1.
There are ongoing residual issues! What I omitted from the original story was that City Link, whilst spending a week NOT picking up the amp from me, actually attempted to deliver a 50kg pallet of shelving components to my amp buyer, apparently from me. Not surprisingly, he refused to accept it. What did I get "returned" to me yesterday (while I was out)? A 50kg pallet of shelving components! No invoices or anything. Oh, and it was so badly packed by the mystery sender that it's damaged. I phoned City Link to ask what's going on and they haven't a clue. Somewhere out there, someone is out of pocket, and someone is missing their shelving.
I sent a bass with City Link via Interparcel recently. I took NINE days to deliver it from London to Somerset. During that time it was 'lost' for most of that time until amazingly it was delivered.
 2.
Think my point was it depends on what your definition of 'cool' is.
Whatever 'cool' is it certainly isn't an artificially 'road worn' bass. Now on the other hand if you wanted to define 'naff'.
 3.
wasn't it a bass clarinet??
He played the Saxophone as well.

 10.
He still is!
Couldn't say as i haven't seen him live for a few years but i reckon he was at his best the late 80s to early 90s.

 12. Mick Karn was great. A wonderful bass player who didn't seem to conform to any musical style. I saw him live with David Torn who was again another great musician. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld1nhs4r28Q
 13.
Really? I've been watching Travis Bean basses for the last 10 years and that's one of the cheapest I've seen - especially considering it's already in the UK.
I've seen them cheaper in the U.S. in the last ten years bit not lately. In the 90s they weren't very desirable and i know of two that hung on the walls of music shops for months with little or no interest shown to them. In those days they were probably not old enough to be vintage and too quirky for most buyers. Great basses though that are now both vintage and fashionable.
 14. Looks like it's been relisted http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SHERGOLD-MARATHON-STEREO-BASS-GUITAR-1980-MADE-IN-ENGLAND/301073538831?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D286%26meid%3D4225116107163340427%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1048%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D121257151823%26
 15. I store my 1974 Fender Jazz Bass neck by screwing it onto my 1974 Fender Jazz Bass body and leaving it propped up in the corner of my living room. It works for me.
 16.
Sold and on its way to a new owner.
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/187198-please-mark-your-item-soldtraded-when-the-deals-done/
 17. Basses as decoration only? Just like the majority of vintage basses that end up in collections then.
 18.
I've imported a number of basses from the States over the years. By my calculations, the GPP charges were exactly the same as the import duty and VAT I would have had to pay to receive the goods myself. That said, the shipping costs were a little on the high side. When the item first appeared on eBay, GPP wasn't being offered, and on contacting the seller they quoted me $190 to ship insured using their own carrier. The price of the bass was a bit too high anyway, and it didn't sell. They relisted it at a lower price, at which point GPP was introduced to the listing, but shipping was $225. All in all, it worked out fine cost-wise, as I had none of the hoopla and delays of waiting for customs clearance and then having to pay the duty before the bass is released to me. My only concern is the lack of tracking and the pitiful method of final delivery! I'm assuming eBay are making money on the whole shipping process by cutting costs to the bone by using the cheapest delivery agents throughout, but that will undoubtedly end in tears for some unfortunate buyers. As I said, I think I've been lucky, and I won't use GPP again. Whether sellers have the option to ship the item themselves if the listing stipulates GPP and the buyer doesn't want to use it, I don't know. I'm guessing that eBay give the seller a financial incentive to use GPP in the first place.
That's very interesting. I've imported a good number of items from the U.S. over the years but never using the eBay Global system so that information is good to know. Thanks.
 19. I've seen a few relic'd guitars and basses that look as if they were found washed up on a riverside.
 20. Like a lot of music it depends what are when it was released and you heard it or if you first heard it some years after it's release. That has a massive effect on how you may view it. Million Dollar Babies was just another LP by a pop group of the time. Nothing wrong with that but it's not what i would have chosen to listen to at the time. I would imagine that on it's release it was bought mainly in the UK by kids in their early teens so put it firmly in the Top Of The Pops teeny listening bracket.
 21. Great basses that no one wanted a few years ago. Not fashionable at all back then and shops couldn't shift them. Now they are fashionable again and have been discovered presumably by buyers that were to young too remember them when they were new then i wonder if they actually get played or are just hung on a wall by collectors?
 22.
I've just received a bass I bought from a eBay seller in the States, who sent it using the new eBay system. It was a bit unclear how it all worked, but the idea of paying all the shipping and duty up front to speed things along, so no hoops would need to be jumped though to get through customs etc.
How did going through the eBay Global Postage Programme compare to if you had imported it yourself? Was it cheaper or more expensive?
 23. Sorry but missed a lot of this thread as i've just been testing my new Fast Sports Car that i build recently from these plans........... ...... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Make-Build-Fast-Sports-Car-Standard-Auto-Parts-Custom-Auto-Speed-Power-/380800641885?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58a97cab5d
