I wasn't setting out to offend anyone, although I should have realised that I would have. Apologies to the Aberdonians. Things did improve in the later years.
Oh no i wasn't offended buddy, i genuinly found it hilarious ( the down side of written text i guess)

I have a boss me 50 b for sale ! Its built like a tank, in excellent condition , comes with power supply too.... Its great, even if for ore amp, tuner and compressor alone, add to that all the other effects with knobs rather than buttons end digital blippery... So very intuitive to use like pedals. The wah and filters are great, it does a kick drum loop for rehearsing, chrorus flanger delay, loads of overdrive sounds.. My fave, the octave up/down, fantastic Its in the effects for sale section ....

That's quite a hypocritical view....... To be fair, both covers/function bands and original material bands have some very good, some very bad and certainly some very ugly representation. Covers/ function bands of quality will find regular well paid work. Covers/function bands of less substance will struggle and likely pick up the bottom end of the pay spectrum. Original material bands will always struggle, firstly to find suitable venues, receptive audience and finally pay. Doing it for fun makes little difference on most counts.... There is an element of snobbery for sure, but usually by those who have very narrow misguided opinions. I've seen covers bands that have blown me away and ones that are just dreadful. I've seen original writers who are painfully poor and others that are just outstanding. S'all subjective I guess.....

A question to those who consider this to be their job..... A thread popped up a few weeks ago about "what constitutes being pro"..... Lots of different views there...ranging from ability to payment in general.... Not sure I agreed with a few but some interesting concepts... I guess "earning a living" is a loose concept for some as there is living hand to mouth for those who need little to get by and then there are those actively seeking commercial renumeration for services as a musician....profitable business that does more than just wash its face...an income comparable to your average "job" let's say for example £23k a year average..... I know when I used to play "professionally" ,it being my profession, my single source of income With turn turnover, overheads and profit, and sadley ....taxes! I was self employed and had to treat it in the same way a sole trading plumber or electrician would..... I'm not suggesting it's not the case for anyone here but I did wonder what "earning a living" looked like to others? My question is, assuming your income from playing is of an amount you could expect to live independently off, as per the example average income £23k p/a, if this is your "job" is your band registered as a business with you as an employee ? or are you registered individually as a sole trader, do you declare earnings and pay tax on your earnings? I did...had to..... To me, that's earning a living from it....... Just my view, others are available And yes...these days I have a less exciting job like most and play music for my own entertainment and joy.... It's much better this way as I play what I like, not what I'm paid to

How The Beatles still grip Liverpool ...
I haven't spent much time in Liverpool, but it must be very sad to live in a place that is so caught up in its past, or more accurately one aspect of its past.
Im from liverpool, born and bred.... I dont know anyone who is caught up in its past or more accuratley the beatles ??? I think this is the stereo typical perception that most people outside the area have... Add to that we're all theives with curly hair and tashes... Take a single element of historical notoriety, use that as your assciated (limited) knowledge of a place and conclude the locals obsess over one thing , simply because thats the expanse of your own knowledge ? Liverpool, capital of culture, filled with diversity, filled with history, the international hub and supply chain which indistrilised Britain. Yes, There is a commercial element to the beatles continuing popularity in liverpool, but you will find that supply is only ever met by demand. Its not too different from most other cities on the whole, each of which will likley have their own commercial market. Ask any kid round our way the best thing to come out of liverpool and they'll say steven Gerrard. Chances are theyve never heard the beatles..... Not looking for a response or trying to provoke anyone, just a veiw from the inside looking out. For the record, most of my fave beatles tracks if i played them to most scousers they would even know it was the beatles. Ja garu deva om, nothings gonna change my world. -

How The Beatles still grip Liverpool ...

Their diversity and continual evolution is what kept them contempory. They started as a rock n roll covers band and quickly progressed ,marketed as a boy band playing pop music, progressing on to the likes of peper, revolver, abbey road, tracks like helter skelter, i want you shes so heavy, blue jay way , mother natures son...all a millionmiles apart, all crafted works.... I suppose its important to look at what else was going on musically at the time as there was alot of equally great music, but not so many with such consitancy in quality and most influenced by the ground the beatles had laid down before them.... Not the be all and end all, not compulsory, but undeniably good... Rock n roll..... To start with, but so much more before the end..... Maybe im biased, my mum knew mcartney well growing up in the next street to him..... But ask her, she preferred the stones -
Im not one for big logos.... Think it comes with getting older. But i do like the odd t shirt with say... The ampeg or mesa logo ..as you say, an insider nod to your one true love ..... But No cheesey home made ebay kak with bass clefs or inuendos though.... Ive just ordered a sweet t shirt with the Norton motorcycle logo on... These type of tee's are great but they never seen to last long and sizing is always a roulette

Anyone got a 3/4 db gig bag they wish to sell ?
Wonky2 replied to Wonky2's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Happy jack, which one is it ? What colour..... I have chap in london who may assist -
"bottom end" ironically the furthest point from any g string.... "Less is more".... Stop feckin twiddling and put your thumb away. "In the shed"... Means I'm practicing, not I'm sat in an old deck chair surrounded by dried up half tins of gloss paint and a broken lawnmower, smoking Woodstock woodbines reading a 30 year old copy of sw***. "Holding down the low end" - no explanation .... It means your the only bass player. "im having trouble logging in" - please abuse me I'm an idiot.

As per title..... (I know there is a wanted section on the forum, but figured this best placed here) When i picked up my 3/4 bass it was in two peices so i never bithered to checke the gig bag it came with.... It somehow came with a 1/2 scale bag. Shame, its a really good quality, well oadded, plenty of handles and made of decent stuff.... The 3/4 bass does at a push squeeze into it but its a struggle. If anyone has a small size 3\4 bass it would probably do nicely for you.... Anyhoo, any ine got a decent quality 3/4 bag they wish to sell, pm me details before i buy another Wonky
