons has been screwed into a new hole right next to the original by a previous owner, but that can easily be filled/covered up. Electrics all work properly and action is nice and low. An old Warwick gigbag will be thrown in with the sale. Payment via cash or direct bank transfer on collection. Can deliver or meet half way, up to a reasonable 75 miles from DE7.

Well... Changed the battery under the Scratch Plate, inspected all the crazy EMG wiring under the Control Plate, and put on a fresh set of Elixir 40-95's and it sings. Never had a Bass with those active EMG's before and I have to say, it's a very balanced and punchy sound. Didn't even need to play with the action - it's already on the deck and relief looks perfect. I'd say it's a winner.

I usually put 40-95 Elixirs on my Jazzes, but I do have a set of barely used Thomastik Jazz Flats lying around...

Well I'm just back from the Wakefield area and a battle through the maelstrom known as the M1, where I picked up this bitsa Jazz. It consists of a roasted Mexican Fender neck, a 'Guitar & Bass Build' high polished body, Schaller tuners, Hipshot bridge and active EMG pickups. I'll report more on the sound tomorrow when I've put some decent strings on it and set it up properly...

That looks really nice. I've been hanging my nose over Reverends for a while. Congrats on your lovely new bass

Annie Clements' Bass of the Future
HeadlessBassist replied to HeadlessBassist's topic in Bass Guitars
I'll second that - after all, this very week, the 'new' Player II Modified has taken things from very the very colourful and creative Player Plus finishes to boring again. -

Or a Line 6 Variax. -
Not sure whether anyone else has put this up, but I can't decide whether she's joking or completely serious...

New Fender Player II Modified range launched
HeadlessBassist replied to sPiKi's topic in Bass Guitars
Okay, so these are replacing the Player Plus I presume? (Really liked the graduated paint schemes on Player Plus.) Btw, the guy who did the Precision Player Modified video was very annoying and playing out of time. As for the girl in the Player Modified Jazz video, please bring back Annie Clements, Fender. -
Congratulations As we all know, when you find a good Jazz with that rich bottom end and clear & sparkly highs, there's nothing more satisfying.
