Ahh, good - please do keep us updated, it would be good to know if the reversed DBE resolves the problem. A lot depends on saddle to retainer and nut to post distances I imagine, but worth a try!

You could try reversing a double ball ended string (Status etc.) and snip off the larger ball to leave a straight end for the winding post. I'm assuming here the the bass is short scale (and that the DBE strings have 2 different sized balls). I can send an old DBE E strung if you think this might work? An image would help. An alternative is to ask Newtone for a custom wind set. Another is to sell the bass to me - I love plexi basses! Though I struggle to lift them...

I've owned a custom Shuker and can attest to the quality - as good as anything F-type out there (and certainly as good as the Sadowskys, Fender CS, and Allevas I've had). An absolute bargain in my opinion!

I bought a tort 10 hole from Sims two weeks ago - beautiful (see thread here on tort plates for image). About £90 but custom and gorgeous celluloid nitrate. I have the original Fender left if of interest (though should probably keep it)

Great to see these popping out! An SI and SII within two minutes - both very beautiful. The more I see of the earlier Series basses, the more attractive they become.

I'd have to say that Jazzyvee beat me to it. I was in my mid-late 40s before I was able to find an Alembic. I'd looked and lusted for years but eventually I had enough cash (some hard saving and a lot of bass selling) and for me it was well worth the wait. A bit addictive though! I owned a gorgeous chestnut topped Fodera MG5 and that was sacrificed for a second short-scale Alembic - though I never looked back. We are blessed to have some incredible bass builders around today, each brilliant and special in their own way. For me though, Alembic remain the pinnacle (though I'm sure others would disagree - all part of the fun)
