Am I the only one who doesn't get on with the sadowsky on board preamp

Interesting, 'other way around for me - I was very impressed with the Sadowsky on-board in a NY bass - I found it fairly subtle but very useable and easy to find great tones (I used it with a U5 too) and had some excellent results. I've never really hit it off with East pres (U-retro in particular) though I know that some players love them: too subtle and rather flat/un-coloured for my tastes. The pick-up and pre pairing really matters in my experience and I'm surprised to hear that you're not enjoying the Sadowsky (all a matter of personal taste really) -

These are absolutely beautiful basses - incredibly good fun and playable but with really flexible tonal options and fantastic solidity of construction. Realistically, the only bass I gig these days. I recently did an eight hour slot with one - yes, sore shoulder and back but probably impossible for me with pretty much any other bass. Ergonomics and weight are just perfect. I can't recommend these more highly -

I'm really surprised this hasn't sold - SCs and 5s aren't for everybody but I think this looks beautiful. The spec is amazing and the detailing looks just stunning. I wasn't sure about Shukers until I got hold of one on a whim - every aspect was truly superb - certainly as good as every other top-end UK bass I've played (and that really is a lot). I had a Fodera MG5 too (the obvious inspiration behind this Shuker) and can't imagine that Jon's creation would be inferior in any way. I wish I could engineer a need for this - I'd have absolutely no hesitation. In terms of value for money, to me at least this has to be one of BC's major bargains

Stunning blueshift! Never played a double neck but being a Gordy it will be lovely

I'm pleased that Fodera are addressing the 'lack' in tonal response that frequently characterises other headless instruments. It was a relief to hear too that there's a complementary pack of strings. I'm conflicted now - do I sell my Streamline and go for the MG, or just live with its tonal inferiorities? I'd still have my old Status Series II but it's a great big bulky thing and a lot of people have remarked on its tonal limitations too

now I've calmed down...Binky is very well known to me and a character of the highest integrity. He is also an extraordinary aesthete and talent. I know this bass well and have enjoyed the pleasure of playing it extensively. My erratic, voracious and frequently emotional purchasing behaviour has placed me in a position where - to the detriment of other pursuits and demands - I have enjoyed the privilege of access to an extraordinary feast of the world's most beautiful basses. Vintage Fenders, Wal, Fodera, Celinder, Sei, Alleva Coppolo, Status, Lakland, Pangborn, Shuker, Overwater, Sadowsky, Spector, Fender Masterbuilt and CS, Alembic, Spector...the list of silliness goes on and on. I can, however, claim in all honesty that this Celinder Vintage is among the three most incredible instruments that I have played (in 40 years, and the other two are short-scales) - ergonomics, playability, tone and fit and finish are in a different league. All of my Celinders have been stunning but this stands head and shoulders above each of them. In my opinion, a very special, almost magical bass and the pinnacle of Chrisitian's work

Maybe try Alembic club? Some very knowledgeable and helpful US and European members. Beautiful bass too!
