  1. this is incredibly well-priced IMO - absolute favourite for bass in some big name studios, and the choice of stage DI for some big name pros (personally, I much prefer these to high-end valve DIs). If I didn't have one, I'd have grabbed this ages ago
  2. Lovely bass and I don't want to go too far off-topic, however, I'm pretty sure that there is a niche but serious market for a bespoke ergo/gizmo. If somebody was able to fabricate a tailored/custom, partially adjustable version to fit Alembic small bodied short-scale basses, i'd be willing to pay a realistic price (to reflect the design work and hand-crafting involved). Improving the balance, positioning and playability of an expensive bass is well-worth the additional outlay - to me at least. Scrumpymike, I think your idea is brilliant and I applaud and envy your skills. Of course, any version for Alembics would have to involve no new holes, but the strap pin at the heel offers opportunities for securing any device. A really practical and beautifully executed solution! I wish Alembic had thought of this

  4. I have the original version (G2?) - it's excellent, certainly the effects are of studio quality, but this must be a massive leap forward. I'd love this but it's far beyond my modest effects needs. Worth watching the video in which TC try to destroy the unit by running over it with various forms of wheeled transport, and ultimately a tank. it appears to be roadworthy, to say the least.
  5. You really, really can't go wrong with one of these. Loud, tough, and great tone (if you like the TE thing - I do!) And what a price (IMO!)
  6. I may be talking through my backside (this isn't uncommon) but don't (didn't?) Hiscox undertake to provide extra pads/cushioning to ensure that in-case movement is minimised? I've had loads of Hiscox cases for Js and Ps and nearly all the basses have moved inside the cases. Great product in general but I find that HIscox cases do require additional padding for some/most basses
  7. I had the 5 string in sunburst - beautiful in every aspect - fabulous build quality and very powerful for a passive bass
  8. Nice amps and loads at Glastonbury this year. Sold mine a few years ago (I don't get on with valves) but put a Millennia/Avalon pre up the front of these and a wondrous power amp. For anybody with a valve (pre) preference, possibly the best of the bunch IMO.
  9. This looks to be in amazing condition for its age. I love these - I've just almost no use for it at all and the rational bit of me (the bit that I work hard, and frequently successfully, to suppress) is remaining firm...for now. Incredible price too in my opinion
  10. The HD210 is in every way my favourite cab of all time - these need to be heard to be believed. I moved back to a heavyweight rig after years of messing around with class D amps that never quite cut it for me (I'm not trying to re-ignite old debates here, just a personal preference and I've had some lovely, high-end class Ds that were impressive) - as part of this, I went for a heavier cab too. As soon as I tried the HD210, my tone went from 2D to 3D - a similar experience to playing through high-end, studio main monitors. Absolutely amazing - far and away from anything I've had before (including Berg and Epi 12s and Epi 10s). I'd not thought about two...until now... They're not the lightest cab, but really not difficult at all at 54lbs and in a compact form factor. I was playing bass in the '70s - the notion of a sub 60lb cabinet would have been ridiculous then

  14. Quite a bargain - this sits just below the Europa in the Alembic price list and isn't far from the Sig prices - I'm very surprised that this is still here. I suspect that it balances brilliantly well too.

I can't comment on the HDNs but recently started to use a HD 210 as part of a heavy-weight system (following years of lightweight gear, I came round to thinking that there's something missing, especially in commercial class D - just my opinion of course, and based on my own needs and preferences). The Berg cab was a complete revelation. Miles away from anything that I'd used previously (and I've had some very high cabs and drivers). Beautifully constructed, tonally magnificent - clear, transparent, fast, punchy and deep - and if it matters, aesthetically very pleasing. I can't imagine that any of Berg's cabs involve much in the way of compromise. I'd love to try this HDN but I know that I'd just have to have it!
  16. My Gibson Ripper (built in 1973 I think) was bought by me in 1979 and had been heavily used. It was the most amazing playing/sounding bass I'd ever tried and I'd dreamed of it as it sat in a shop for around 18 months. It was massively customised and re-finished in the next couple of years then used for pretty much every thin 'til my Status Series II arrived in 1985 (I then used both basses 'til I gave up playing seriously around 1990). I still have the Ripper and the Status, both in amazing condition. The former has been around for 38 years. The Status for 32 - both still get played but the Status much more these days - the Ripper is a vey big bass, though it still plays beautifully

  18. Looks like a very convincing re-fin! Is it a Nash re-fin (if so, that can't have been cheap!) and is the pickguard celluloid?
  19. Just a short message of support - my super-heavy Hellborg rig is in for servicing so I went out and bought an old TE 250 head. I've had loads over the years - heavy? Yes, but forget all that when you listen. Absolutely astounding. Nothing like as refined as my main rig, obviously, but power almost without limit and that super-distinctive Trace core tone. Love it. As discussed with the seller - what is it, a 30 second load in/out at most venues - and I use a truck? Well worthwhile in almost all cases. I have class D amps (of the highest order - AER) but there's something that they can't emulate re: class A/B to my ears. These old TE combos are bullet proof and what a price!

I'm back to my old Status Series II and check it about every fortnight. It holds tuning in an almost magical way wherever it is
  21. Bow re-sprayed the neck on my Status SII after it developed that characteristically milky look at the fretboard edges. The quality is nothing short of brilliant. Realistic prices for an incredibly professional job - easy to work with too. I've been told (but can't confirm) that Bow were the original finishers for Status. Mine's an early one so the neck may have been re-finished by the people that sprayed it in the first place (sort of nice if true)
