1. Just one more from the Fab Four Pups...........! http://youtu.be/gfsLB9Dnv1A
 2. This was a David McCallum release in the 60s with David Axelrod as 'producer' but the whole thing is unmistakably Axelrod. http://youtu.be/kaCAFba9G98
 3.
I have just discovered an artist that was previously unknown to me (although the style sounds hauntingly familiar). Anyone know who played bass on these recordings?
Both Song Of innocence & Songs Of Experience are great albums. Other albums like The Big Country, Heavy Axe, Earth Rot, Requiem: The Holocaust & Mass In F Minor (The Electric Prunes) are not as good but interesting as are the David McCallum albums released in the late 60s. A younger generation discovered Axelrod some years ago through his samples on (amongst others) DJ Shadow records and he also had a cd released in 2001 on MoWax.
 4.
Carol Kaye?
+1
 5.
I'd have to say the worst Beatles cover I've ever heard is that bloody awful version of "a little help from my friends" by Joe Cocker. Absolutely f***ing atrocious.
Yes i agree, a truly awful version.
 6.
Jams Blunt, Rocky Raccoon. /thread.
I've never heard that before. That really is dire and at the same time hilarious. Fabulously awful!!!
 7.
Oi no dissing the Shatner. By far the worst Beatles can be found in the recent BBC documentary on the (re)making of the Please Please me album. With one exception they are all absolutely terrible.
+1
 8.
Mr Flyfisher, you really are going to have to realise that not everyone has trawled through every thread ever posted on this forum. Allow for newer members
+1 .....and i don't think that a poll conducted by a digital tv channel is ever going to come up with the definitive answer.
 9.
In Harrods yesterday, they had a beautifully cased bass that was owned by Roger Waters and a guitar that BB. King used. The Roger Waters Fender apparently used during The Wall with Pink Floyd was $9995 and the BB. King Epiphone guitar was only £6995.If i had the money i would buy them even if overpriced. If you are ever in London, it is worth a look as they are peices of art the way they are mounted. It is in the millionaires roww in the technology department
only £6995 ........................ Priceless

 11. There's a beautiful Overwater Aspiration Elite Fretless in the For Sale section http://basschat.co.uk/topic/208028-overwater-aspiration-elite-fretless/
 12. Overwater Tanglewood Aspiration Elite - Lined Fretless I bought this last year. It has never been gigged (or ever out of the house!) and is in nearly new condition. I can't see one mark on it. It comes in it's original box and hanger tag. This is an email i received from Chris May after buying it: I'm pleased you are liking your new bass! The top wood is maple - these basses have been made in small numbers (just a few dozen) - but the spec' is due to change with the next production and we are dropping the solid top at this level of production - so your bass will be fairly unique! :-) 24 Frets, 19mm String Spacing, 40mm Nut 3 Piece Maple Bolt On neck Rosewood Fretboard Ash Body with Maple Top I may be interested in a cheaper fretless with cash my way. UK Courier is £18 You are welcome to come and try it out in Hampton, Middlesex. 13.
The 60's Epiphone guitars seem to be commanding large prices these days I assume that the basses are effectively Gibson basses like their guitar counterparts so it may not be a bad price for it
I could understand it if it was U.S. made Epiphone but this was made in Japan.
 14. Is this the same or similar model? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ec7c3b900 I understand that these were Matsumoku made (that's what i've read on the net but i could be well be wrong) so this one looked like a good buy.
 15.
I always liked the look of those ! You have got some nice basses .
Thanks..............if only i could play them.
 16.
Sure what not. Works for my fireglo 4003.
My Ibanez Verdine White Signature bass has a painted headstock and neck. It's the only bass i have like that but somehow it works.
 17.
Yes: these guys are in a surf guitar band!*: *Was that a bit cheeky?
Yes. They are in the Jazz, Reggae and Folk sections.
 18.
It is and the other thing about surf music, a lot of it is fast, and I mean FAST, you put your head down and you prey you survive! Look at Dick Dale, when he goes out as a trio, the drums, the bass guitar and the guitar are seriously motoring, alot of bands out there doing the "surf" thing are all a little bit twee and a little bit twang, that is the wrong thang! Surf music is good time music that motors, having seen Mr D a fair few time's he remains an inspiration, a point of attitude!
Yes, got to agree 100% about Dick Dale. I think the whole DD story is fascinating especially the Leo Fender, JBL speakers, Tank Reverb etc connections it really was the birth of a new music. I wonder how many people picked up a guitar ofter seeing him? From the lps and cds i have and from memory there was the sanitised and respectable side of surf music and the other side where the groups were more like instrumental garage groups. Exciting stuff indeed.

 20. http://youtu.be/CmSN25HLQBM Oh sorry i thought you said the best Beatles cover.
 21. I always liked Alma Cogan and always thought that at least she made the song totally different to the original. She was friends with the Fab Four so i wonder what they thought of it? This is one of my favourite Fabs covers............ http://youtu.be/1yJajJ_B5R4
 22.
YEP, had a band called Pulp Friction, formed after the film that inspired the name, did very good business for a year or so, got horns, trumpet, sax, did the sound track, interspersed with dialogue quotes, played guitar in that one, Dick Dale influenced playing is a forte of mine, great fun music to play, the secret to playing good surf music is to go with the flow and the buzz of the audience, don't try to be to regimented or to tight let it flow.
That's really interesting thanks. I've been listening a lot recently to surf musicians on podcasts etc and when interviewed enjoyment is always a big part of it. It's generally happy and good time music and that shines through when the musicians are interviewed.
 23.
Because of the musical overlap we have done some gigs with "purer" surf bands. They always seem to have a lot of fun and the guitar parts are great. If you're not already you should join the Mosrite forum Here's my "surfiest" guitar, a Hallmark Wing-Bat:
Yes i like Los Straitjackets and the Wing Bat is indeed surftastic!!!!!
