2.
haha sorry, i've still not got the right router bit yet! I should really do that soon...
Hey, any news?
 3.
The few shops we have around York have left me with a mixed bag of impressions. Awesome service and banter to disdain and a quick exit. Odd spectrum.
The difference I find is the shops with a good manager and regular staff are way better than the classical shop with thr guitar basement employing saturday staff. In recent years Ive had excelent service from Mor in York, and had a few bargains too. A regular customer gets the best discounts.
 4. Thanks guys for putting this one together!
A good turnout and well organised. Thanks guys was well worth the trip Andy
Sorry we couldnt get the tools together to look at the preamp Andy, hopefully you can get a tech to have a look?
Thanks for organising a great event chaps. Heres to 2011 Really good to put names to faces, and really enjoyed spending time with you all
Yep - and that hollow Gibby was just awesome! Gonna have to get me a shorty mudbucker bass... Also, sorry for subjecting you to my avant guard eating style.
 5.
i can do if you'd like
Cheers!
 6. Ok, is anyone planning on taking a set of allen keys with them? Ive got two sets burried somewhere in the house, and I probably wont find them till I move house again.
 7.
Mikey - you planning to bring your fanned five? I'd love to see that

definatly mate! is your shuker course bass coming?
Yep - both will be along. Though Im having a few problems getting them set up - since moving house, I cant find me allen keys!
 8. Excelent! Look forward to seeing these take shape
 9.
rich, are you taking the bass in your avatar? it's a beaut!
I cant remember if youve already said - is the Taitycaster coming along?
 10. I like those odds... Keith, are you collecting other items for the draw like last year? Ive tracked down that bass book I couldnt find for the SE bash - though at this rate I'll just be winning it right back.
 11. Im not sure if I'll be able to make a London bash, but if I did then I'd guess those of us training in from further away would prefer somewhere with a tube or rail station close by.
 12. I thought you can spray the RPC? Brush on, I bet it takes ages to sand out. Im avoiding gloss finishes for that reason - Im way too lazy.
 13. We need pictures!
 14.
Oh, and Jon is hoping to present it to me at the Yorkshire Bash Bash, so that's yet another reason to come along to it!!!
Excelent! Im looking forward to seeing it
 15.
I understand the transport or turnaround reasons, and tha's fine, but if you don't own a giggable amp you shouldn't be gigging.
Most amps are giggable at a pinch - I did a load of gigs when I were a nipper wi' nowt but a 30 watt Laney Linebacker. It really was rubbish, but bass can be DI'd and guitar cabs are likely going to be mic'd anyway. You cant hear each other but you get by. If the sound engineers no good it probably makes no difference anyway. Obviously, thats if theres a full PA. Without one, youre stuck. Nowadays, if I knew the venue had decent foldback, I could imagine turning up with just a decent DI box. Thats if I had a DI box of course. EDIT: oh, and a band. Pretty essential, that.
 16.
If you're going to use a print out make sure that your printer is actually outputting to the correct size. Most cheap (sub £500) printers are at least 0.5% if not more out which might will make a difference to the scale length at the very least. I'd go with a good steel rule used within it's temperature tolerance and a sharp knife for marking.
Good point! I used the A4 printer at work - nobody knows where the A1 printer is - and checked the scale length before starting. Im still looking for a print shop - no luck over the weekend.
 17. I'll bring along the brown and blue basses, but I doubt I'll be able to drag the Hartke 15" combo onto the train. But I guess theres going to be way more interesting amps at the bash than mine so thats ok.
 18. Just out of interest, what saw are you planning on using to cut the slots? The kerf needs to match the width of the fret tang almost exactly. I got an inexpensive gents saw and removed the set with a hammer. Its probably due a sharpenning now which will be a bit of a challenge, cross cut with no set may be tricky. Alternatively, there may be Japanese saws that have the correct kerf width. Depends if you get on with the pull stroke thing - I just cant seem to get it.
 19. I just use FretFind: http://www.fretfind.ekips.org/ Just print out the PDF then prit-stik it to your fingerboard. I line a block of maple next to each line to guide the saw and keep it square. You can print it out on multiple sheets of A4 - thats what I did - but Ive been looking for a print shop that can print out the whole thing on one sheet. Good luck!
 20.
So, be careful when doing simple mods like changing pickups, GAS may get you in the end.
But remember, the pickups were still a bargain
 21. What materials are you planning on using? Those bodys are certainly not mahogany! Love the Jag / Thunderbird hybrid - very interested to see these finished!
 22. you could even buy the board pre slotted. Dave does this for around £10 i believe.
 23.
Hello Al, thanks for the tip....I already have the book. Some of it is a little confusing for me though, though there are some excellent tips. I got all confused at the truss rod bit, but after talking to David at David Dyke he recommended his truss rod that comes in an aluminium U section and tightens on its self. so all i need to do is route a straight channel. Hope it's that easy. Any tips on the best saw to get for cutting fret slots, and how to build a good jig? All the best, g
Hi Thunderpaws - I agree with Al, read all you can about the subject. I dont own that particular book, Ive got this one as I was thinking of building an acoustic and eded up building a solid body, but the principles are the same. Theres also tonnes of stuff you can find online. Dave is a top bloke, Ive bought from him several times and he's even recommended alternative suppliers even when he's got what Im after in stock but is a bit busy to get me the stuff that week. Highly recommended!
 24. Here ya go: <smug>Mine</smug> For me, it takes the whole P bass simplicity thing a step further by getting rid of the tone ot. Just pickups, a volume pot and a jack socket. Sounds like it sounds, if you dont like it then tough! EDIT: forgot to add, the pickup is a little further south than on a standard Fender P, so it sounds grindy but just that little bit brighter.
 25.
PM replied and Sold pending the usual, cheers Rick! Mikey, will give you a bell at the weekend, have some suggestions!
Cheers Mert, looking forward to it! Well done on the quick sale
