Gauge, string and action all can produce big changes... Play around with them all...
Couldnt agree more than with these points, action and string height affect tone, in my op, far greater than many realise... Low action is great for ease but man alive you loose some poke. -

There are some fundamental differences in these types of gigs..... Charity gig - a charity night for a cause where they've had a function and booked a band . In essence it's a function gig for free. No body has come to see you play, they've come to support the charity. Charity gig - a gig put on by a band, publicised, tickets sold to people who wish to come and see the band play. This is a normal gig but you hand over the cash to the charity yourselves. Typically this is something you want to do, much different than the above despite the outcome being similar. Battle of the bands - usually rigged, publicity or promotion for an upcoming band, put on by someone with a some typically tenuos link to the band..... Ŷou can put this type of gig on yourselves if you have the time to arrange and facilitate it..... Self promotion, multiple performances each bringing their own little audience resulting in a cumulative large audience/ exposure. When you play for free, someone somewhere makes a gain, most times. Make sure it's you or your band

I looked at the pic of this bass for a while and dispite it being both beautifully and tastefully made something just puzzled me , I don't want to say "it didn't look right" because it so so does.... But it just looked different. A way I couldn't put my finger on...... the penny dropped when I read the discription and the pick up situation ! Hahaha I scrolled back up the screen on my iPad to look at the pic again..... No pick ups ! Hahahah Glwts -

Honest to god , this is a rediculas bargain, people I can't tell you how good these basses are..... Playability is fantastic, sound is better than a stingray in my op..... Nice short feel but with same scale length, like a ray on roids with a jazz neck ! Put flats on it and I guarantee it be one of the slickest bass out there. I have many basses, all off which where cased never to see the light of day again the day I got my sterling. If I didn't have one already I'd snatch your hand off for this at this price. Do not confuse this with the "sterling by musician" .... A million miles apart. Good luck with the sale buddy. -
I'm in the process of purchasing another bass.... I'm near Liverpool, the bass is in Northern Ireland. I read a load of posts on couriers etc and with the value of the bass would likely have to insist on going for one of the higher priced/ insured options.. I mulled it over, checked costs of flights and I've decided to cut out the middle man and fly to Ireland myself to collect it. 19 quid there, 40 back with the bass.... I'd have happily paid £60 for a decent courier so this way I'm happier that I can do a face to face deal with the cash and not have the bass out of mine and the sellers hands and enter a 3-4 day black hole of worry The madness of it is, I can fly to Belfast , do the deal, fly home all in less time then I am normally gone for when I just "nip to the guitar shop love....."

Thats it, im committed! Flights are booked.... Ive bought many basses over the years, never flew overseas to make the purchase before ! Whats more, i can be there and back in less time than i usually soend when i disapear to the guitar shop on a saturday afternoon !

Hey guys..... Im in the process of buying a bass.... 76 jazz... Im in liverpool, the bass is in belfast. Flights are rediculasly cheap, £9.99 there, £20 back.. My options are £20 to put it in tbe hold, or try and blag it onboard... I looked to see if i could buy it a seat but airline (flybe) says only violins/trumpets onboard or cellos as they can be strapped in. Im confident i can take enough tape/ bubble wrapp over in my hand luggage to do a good job but if i can have it not leave my sight at all, then all the better. Its in an skb type fender case, rectangle. Ill tape clasps up and put a strap around. Questions. If i book for my 20kg of hold luggage, it cost the same as a seat ! But will i turn up and then them say no its got to be booked in specifically as an instrument? If i ask can i board it at the gate, is this the final check point before the gantry ? Im concerned of more risk of it being left behind being set aside and dealt with outside of the norm ? Short flight, small plane, unlikley to have large storage actually on board ? Any hoo, its a bit of an adventure

Use flat wound strings. Zero screech, fabiulous geel and a true bass tone. Yes yes yes rounds are great too i know i know..... Addressing your tec is great of course, but glats wont "comprimise" your tone in any way at all. They may change it (to less zingy) but i certainly wouldnt regard the change as a comprimise. Daddario chromes are a good starter for flats, tension is good, feel great... And slap tone just ooozes old school vibe. Try them , 25 quid ish.... Play them. Dont make any immediate decisions, live with them a while..... Some folk aren't so keen but there are plenty who will never go back

Looking for some guidance on courriers.... All seems a bit bleek here I have no issue with packaging a bass in a bomb proof manor, im more concerned with tge reliability of the service ? Are any of them reputable by ANY means ? Im slso having trouble getting prices ? When i pit in the dimensions and weight they all say its too big ? Surely to god they will take somthing the size of a bass hard case ? Help please !

Ill be happy to do business... Couple of fresh enquiries this weekend which ive responded to but awaiting replies.... When i bought this bass i fell instantly in love with it, it ticked every box.... Well, almost...... Before it came along i had decided on the things i wanted in terms of a "final purchase".... I had decided on buying a jazz made the same year i was born, 1976.i was fairly fixed on that untill this hitrod came along. WoW! It looked epic, so right in terms of what i like, burst/tort/rosewood etc and icing on the cake was the bloc inlays and bridge. Looks is one thing, but wheni picked it up and played it , it had a tone that was just unbeleivable and it played like the best set up bass just how i like it. So your thinking, why on earth are you selling it ? Well, i honestly dont know if im doing the right thing, i vey well may likley regret it..... Genuine, not sales bulshiz.... Anyway, in the back of my mind i was torn, i knew deep down I would always hanker for the 1976 jazz and i knew that if i didnt go there and try it for myself i would be forever torn and dement myself. So, i made the decision there and then that i would not risk marking this hot rod jazz in any way as it would be going up for sale.... As soon as i knew i was not keeping it i became reluctant or almost afraid to use it.... Fear of marking it, fear of liking it and having that change if heart complicating things further ! so i put it in its case and there it has stayed. I get so hung up over purchases I picked up a MM sterling as an inbetweener bass, which as it happens has turned out to be a remarkable instrument and one i dont think ill part with. Anyway, i hope that explaination provides understanding as to why some one would sell something they regard so highly ! I had a couple of enquiries this weekend, one trade, one cash asking price but tricky delivery abroad.... So not quite there... In light of the enquiries i got the bass out and had an hour on it at home, gotta say ......man it sweet !! Someone, please.... Put me out of my misery ! -
Glad to read things are back on track for you buddy

What's the best practice amp for my requirements?
Wonky2 replied to highwayman's topic in Amps and Cabs
If your budget will afford it, without question, the markbass 121 combo. Small, light, unbelievable tone scape and will serve you well fir small gigs too. If you ever need mire sound the additional 121 ext cab will give you 500w of everything you will ever need. These amps use the little mark 3 head and are simply outstanding value for money.
