  1. Mine has disowned me.
  2. That red Aerodyne is lovely. I've always had a thing for these and have played a few. There's just something about them.
  3. Sire have a habit of doing that to your brain and sense of values. I've had a few Sires, and of course, they usually end up being trade-in fodder for more expensive instruments, but they are good. My most recent one was one of the 2nd Gen Ash V7's and as a backup bass to my American Original Jazz, it was easily as good, if a little punchier with the preamp. I think you sometimes have to end up taking money out of the equation and just accept that a good bass is a good bass, no matter how much it does or doesn't cost.
  4. 1. Clean strings. If you want to be heard equally and not get buried in the mix, use some clean and zingy strings. 2. RH position. Learn to play in a musically and tactile manner, experimenting with the different tones you get from playing over the end of the fingerboard, or at the bridge - ask yourself where your instrument sounds best. Also, think about when you need to play gently and sit back (when someone is singing or soloing), and when you need to dig in and punch through. 3. Think about the length/sustain of your notes. Are you sounding lyrical, or leaving huge holes? Either is good at times, depending on the style and speed of the music.
  5. Even scarier, I bought the one-off 2019 KingBass MkII 5-string that he had in stock. I am now officially poor.
  6. That's where the attack and sizzle comes from. I really like these. Am I allowed to sort of like her music when I'm 55..?
  7. I played an S2000 at BassBros in Warwickshire last weekend, and was reminded how ballsy and powerful the original 2-band preamps were in those things. Just a pity that it was nearly £3000 in 2025 money. *Sigh*
  8. Having watched a few of the reviews, they seem to be quite different from the Classic Vibes and the Player 2 ranges, in that they have ceramic pickups, so the tone is going to be generally brighter and punchier than the aforementioned two ranges. I looked at the close-up pictures on one dealer site and they do look very well made. Looking forward to trying one or two.
  9. I have a couple of pupils who have the Chinese G4M basic basses. I have to say they take a bit of setting up, but for the money... They're not terrible. They're good enough as starter instruments for kids.
  10. Hi everyone, to save a load of questions, firstly a little history - the first 101 Warwick Aliens were German made in the 90's by Lakewood Handmade Guitars - this one is quite an early example (#173) of the hand crafted Vietnamese ones (2000-2010) that were around before production moved to Korea (for some prototypes), leading to the cheaper mass produced Chinese models from 2011 onwards. The build quality is excellent, as is the Fishman Preamp. From the serial no. sticker inside, and looking it up on the Warwick forums, the instrument was made in 2005. I got it in a trade with a Mayones Jazz about ten years ago with another pro player in London. The bass is currently strung with Thomastik Jazz Flats, which if played with the RH fingers at the end of the fingerboard, sounds remarkably Double Bass-like. You're welcome to pop over and try it, by all means. Condition is very good - the only real mark is a slight indentation further down the neck where a previous owner obviously had a long thumbnail, but the instrument is in lovely order for it's age. It also comes with a full hardcase. Price is £1050 ono (Bass Direct have a slightly newer Fretless version in stock and Mark is asking £1299), and I am open to interesting trades and maybe some money either way. I'm currently interested in Fender Vintera Jazz (the shoreline gold one), or anything with a Status-Graphite badge on it. Maybe even a MusicMan if it's a nice one. Please note that this is strictly a buyer to collect instrument. (Or I can meet up at a reasonable distance.) This bass is potentially too delicate to post or leave in the hands of couriers - I previously lost hugely on a Warwick Triumph EUB, which was severely damaged by UPS handlers. So hit me up in the PM's if you're interested. Thanks for looking! (Edited in order to amend some details after more research on the Warwick Forums.)
