1. Peter Cetera has been mentioned on here in the past but he probably isn't 'fashionable' at the moment. Just like basses, bass players go in and out of fashion. I'm sure there are many bass players around today who were influenced by him. I bought that first Chicago Transit Authority LP way back in 1969 and it still sounds great to me. Cetera and Jim Fielder of Blood Sweat & Tears are probably the two bass players that made me take a real interest in the bass guitar. Both were excellent players.
 2. Any post revived from 2010 has got to be worth a look.
 3. If nothing else, this place is still as predictable as ever.
 4.
But aren't Interparcel merely a broker. They send your parcel with one of the following couriers as shown on their website: UPS TNT FedEx Express Parcelforce DPD Post NL City Link Hermes Collect Plus ETS CitySprint
Yes but if you send through them then you deal solely with them. You can choose the carrier but your contract is with Interparcel and NOT the carrier. I've used nearly all of the couriers and they are all about the same in my experience. Sometimes they are great and sometimes they are awful.
 5. The best courier is the one that gets your item there safely and on time and the worst courier is the one that delivers your item damaged or it goes missing. They are all much about the same and i've used them all. I have had great and appalling results with Interparcel for example where they have delivered on time and also where the item went 'missing' only for it to turn up SEVENTEEN days later! They are all as good and bad as each other. All you can do is keep your fingers crossed and hope.
 6.
What went wrong with the polyester finish? Did it somehow go manky in transit?
It seems that the polyester finish couldn't handle the climate changes in the U.S. meaning that a lot of the Baldwin era guitars and basses were refinished after they arrived in the U.S.
 7. ...and not forgetting the problems they had with the polyester finish when they arrived stateside.
 8. I agree with BigRedX. It looks like a Baldwin 516 Bison which was basically a re-badged Burns Bison for the American market.
 9.
Bargain of the year! Black SB1000 for £355 http://cgi.ebay.co.u...em=201049381778
It was £600 when i looked and the postage was £45.97!!!
 10.
I didn't realise that his sales were restricted to one album per person ...
I always bought at least 10 copies of each of his albums.
 11.
I'm sure it was. Okay if you have absolutely no conscience or sense of shame and didn't mind being in the service of the very devil himself. James Last hammered more nails in to the coffin of good music than Midge Ure and the entire Live Aid concert. I just hope those musicians who had a hand in that conspiracy have difficulty sleeping at night.. just like the poor victims who were subjected to James Last records by cruel, heartless mothers in the satellite towns and conurbations of this great nation of ours.
I can honestly say that i'd rather have seen the James Last Orchestra than been subjected to most of those who appeared at Live Aid (Queen most definitely included in that). I'd rather have people listening to James Last than nothing at all if only for the chance that somehow, somewhere someone might think that by listening to Hansi that they might want to discover some other forms of music. I admit that it's long musical journey from James Last to Sun Ra to the Globe Unity Orchestra but it could happen.
 12.
I don't quite know how to reply to this... other than to say I sincerely believe from the bottom of my heart that James Last is MUSIC FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE MUSIC.
Yeah, you could well be right but he did have some really excellent musicians in his bands over the years. For any pro musician in the 70s and 80s it was obviously a very good gig to get.
 13.
I was brought up mainly on this...which probably explains a lot...if not everything.
Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but Hansi had some excellent musicians in his band over the years.
 14.
Never saw Bees Make Honey. Eddie & the Hot Rods at the Marquee in '78 was a great gig. The place was absolutely rammed, the hottest I've ever been at a gig - came out and my shirt was literally drenched with sweat
You're spot on about the Marquee. I think even in the coldest winter it was still a sweatbox. I remember seeing the Feelgoods there once and a bloke spilt a pint of lager all down the back of a girl in front of us and she hardly noticed as everyone was soaked in sweat anyway.
 15.
Watched this last night and realised I think I saw just about every single band on the show live!
Me too. My favourites were the Feelgoods, Eddie & The Hot Rods and Ducks Deluxe. Bees Make Honey were also one the best on the London pub circuit. It was great time to be around London for that sort of music.
In all seriousness, we've only been doing video demos for the last year or so and any feedback is appreciated. If you ever need more info than you're getting from the video content feel free to drop me a PM or an email at [email protected] and I'll be happy to help you out.
I've bought a few things from GAK and always found the service great. I actually like the way the demo videos are done so keep 'em coming!
 17. Nice and smooth indeed. Doesn't seem very Northern Soul though.
 18.
My dad listened to Jazz and Classical. I think that is why i hate that type of music
The terms Jazz and Classical cover many types of music. Are you sure you hate it all?
 19. Suzy Creamcheese, honey, what's got into ya?
 20. I've had a couple of these basses over the years and after a set up were basses that could be gigged and were certainly far superior than any bass i've ever seen sold in Woolworths in the 60s/70s.
 21.
Just about to put my 5-stirng T-Bass up for sale.
I can't see it in the 'Basses for sale' section.
 22.
That's a bugger; you could have a Dansette for a nixer. I hauled one off to the charity shop about a fortnight ago. The stacker didn't work but everything else did. And despite the fact it runs off an EL84 and I had a new stylus, it sounded like absolute sh*t. Apparently they sell on the Bay for £100+, twice that for the rarer Red / Cream or Royal Blue versions. 19 gns it cost in the early 60's which is about£350,000 in today's money.

I can help you there, I've a couple of those knocking about for drunken comedy DJ nights at home. You can have them for 350,000 the pair.
I don't have £350,000 but i already have a Dansette (a nice two-tone blue one) and hundreds of 45s. The sound may not be the greatest but for example the Fab Four have never sounded better to me. In fact i insist on playing all of the mopped topped ones recordings i have on it. I use Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da as a reference for all the vinyl i [s]chuck[/s] put on the Dansette. If that sounds good then anything that follows will be o.k.
