I thought it had a decent reputation now, early models might not have been reliable and while it isn't the most exciting I thought it looked really good value?

[/quote] Yes the head is very light, i could easily do one trip with a bass and amp then a second trip with the 1x15. The 4x10 is a bit heavier though and I wouldn't want to carry it far on my own. I suspect most gigs will be the 15 on it's own.

I'm well used to lugging heavy gear around - my guitar gigs are with a marshall super lead or jubilee half stack, or a friedman asm active cab that is heavier than a Fender twin. I had planned to get a simple grab and go lightweight combo but as the full stack (head, 4x10, 1x15) is less than the fee for 2 gigs I'll probably grab it. Maybe sell the 15 cab or flip the whole rig once I've done these gigs. I guess my real question is - if you were offered it for next to nothing would you think it sounds great but the tradeoff is weight and size or dismiss it as old and so outclassed by modern gear in terms of sound.

Thanks chaps, when I used to gig these as the PA, they were paired with an active sub on each side so they didn't needed to push any lows. I've seen plenty of cheap amps so I'm leaving these for occasional vocal monitor duties.

As I'm looking for a new amp, I was offered an old Marshall Jubilee rig today - 300w 4x10 and 1x15 cabs, (In Black rather than the grey finish). Any opinions? I was thinking of something like a tc or gk 2x10 or 1x15 combo so this is a lot bigger than I had planned but it's pretty cheep so I'm tempted. For typical small/medium functions/parties with decent pa support.

I've got a few bass gigs coming up and I was looking to buy an amp - typical small/medium functions and parties. I have a few active cabs from my PA - db opera 415 and thought I could use one of those with a preamp - I've got an atomic amplifire that would do. Any thoughts or am I going to sound thin and I would be better just buying a dedicated bass amp?

Quick update - I just bought a yamaha trb1005. It was local and a good price so thought I'd grab it. Initial thoughts are that it's really well made and sounds great but I'm not sure if I'll adjust to the string spacing that seems a little wider than I'd like but that might be a case of getting used to a 5.

Possibly a daft question and I'm doing something wrong - I'm curious how well everyone is finding the transmitter sticks to the guitar (or more likely bass)? I think it's a great unit - sounds perfect, batteries last ages - it works a treat and I'm very impressed, but mine doesn't seem to stay in place. I've tried it on several guitars (PRS, strat, les paul). Chris very kindly sent me a couple of more sticky pads but which was very generous and impressive customer care, but no difference. Is there a trick to making them more sticky that anyone has found?

I had thought of them but that price puts me into the same money as something even better used or a MM sire and I'd love a lakland (a mate has a few that I really like) but if these cheapo's are going to fall apart or have the necks bend and warp then it might be a cheap way in. I fancy trying a 5 string again, it isn't worth spending a lot to see if I can into it. How does the neck feel - compared to a Lakland? I was toying with looking for a cheap skyline 5 but could be tempted to try a sire instead.

I can't comment on the basses, but I have an emerald double neck acoustic. The quality is fantastic, it sounds and play superb and it holds it's tuning very very well. I would expect the basses to be equally great.

I use my thr10 for guitar and bass. Out the 11 amps currently in the house it gets the most use - pretty much everyday it's used for practising or learning tunes, I think they are great. Hopefully Yamaha are about to announce a bigger version that could be used out of the house.

I bought my MIJ Geddy Lee to replace my MIJ 62 reissue and Mexican standard jazz because of the neck. It would be a real shame if the new US model has deviated a lot from that shape. it's the slimmest jazz neck I've played and super comfortable.

If it's to plug a passive bass into with no other pedals than I higher impedance is better, if it's to go after a buffered pedal than a low imp type is fine, I bought a cheap Ernie Ball 25K as it was going at the end of a pedal chain so works fine. Ernie Ball are great (I have two) and the jr version saves a bit of space. Dunlop and Boss 500 are good. The smaller boss is plastic but still ok. Morley are nice as well but need power. tbh it's hard to go wrong but I'd have a think about whether you need a tuner output (handy), metal or plastic construction and if powering it would be a pain.

I've used a variety of active cabs in PA's and they can be handy for a quick setup if you have a desk your happy with. For that price you should be able to find a decent pair - RCF, Mackie, db etc. but I wouldn't run the full band through them - for vocals and a tiny bit of backline spread they'll be fine. If you want any serious low end from a kick drum and bass then you really need some subs to go with them. If your budget is fixed and do want the whole band to go through the PA then I'd look at an older system with passive cabs and power amps - you could grab something like a set of peavey hisys cabs and a 2600 power amp (or two). More bulk to move around and not quite as hifi sounding as some more modern lightweght rigs but they are pretty reliable and can do gig and gig. or get the active tops now and add some subs later.
