3.
Yes a funk thread! Bootsy kills on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQFYJXMVxTc
It could well be Bootsy i think that might be Billy Nelson on that track. Billy, Bootsy & Jeff Bunn all played bass on that LP. Great stuff though whoever it is!!!
 4.
I was very sorry to read on Wikipedia that the bass player/ singer featured on this track was murdered in 1992, apparently.
Yes indeed. Here's another taken too soon. The great Lady T with Rick James http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JunJqXglfI0
 5. The pub down my road closed. It used to be the place to go. Times change. We move on.
 6.
Excellent VFM: http://www.guitar-ba...6mrjp-fretless/
I had a Vintage VJ96 and they are fantastic value for the money. 10/10 P.S. It is also the lightest full scale bass i've ever owned.

 11.
This looks rather nice.
That's a very strange site. It seems to think that i'm in Slovenia but the language is in Afrikaan. Even when i change it to English it reverts back to Afrikaan.
 12.
You know you'll only get a limited sound from flatwound strings, so why not just put them on a cheap passive bass instead of a vintage P? Here's my thing: I've got a Korean Squier Jazz that I put LaBella 760FLs on, and replaced the tone pot with a push/pull that will put it in series (and replaced the tone cap with a .1uF so it'll do reggae), but yeah, with the tone wide open it's got a genuinely perfect soul tone, can't imagine anything ever sounding any better, and so I wonder: Why does anybody spend so much to get that sound?
BTW, what's a 'genuinely perfect soul tone'? It may be best to actually explain before continuing.
 13.
I've got one bass I keep strung with flats for when I want that sound, it's just it's a pretty primitive sort of sound isn't it, so you don't need an expensive bass to get it.
Just like any other strings then.
 14.
- are heavy - have a good sound which sits tight in the mix - have quite comfy necks - have a decent quality for the price
All the above apart from the neck. Mine had the thickest neck i've ever seen on a bass. It was not only chunky in width but also in depth. A strange beast indeed.
 15.
no ... THIS is proper dressing up
Yes you are correct. That really is the real thing.

 19.
Outstanding. You could also play 'Piece Of Crap' by Neil Young. Or even 'Who Hid The Halibut On The Poop Deck' by Yogi Yorgesson.
I like that discreet. That will definitely be on my set list.
 20.
What do you mean its a baritone, why you... oh, hang on..
21.
If you fill it with horse crap it will be good for country AND western! *Runs away*
...and i could play the intro of the film Get Carter on it as Dung...Dung, Dung, Dung, Dung. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO0dHPhDuLs I thank you!!!
 22. I'm amazed that this thread didn't turn out to be the usual 'it's a baritone' 'no it's a bass' debate. Well done BCers for resisting.
 23.
It will be better for rock if you do that. ... maybe you should just fill it with actual rock, then it will be perfect for it.
I did want to fill it with hardcore but after searching for 'hardcore supplier' on the internet i think i'll just stick to concrete.
 24. As someone who watched a lot of Pub Rock in London in the 70s i would have loved, no make that payed money to see anyone offer advice on how to play to The 101ers or The Stranglers. I can just see what Joe Strummer's reaction would have been to a bit of 'advice' and Hugh and JJ just standing there while someone told them of their musical shortcomings before they threw him through the pub doors.
 25.
Is it really that important to use the correct fingering?
No, you can use any finger but just make sure you poke him in either eye with it then tell him to %^*& off.
