1. Hi energy gig, fantastic. Keep it loud, lively, dont stop for more than uttering the song name. Long time since ive done a gig in a bouncing sweat pit, just enjoy it , it will be a blast. Heres a clip of an old b52's gig..... 5:30 in i would kill to be in that band , totally epic vibe. http://youtu.be/DnU3WoQZHJE
2. On the back of this positivity for the eb cobalts ive commited to giving them a whirl. I bought a new (76) jazz bass which im itching to set up so new strings are a must! Even went out and bout some new imperial allen keys today Im easily pleased.
3. The genre is indeed still alive and well..... A friend of mine is a rediculassly talented pro/ session guitarist who has just released his 2nd solo album which appears to be doing great! (And it is too) His solo stuff is under the monika "the Dave" , but dave foster has played with mr so&so, tours regularly with steve Rothery band (ex marillion) and regular guest slots with Panic Room. Check him out https://thedave.bandcamp.com/track/ache https://thedave.bandcamp.com/
4. Silly and regretable further reduction £1050 Insanely good bass at this price.
5. Still available at £1100 New bass is here now so no trades sorry.... Will courrier but buyer must use courrier and insure fully.
6.
This has probably been done, another thread just made me think of it though.. Mine was a black Marlin slammer P-Bass copy with a maple fingerboard. Bought for £25 in 1988. I now know it was an awful Bass, but at the time I didn't know any different and I did some serious learning on that thing! Often wish I still had it, just for nostalgia.
SNAP! My first bass was a marlin slammer p bass copy, and yes a million mikes away from what i now use but i do owe that plank much gratitude as i learnt to play on it, performed in excess of 1500 gigs with it and recorded twice with it. I was very young and money was tight. When i did eventually change/upgrade it was to a bass collection which was an excellent bass paid for with a little cash my dear old nan left me when she hung her knitting needles up. First amps are interesting one..... I had a huge H and H hw100 combo, as big as a washing machine and has a neon green back lit panel long before trace elliot ever existed Happy days
7. Would be great to try the feel of other strings members use to save me forking out a kidney just to try other makes ? Would love to hear some other pickups too! Sounds like a great opportunity to me as up to now i have zero point of reference on the gear i use !
8. Seen a beat up but servicable 3/4 bass on facebook today fir £125!!! Yes, thats right. Sold in minutes sure, but i have seen a few at 2-300 quid that seem ideal for starters. Bass players market uk on fb, put a post up asking if anyone has a cheap one for sale, ir of course check the classifieds here. I took the plunge early january and manage to buy a stentor 1950's with a broken neck. I repaired it quite easily with a repair that is practically invisable. Veryvery strong too. Its solid and will not fail ever again i am quite certain. I put a post in the db section with photos, it was a most enjoyable project. So, i now have a bass i am properly connected too, in an almost organic kind of way, which i love. It plays great and i have taken to it well. So well infact i havent played eb with the band at all. Do it. You wont regret it. ( please note, i did have to buy a new car to transport it though hahahaha)
9. Flats forever ! The association of certain strings for certain basses is a funny thing.... I had for a long time just gone with the autonomous format of flats on me jazz and rounds on me music man, i guess even more to the point, flats on me passive bass and rounds on me active.... What a silly boy i had been. Id just always, for no good reason, used rounds on my music man sterling or stingrays, just did ??? I had flats on my passive jazz and loved them but one day the penny dropped, what if i put flats on my sterling ? Oh my god, i will never go back. I know many if the greats used stingrays with flats on but the yjought just never crossed my mind because id been doing it a certain way fir so long. My sterling with flats is just the best playing bass ive ever owned. Never shall we be parted !!! Never tried tapes though?
10. Still available.... Not really in a position for trades right now guys , sorry
11. I dont mind them wanting to see it, hell ill even play it for them just as long as they dont loose or squash it ! Next saturday is d day ! Im going armed with a roll of gaffa and as much bubble wrapp as i can stuff in my rucksack/hand luggage.
12. Id dearly love to try them, i toyed between the evah perazzi's and these when i bought my strings ( first upright/ new venture)... I went fir the evahs but it niggles me to try the roto's for feel. Wrong time for me though cash wise Bummer Glwts
13. Usa ernie ball mm sterling, i do believe it to be the one ..... I have others but this just brings so much ease it in playabilty it makes all others just seem cumbersome .... Honestly, its effortless! And sounds frickin great. Got to be one of the most overlooked basses out there, if you ever get the chance i urge you to spend 5 minutes with one!
14. His more recent album " no frills" was great, great guitar pickist
15. I could set up a support group as a good will gesture ?
16. Guys, these comments have given me some proper good belly laughs. Im sorry for luring you in, yes it is the human condition. I wanted it to stop, but i just couldnt turn it off through the intreuge of wondering if it could get any worse or if there was some wonderfull high light yet to come. Once i realised i couldnt unhear it or calm the trauma it caused me i selfishly mislead you all through the one way turn style to audio purgatory.
17.
Fred bump. Just seen this on Facebook. Looks like the 80's and Dennis Smith is using a JD. It sounds lovely. (looks like he is a mastering engineer these days, also has him down for 'The Riddle'. Not sure how accurate this page is though. https://www.discogs....-Dennis-Smith-2 A rearranged classic.
5:42 Drummer has a bit of a hiccup, timed perfectly with mr kershaws "come on, you can do better than that".... Priceless.
18. Here's a fantastic version of wouldnt it be good, brass is excellent http://youtu.be/oqc8BdGlxGg
19. My god, i cant unhear it, please help.... https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=AcibYABRm9E
