Lovely bass - the top is gorgeous - and a lovely story to go with it. Not the same level but Phil Oakey was in the shop when I went to collect my Status back in the mid '80s. I'd concur with CameronJ - excellent taste (is that a Moody strap in the image - only the best all round!)

Four string set of short-scale flatwound strings. Cut for a two a side head. I've no idea what these are but they're in good condition and don't appear to have seen a lot of use. They're nice and clean too - 'silks look a bit used but aren't tatty. These came off a fairly high-end bass so I doubt they're cheap (possible La Bella - somebody may be able to tell from the wrap and silks?). £8 with UK shipping included

Strangely timely as I re-strung one of my short-scales with 5250xl strings at the weekend (I use these more than anything else on short-scale basses). They don't have silks at either end which is a bit of a problem for me as the string retainer on one of my basses has gold plate and I want to avoid scraping it. There are two solutions (at least). One is to use heat shrink wrap (the kind of thing that electronics engineers might use), or just wrap yourself. Standard sewing thread is fine in my experience and it takes around 30 seconds per string to wrap carefully at the ball end. Sealing is a bit tricky (tying knots is difficult), though a little blob of super glue should hold the end of the thread. I used the latter option last weekend (a rather fetching deep blue) and was very pleased with the result. Just don't overdo it and extend the wrap over the saddles. I used TI rounds as a template and they have around 0.75" of wrap from the ball. I don't know if embroidery silk would be a better option. I might try it. Whatever, nice to have the option of your preferred wrap colour from the rainbow of threads on offer

Looking forward to the pics of this - my favourite of all the lovely bass amps I've heard, tried and owned. Truly majestic. I have a slight preference for these over the 751 (revised tone-stack included). Do I need another? I've had three and still have one of them - one of the few pieces of gear that's actually hung around!

Long-shot on BC but worth a try (the ad is on Club Alembic too). A used DS-5R power supply in good, gigged condition and perfect working order. The unit has some superficial marks but no dents or bends! Comes with the Alembic cable for Series basses - this is in perfect working order but could benefit from a little care - a screw is missing from one of the connectors (see images). Original build date is around 2008. I can ship this in the UK for £10 - please ask for further afield

An Alembic Supercord ASC 20 (20 foot) Active Cable. I've been using this with a passive bass and it's excellent for guitars too - essentially, it gives you 'more' of the inherent/baked-in tone of whatever you put through it. The cord doesn't really add anything, it simply ensures that nothing (or less) is lost. Alembic's own explanation appears on the reverse of the card in an image below. I'm playing actives almost exclusively and virtually no guitar at all so this can move on. These are outrageously expensive - £395 in the UK - and outrageously beautifully constructed (the box is made from purple heart, flame maple and ebony) - high-quality Gotham cable and GH silent plugs. This example looks like new and has been used very infrequently and only in a home environment (it's mint). I suspect that there's a less expensive way of achieving the same result, but if it's got to be Alembic (and it needs to look as beautiful as it sounds), then this is the one. Price includes next day UK shipping with insurance. For Europe, drop me a note. Possibly a long-shot on Basschat so this is up on Club Alembic too.

A Lexicon MPX G2 multi effect unit in extraordinary condition for its age (and still with the manual!) There's some very minor rack marking but this is a very clean unit overall and works perfectly (I've taken some images with flash to highlight any marks, but these really are minimal). I'm sure that if you're looking, you'll know what this is and what it does. A very expensive pro rack unit when launched and something that changed the face of guitar/bass effects (for those that could afford one). Whilst the unit was designed fundamentally for guitar, it works beautifully with bass... dare I venture, somewhat better in most modes than the Line 6 units I've tried, including the Helix. Really a pro unit - I tried it up against my Helix Stomp this morning and it blew the latter away in almost every respect - the quality and depth of effects is outstanding and the reverbs are of a different order (you'd expect this with Lexicon anyway). The Stomp is staying as it's a convenient package and good enough for live/rehearsals - I just don't lug too much rack gear around anymore. The Lexicon has multiple ins/outs and midi connections - all explained in the manual. As far as effects are concerned, and programmability, there isn't much it can't do (really well). A vintage classic with a well-deserved and highly positive reputation. Collection in Manchester is good, though I can ship for around £10 to the UK. Any questions, please just ask.

I know that there was one on sale here in a shock rack and that weighed-in at 70lbs+ - I suspect that 40lbs is closer to the mark here (without the case). I've always preferred SS power sections (and front-ends for that matter - it took me a long time to work this out), but I'd absolutely love this. What a very beautiful monster -
Me too re Fusion (F1) but the Armourdillo looks like a good and inexpensive option. At the other end of the spectrum (big, heavy, not inexpensive), I’ve been massively impressed by SKB’s 3i bass series. A real and useful alternative to Anvil with full milspec

Really easy and very pleasant deal with Chris in the past couple of days - immediate payment and fantastic communication throughout (the wonders of the BC PM facility). An extremely trustworthy and friendly member of a brilliant community - thanks!

If you're looking for extreme protection for a standard bass, I doubt you'd do better than this. I try to avoid getting overheated with respect to accessories but one of these arrived yesterday and the quality is staggering. Genuinely, a surprise at the care and attention to detail. Not the cheapest option but I'd have a high degree of confidence re: transporting a bass in this in pretty much all normal touring circumstances. It would be a bonus if the bass it was bought to house would fit. I wonder if I should have measured? It might stay anyway. The kind of product that it's worth buying a bass for. Currently available at Thomann at less than £250 https://www.thomann.de/gb/skb_3i_5014_op.htm

I have a used Alembic hard case from around 2008. It is designed to fit a small bodied standard bass (short-scale). There are external marks and scuffs from a decade of gigging, though the case remains strong and robust and the plush-lined foam is entirely intact. All the latches work, though the right hand latch retaining spring (the spring that holds the lock-up when open) is non-operational. The only other minor issues are that the studded closure tab for the accessories compartment door is missing as are the keys for the case. The cases are made by G&G for Alembic and are incredibly expensive when new (around £350 I think). It may fit a Gibson SG, EB0 or EB3 though I can't be sure of this. Collection in Manchester is good or I can ship (by sticking a shipping note to the outside of the case - I don't have a box). The case looks shiny in the second image, though this is simply because I'd wiped over the dust with a damp cloth. Possibly a long-shot on BC but worth a try - the case will be advertised on Alembic Club too. Price is £60 collected but I can ship to the UK and Europe at cost. Any questions, please just ask. Update - I've had a look at this and it would probably be possible (fairly easily) to remove/adjust the foam body insert. If somebody wished to do this, then the case would fit a wider range of basses - it's fairly long so will take a 34" scale bass. However, I just tried it with a Precision and it won't accommodate the top horn. You'll see from the images that the case has an extended accessories compartment - this extends around an inch too far to permit insertion of a P! It's designed to fit something like an Alembic Stanley Clarke model with the wide but short body - removing the body-fit foam would leave a reasonably large body space but not a long one (for the top horn at least). .

I picked this up last week as another in a long line of pointless purchases (I've had wireless from the most expensive to the incredibly cheap and still prefer cables - I thought the bug style transmitter might convince me but it hasn't) So, for sale at £85 collected in Manchester (or I can ship for an extra £3.50 or for £6 if you want insurance) This was sold to me as new but when it arrived the plastic bags had been opened and the micro-bubble sticker attached to the transmitter battery door. I can't find any marks or signs of usage and the unit appears to work perfectly (I tried it for around 20 minutes). All adaptors are included and the unit appears to be unused apart from the opened bags. Please just let me know if you have any questions
