I have a couple of US Spectors and they're up there with any bass I've ever played. Preferable to me to the Fodera and Wals I've owned in the past (a personal preference, of course) with a build quality and fit and finish that is absolutely superb. Attention to detail is staggeringly good - QC at the US custom shop is extraordinary and I hope it will stay this way now that Stuart Spector is no longer involved. This looks like a beautiful example with a gorgeous top. I'd agree with the comment above re: price - it's worth taking a look at Bass Direct's prices on this sort of spec. Wonderful and good luck with the sale!

Sold - 1969 Fender Jazz -now £2650 FS/ trade plus cash ..O.N.O

I have enjoyed the inestimable pleasure of having handled and played this bass. It possesses that almost magical feel of a really good (really, really good), vintage Fender, one played, loved and admired over more than five decades. Whilst I don't deny that there are some fantastic relicers around, there is something about the real thing that simply defies replication. When I took this bass from its case, its history and class was evident immediately. It is everything that the seller says. Authentic, authoritative, sweet, mature and perfectly mellowed by years of play. Clearly an instrument that has been, and will continue to be treasured. It's a fairly light bass too, and of course, perfectly balanced. Playability is superb - low action but enough relief to ensure that every note sings. The work by Jimmy Moon is exemplary, and in my view, something that adds a unique and classy twist to a very desirable bass. The dark ebony board and dots are beautiful and the binding is brilliantly well-executed. It's worth having look at Jimmy's current production (and his prices) - a true star in the luthiery firmament. I'm a big fan of Fender's '66-'69 period and some of my favourite Fenders derive from this time - and this J is certainly one of my favourites (I genuinely prefer many instruments from this period to their pre-CBS counterparts). I wanted this bass last time it became available. Alas, extremely poor timing for me this time around and I'll miss out... though if I did ever have the chance, I'd be getting some lollipops for that dots, bound '66 look - 'weak at the knees! GLWTS, though I doubt that luck is a factor here. -
This bass is now on-hold pending payment. Mensinger Cazpar fretless short-scale bass (4P) - hollow body, eye poplar top - stunning looks and in as new condition. I bought this from Scrumpmike on here a few months ago (see advert below - I hope this is OK Mike). Fantastic player with super-low action and a full but very articulate voice. Very nicely constructed and super-light at around 3.2kg. Balance is superb given extended top horn. Really fun and easy to play but with very high-end tone and sustain. Currently strung with d'Addario light nickels (40-95) but will also be supplied with the labella flats that were on it when it arrived (very nice but I just tend to use rounds on fretless). Also supplied with Mensinger padded gig-bag and original documentation. Built in May 2017 and appears to be have used very little. I bought it to fill-in whilst waiting for the return of another bass and that bass is now ready. Main details: Poplar eye top on mahogany body Hollow-body in high gloss poly finish Maple neck with plain and unmarked ebony board (small edge of board fret marker lines and dots) Satinated finish on back of neck 30" scale 40mm nut weight: 3.2kg Domanski pickup in eye poplar cover Passive with volume, tone and coil tap Mensinger bridge Tuners are very positive (but not sure of maker - look like Gotoh) Original ad from Scrumpymike: Collection in Manchester would be ideal but I can ship in the UK for around £15 (excluding insurance). Shipping at the buyers risk - I don't have a hard case for the bass. No trades thanks and I'm firm on price - I think this is a significant bargain at £820. Any questions, please just ask

As above, part of the Gator Pro range - roto-moulded mil-spec - looks almost new. These appear to retail at around £140. Front and rear rack strip, rubber feet on bottom. Supplied with 7 fixing bolts and washers. This is the deep version. A really nice, solid case. Collection would be great but I can ship in the uk for around £5. Amp shown for size purpose only!

Thank you and it is an absolutely lovely bass - gorgeous looks and a fabulous player. Unfortunately, not mine any longer - now residing with one of Basschat's finest!

Fodera Matt Garrison Signature 5 Chestnut Top - SOLD
three replied to mrbassman_de's topic in Basses For Sale
I'm sure that the seller will come along with a definitive answer. I sold this bass around 6 or 7 years ago and I'm pretty sure that the spacing is adjustable. My decision to sell was based partially on the width of the board, though it's all down to personal preference, of course. I prefer skinny, narrow, (and more recently) short-scale necks -

The post above appears to have some very sound advice (indeed, they all do). Alembic uses dual - single action - rods in all (nearly all?) of its basses and the advice there is to maintain a pretty much consistent approach when adjusting, i.e., similar adjustment for each rod. I'm not sure that this helps very much but good luck. If there has been stability for 20 years, you live in a temperate climate (Sw uk) and you're not doing anything extreme in terms of string gauges, I'd have thought you'll be reasonably safe

Thanks Clarky, Beedster - a quick check and it looks like "The pickup is in effect two mini-humbuckers in the same casing. The stereo effect is derived by putting the pickup coils under the first and second strings on one channel and the third and fourth the other half of the pickup" (Vintage and Rare, 2020 https://www.vintageandrare.com/product/Shergold-Marathon-MK1a-Early-80s-White-26752) - this kind of makes sense but good to know that it operates in Mono too!

Beautiful - absolutely love these - fabulous British classic. I'm the same - pretty much short scale only. However, I'm intrigued by the stereo - I'm being a bit lazy here, I should just go and look - but is this configured E/A right and D/G left, or is there something else going on? And more importantly, where's the dog?

SOLD - Alembic Signature Deluxe MK with Balance K body - cocobolo £4850

Thanks to all for the very lovely comments! I've attached some new images but they're not much of an improvement - taken this evening in yellow artificial light - they really don't do the finish any justice. Any apparent marks are just reflections. On very close inspection, there's a little swirling under the truss rod cover - obviously the outcome of some slap action (not me) - it's not easy to see in daylight and would polish out, but for full disclosure etc. If we ever get any natural light, I'll get some much better pics! -

Hi all, thanks for all the interest/calls and lovely comments. The bass is now sold. Alembic Signature Deluxe MK with Balance K body - figured Cocobolo front and back Red and Amber LEDs 4 string 34" scale Gold plated bridge and nut (22k hard plate) - no need for endless polishing Maple and purple heart neck - ebony board with some quilting (extraordinary - I haven't seen it previously) Abalone inlays Sterling Silver Alembic logo Signature electronics Body is cocobolo facings, mahogany core and maple and purpleheart laminates Heart Omega cut Brass control and battery cover plates Weight is around 9lbs 12 ozs - I'll try to get an accurate weight 2011 build In extraordinary cosmetic condition with no blemishes or marks anywhere. The neck pickup logo was worn when I received the bass but the logo has been replaced and the minor wear to the cover has been polished back to matte. This could probably pass for a new bass. The only imperfection I can find is a tiny lifting of the lacquer adjacent to the nut retaining screw on the headstock (I'm being really picky here). The tone is pure Alembic - bell-like clarity and extraordinary sustain. I've had this set-up with a super-low action (probably too low for most players). The case is in pretty much perfect condition too. Comes with paperwork and strap locks. Pretty close to buying a new bass really. Any questions please just ask. I can provide any images you may need. Socially distanced collection in Manchester is possible. I can ship within the UK or to some overseas destinations but entirely at the buyer's risk and expense (I'd strongly advise insurance to full value). I have good shipping materials. Reason for sale is size. It's too big for me. I'm a short-scale player only and should stop pretending that I can play long-scale. I'm selling for less than I have in the bass. It came to me in near perfect condition then I spent a lot of money making it absolutely perfect. No offers and no trades thanks unless you have a high-end short-scale Alembic. Oops, just realised that some of the image files are HEICs - I'll convert and attach tomorrow. Some images also show the neck pickup prior to replacement of the logo

Superb rig and fabulous with the six string I’d imagine. My favourite pre but interesting to hear how you get on with the power amp. I’m on my third (stereo 250) and find that they impart some harmonic colour, a kind of fine grit. Musical but a bit unexpected - I tend to use my pre through the back end of a db750 where complete cleanliness is required. I hope that you have sound floors. A very substantial stack (and if you need to add a few pounds, I think that Thomann still have a few of the Warwick dedicated 3u cases). Lovely to see the complete set - stunning!

I know that some UK and European Basschat members bought cabs in the Thomman blow out a couple of years ago. I've used the preamp and amps and they're superb. The pre is my favourite of all that I've used. The amps are incredibly well built and the philosophy behind their conception and execution appears very robust. I'd hope that the quality is carried through into the construction and performance of the cabs.

This is a giveaway in my opinion. These are some of finest Fender-types available - the only F-type basses that I've played that are in the same league have been Celinders, though US Laklands have a very special feel, especially the neck (I prefer this to Celinder). Laklands have some of the dimensions and feel of the very best of very old Fenders to me - plus, there's much reduced risk - not all very old Fenders are very good Fenders in my experience. I have absolutely no need for this (I have a Lakland P) though I'd dearly love it
