1. Still absolutely love this and surprised it's unsold - any chance of an image of the top of the body showing the tummy cut and elbow contour (usually extremely elegant on Ps of this vintage). I'm not a big Fender player but this looks like a gorgeous example
2. Apart from the classic look and aesthetic, I'm not a fan of vintage Fenders, or Fenders at all (especially the tone - it really does nothing for me). However, if I was going to buy a vintage Fender, it would be this - in my view, this is a really beautiful artefact - perfectly proportioned, lovely dark board, choice of two fantastic guards and subtle ageing to a classic colour. Gorgeous - surprised it hasn't gone yet
3. For dep jobs and walk-ins, I usually just take a bass and an AER Amp One (combo) - (bass) monitoring is frequently horrible, so the Amp One serves as a personal sound source and its DI out provides a high-quality feed to FoH. All reasonably light and convenient for fast load-in/out. If I know the engineer and have confidence in monitoring, a DI is sufficient (one of my personal favourites is an Avalon U5)
4. I had the 5 string (non x) version of this - absolutely beautiful instruments
5. I have the 2x10 version - absolutely brilliant cabs from my favourite builder. Efficient, loud, tight and articulate. A great pillar of our community too - somebody will love this.
6. It's also been through the hands of Mamelok's too by the look of it - that brings back a few memories. Love these and great for bass or guitar
7. Lovely - these come-up very rarely - rather exotic and highly desirable for guitar or bass. The mod makes a lot of sense too. I’m not a valve fan (I use an SF2) but this is an excellent acquisition for somebody. A very realistic price too IMO
8. 'saw a very similar '62 about 35 years ago in A1 in Manchester for about £800. How times have changed. Looks nice enough, good luck
9. Lovely cabs - where is this located?
10. Very surprised this remains here - beautifully built basses that with a good set-up are close to the US version. Great price (IMO)
11. It might be worth loading some images of this - fabulous basses and I still play my old SII more than pretty much everything else. An image would give some indication of whether this is a S2000 of Stealth too. I know that things are slow so maybe try the Statii forum too?
12. Interesting - the guard looks good to me but there are others here that will know better. Really lovely bass - who did the re-fin and is it nitro? Realistic price if all parts original (IMO)
13. Wow, I'm massively impressed that anybody has the skills to bring this together - these look gorgeous and I can't imagine that they sound anything other than magical. Looks like a bargain to me
14. Having recently acquired a Marleaux, I can attest to the build quality and quality of components. Gerard's instruments are up there with the best of US and UK custom-built basses. The pair on offer here look like absolutely spectacular examples of the highest end of the Marleaux range.
15. Further to Fretmeister's post, I use Status 30-90 on my headless Status basses. I tried recently to get hold of some Status 30-90s with round cores (and conventional ends rather than DBE). Unfortunately, Status no longer supply the latter but are trying to source a new manufacturer. I'd concur with other posts too - Newtone will do pretty much whatever gauge is required, and with round cores. I've found Newtone product to be of a high quality.
16. I tend to prefer high-compliance and low-tension strings - Hi-Beams seem OK but not very low tension and anything with a round core, rather than hexagonal should help (though be careful with appropriate bends when re-stringing). The lowest tension that I know of is TI rounds. Beautiful strings in every way but with a premium price tag
17. That tort headstock is worth it on its own!
18. Just a rapid intervention to assure all that Binky is an outstandingly trustworthy member of our community and a man of extraordinary integrity. He also knows his amplifiers and selects nothing but the best. I don't have direct experience of this model but use an AER combo and can claim in all honesty that it's clarity, versatility and build quality are of the highest order. AER earned its reputation on the back of ultra-high quality and real-world usability. IMO, binky's amp is an absolute bargain!
19. Thanks very much White Cloud - I missed a couple of things, extraordinary neck stability and incredibly low action (if that's what you like - I do and have the SII set-up with a ridiculously low action - far too low for most people but I play with a very light touch). Just let me know if you're around Manchester. I agree entirely with BassBus too - there's a lot of sparkle in there and a lot of note definition. You really don't get away with much with a Status!
20. I've had a few Status basses over the years. My Series II was bought new in 1985 - I still use it regularly and it's sat next to me now. I've had a few Streamlines too and still have one. Weirdly, back in the '80s, I had the choice of the Status or a Wal. A Wal might have been worth more now but I've had a number since and they don't last long - they just don't really suit me. As above, the SII still here and is played all the time. As to what you can expect, well with an S2 classic, you can expect a very modern, powerful and focused tone with a rich and detailed fundamental - almost a compressed in a way. though they're a versatile instrument and can offer a range of more 'classic' tones. The mid-scooped slap-tone is certainly there and you'll hear videos all over youtube. As for tuning, it's super-accurate and super-stable. Balance is lovely on the headless instruments, and, if you like a flat D neck profile, then this is the classic Status shape. Fit and finish is of a generally very high standard, fretwork is always good (in my experience), and the brass hardware is well designed and easily adjustable. The SII isn't a light instrument but it looks very classy and isn't ridiculously heavy - there was a lot of graphite in the earlier models (not so much now, and certainly not with the bolt-ons). The notion that Status basses are 'sterile' is commonly held but much over-played in my opinion. There's quite an organic tone available if you're prepared to look for it. I tend to favour the bridge pickup with treble rolled back and bass boosted substantially - through an Avalon U5 on setting 2, this is close to the grail of bass tones for me. Lovely instruments and a company that stands behind its product - very easy to deal with and always helpful should you need anything. I also like Status own brand DBE strings (30-90 is my favoured gauge). Good luck - if you're around Manchester, you're welcome to try my Series II
21. Fantastic cabs - I had a 112 and a 310. I'm pretty sure it's a SI too. I think the SII had Series II printed on the badge

Kriss Popovski

I've just purchased a bass from Kriss - excellent communications throughout, the bass arrived very well-packed and exactly as described. Totally honest and very friendly. Happy to communicate at length and to provide all necessary details. I'd have no hesitation in dealing with Kriss again - any prospective buyers or sellers can feel totally confident
23. I have no objection to fake relicing, but this puts the latter firmly in its box. An extremely cool instrument and cool price (IMO). I'd ask about smoke and pet free but suspect not over the forty years
24. I think this is one of the most beautiful basses I've ever seen - two more strings than I can cope with, but I'd be looking for ways to purchase this otherwise
25. Thanks for all the lovely comments - all PMs answered and some new images added. Sorry, I really don't want to part this out and I'd prefer a collection sale if possible - I can ship but would need a few days to organise a box and courier
